Terrain Traversing??? "Extreme" Freestyle???

Post by delakong »

http://www.footbag.org/gallery/show/4425

I just watched this video (awsome BTW) by gimbi and saw the tricks off of/down/up stuff. It blew my mind. I had never thought about that or doing stuff like that (not like I'm at that level anyway). I was just wondering how many other people do stuff like that.

I was thinking they should put stuff up in tournies for people do use in there routines or rippin runs. That kinda stuff would be awesome to see used in a rippin run. It is very skate like in the "extreme" sense.

For some reason I can't give you a direct link but go check out "like water 2" at http://www.freedomfootbags.com

Allan Haggett is easily the king of trials - nobody comes close. Yes - he's hardcore dude.

Ok, my 2 cents:

I think its really stupid. Its "cool" for about 5 minutes, then I couldn't care less about it. Why would you EVER even bother doing street?! One false move and BANG there goes your freestyle career.

How are you going to do this with friends, too? Someone who shall remain unnamed briefly had a stint with this, and when it was his turn in a circle, he would just walk off 20 feet to stairs so he could butterfly down it. Wow.

While its fuin to experiment, I think this is a bad way to do it. Why dont we put speed-bumps on race tracks to make it more exciting, so someone might get hurt more then they already do? How about patches on concrete dyed o look like ice on a hockey field?

Conclusion: its ridiculous.

I agree with about half of your post nick. That half being its crazy because you can get hurt really easily. But what i disagree with is that it is stupid. It looks really cool, and Allan Pushes the sport so much. He does moves not many can, but off of a picnic table/stairs/ledge/etc.

Henry's right.

You can get injured easily, but why does that make it not cool?

You can get injured easily in most sports, but that doesn't make them any less cool or fun to watch. When someone does a backflip on a dirt bike is that not cool to watch because he could accidently not make it all the way around and break his neck? No. That's part of the reason it is cool because you know what could happen if the person messed up.

I agree that there is a time to do "street" and a time not to. But it is still one of the most awesome things I've seen.

No, I don't play soccer. Yes, there are competitions. 4 years. Lots of practice.

I think it's pretty sweet sometimes. Other times I cringe cause it looks sooooo painful. In conclusion (to my short post): it's cool, but I'm not gonna try it. :)

EDIT: I just watched "Like Water 2" and HOLY CRAP. Seriously--- that's extreme if ever there was. It's so extreme, in fact, I think we could even call it X-treme (that's level 2, as you may have noticed). Doing Superflys and torques onto those itsy-bitsy steps?! 8O Maaaaaaan, that's insane.

perhaps you haven't noticed, but every single sport does this.

For example - racing. Ever watched dirt-track racing? Intense.

How about motorcycle racing? Is a long, flat track to boring for you? You can watch motorcross!

If you think motorcross is "stupid" and that everyone should play it safe you're going to miss out on most of the cheap thrills life provides, and you'll have to settle for the expensive ones. I for one am not ready to go down that path.

most of the time in the sport is spent solo. I occasionally play around with my surroundings, but I'm not really into it. I like to do stepping sets onto benches, but I'm not really into getting injured. I just had a year off, and don't really need another break.

In relation to what Jared said, I know a lot of people don't watch Nascar to see cars make left turns for 500 miles, they watch Nascar to see cars slam into each other at 150+ miles per hour (or they just don't watch Nascar).

It is cool. I love to watch it, but I'm over trying it.
I rolled my ankle after competiton at the 2003 Ausfootbag Champs, doing some stuff down a set of stairs.
I was out of the game for about 3 months.

That really sucked.

But it's the price you pay, I guess.

in my opinion:
it's cool because it pushes the envelope of conventional freestyle footbag. Sure there is the chance to get injured, but that chance lies with freestyle as well (even though at much lower odds). If you have your own style of play that differs from average freestyle footbag, go for it. BTW, trials are only done every oonce in awhile. It's not like these people are doing it every single time they get the bag whether they are alone or not. All in all, it's their choice.

Awesome! Thanks :) :)

Personally, I think it being called dangerous is ridiculous.

Do you play any other sports Mr. Laroche?

DANGEROUS 8O ???

Has anyone got hurt other than Gareth Williams??

I haven't. I got hurt doing Mullet!!! How stupid is that?

NAME=STREET OR TERRAIN OR TRIALS.

I call it Trials Hack.

I've practiced trials off and on for 3 years now and don't think it's very dangerous IF YOU WARM UP YOUR ANKLE ROLLS FIRST. Which I'm pretty sure Allan does.

I think Allan's Trials is the most impressive footbag thing ever done other than Peter Irish's 6 ball juggling.

Anything is dangerous if you go into it recklessly. If you train, are careful and do it wisely trails can be just as safe as anything else :)
