quadgun, thanks so much for putting that together, so good to look through and remember fondly!

What a great event, it was SO worth the hard work it took to get there.

I miss you guys already! :)

Does anyone know the difference between a Canadian city block and a Chicago city block?

If I remember correctly, a canadian city block is a bit smaller that a Chicago City block, and quite similar to a subyurban block. The difference in length might only be about 2-3 H&R Blocks though.

I know it's late, but I just wanted to add that I had a really great time at this event. It was really pretty much ideal -- a hotel connected to a huuuuge convention center with a massive space specifically designed for freestyle, with tons of passers-by, water, nearby restrooms, food, vending machines.

The Chicago crew made the event very welcoming -- Zeke, Reile, Tom, and others (sorry I can't list you all) made sure each night to arrange something for food for most of the folks hanging out in the hotel suite (and the last night, in the shred room). It was really nice to have someone worrying about all us visitors and making sure we were happy.

Scott and Valeria (with a lot of help from others) did a great job manning the booth, taking care of most of the "activity center" (or whatever it was called), handing out footbags, keeping things moving, setting up in the morning, etc., etc. Kolo was actually pleasant and enjoyable to be around :-) and set up to sell footbags which was definitely a service to the players. I learned that Kolo and I have very similar politics.

I was really happy to get a chance to teach Zeke some of the finer points of two-square. I think he took away some good lessons that will make me have to work that much harder next time. :-) It was also really fun battling many of the other inner circlers (and other outer circlers, if you can say that) throughout the three days.

As for me sponsoring the shred room -- it was really nothing ($100 a night is totally cheap for what we got out of it). I have to say, though, it worked out great. The room was perfect -- just big enough to fit us all very comfortably, but small enough to feel intimate. Well lit, comfortable, etc. (Though that carpet -- whew!) Just for the sake of those who weren't there, we were able to easily fit two four-square courts and still have three or four serious shred circles, and room for folks to sit and watch -- and plenty of room for Tom K. to sleep. (Gee, Tom, were we really that boring?)

Most interesting moments for me:

- When Tom Mosher came in to an almost-empty shred room when everyone was just starting to trickle in from the Chinese restaurant, and announced, "Hey, Everyone" in a sort of, well, classic Tom way. You had to be there.

- Playing crotch-fire in the suite with someone's shitty bag (nobody ever figured out whose it was) and watching the expression on little Henry's face when he realized he almost hit a cup full of beer which would've been a catastrophe.

- David Clavens, every moment he was shredding.

- When Jorden Moir and David Clavens got to the final stage of Dat's crazy combo game. Jorden's insanely good, did I mention?

- Beating Henry in two-square. Hell, beating everyone :-) in two-square.

- Beeing booed when I won four-square. :-) Am I really that despised?!?!

Yes. <3

Sounds like it was a great event, I'm sorry I missed it. I was actually considering going for about twenty minutes, too bad I didn't look further into it. There's always next year. :)

Thanks for the pics Kam. I like the ones with the focus and the footbag close up and peeps in the back. I'm gonna look at them again along with Johns. Jeremy! Where yos at?

Steve:
I've never experienced the br@tty persona I don't think. A bunch of people were surprised how nice Steve is. He is completely awesome. I found out @ CSS.

Anyway, despised 4 square wise? hmmm. I tend to hate on competition until I either become a friendly rival with my competition or accept that the person is truly better than me, and someone I can learn from.

I think that's a huge compliment for an event staff. You know you did well when people feel that way.

Nice pictures!

Whoops, I forgot to post on this thread how kickass the event was. I would describe it similar to last years, except bigger and better !!! Thanks to everyone who came out and kicked and a huge thanks to those who helped run the event and keep a roof over my head <3.

Wow...who's the guy that did the inside stall style dragon stall trick (real trick name?) in quadgun's shred pics? That is one sick pic!

I saw people saying nice things about me so I had to go and get a modified membership. Thanks Henry & Tom!

This was my first NYJ attending/participating in anything & it was a lot of fun. Especially the post-shred activities & hanging out. And for those of us in Chicago, who knew we were attending this, I think having the upcoming NYJ was a great excuse to find indoor spots to play & keep working at foursquare (one of these days, Steve Goldberg, one of these days...) So it turned out like a Chinese menu -- many happiness.
