Being pulled too many ways

Post by NotHisRealName »

Sigh. I gotta vent.

I feel like I'm getting pulled too many ways at the moment. I've got some stuff I've been really keen to do for work (and that's a first for me - doing work at home). This is stuff that'll help me at work with organising extra stock we have stored in highrise - bulk pallets and stuff. At the moment, there's no system so things can get messy. Well I've got an idea to fix it.
But...
I've also promised my time to my sister and flatmate. I'm editing up 1 hour of footage to put on a cd to send to a friend in Canada. It's just footage from around the house and around Brisbane city. I don't mind doing it (in theory), but sitting in front of the computer listening to my sister and flatmate dribble on about this and that... and a really shitty taste in music that I've got to use, to boot! I'm loosing interest really quick and I've got to have it finished by the weekend.
However, I've also been in business with some friends. We're a production company - making promotional films, adverts, web design... that sort of thing. Well I got an email from one of the guys with an outline for a tv series he wants to produce. It's a guys show - kinda sexist - that he want's sto start making this comming weekend! I'll be out of town on the weekend, so I can't help out there... but he wants me to write up some scripts!
He's had a long time to do this, and he sends me an email last weekend with the outline. I send him a reply saying that I doubt we'd be able to pull it off, but here's what I think of the outline anyway. He calls me up yesterday and says that he loved my responce, could I please write some scripts up for use on the weekend, thankyou very much.

So I got 3 things on, plus I want to do some more editing. I've just finished possibly the best footbag vid I've ever made (sending it to the player for ok before posting it), and I want to keep going... but I've got so much on!

I'm honestly thinking about telling they guys in my business that I'm out. I quit. I don't really like the idea of the tv series, but then what's left in my life? This is a major opportunity here. We've got some big named sponsors interested and a $500K could be involved! This business is looking like it'll go somewhere... but I'm not sure if I really want to be a part of it.
Do I quit? What then? If the guys make it big, what'll I be left with? Will I hate myself for being so lazy and scared of the responsibility and comitment? Or will I feel happy that I didn't sell out?
I've wanted to persue a carreer in film, and maybe the business is the way, but... I kind of want to do it by myself.

But with all this work I've got to do - being pulled this way and that... all I want to do is say "Fuck you all! I'm playing Counterstrike!"

Sigh. I dunno.
Just needed to vent.
Sorry.
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.
