Awesome music and pretty cute. too bad they're not into dudes

25x4 push ups per session as usual. Actual footbag lasts about 1.5 hr sometimes 1 or 2 hours.

14-19JAN2008
My goal was to hit 3 move repeatable (6 move) combos with pixies. I ended up changing it to just doing each side itself because it's better drilling. I started drilling pixie set out of other moves like merkon or diving mirage or gyro mirage a bit. I did warm up with fairies some of the days. And it paid off - i threw some in on sunday. (I like to think that I train monday-saturday and sunday is kick with people day.)

My other goal was to hit a new move, and I did: Gyro flail! The other side in only 2-3 attempts! I hit it a few times throughout the week.

I learned to slow down for diving mirage - it was always hitting my leg. pixie set out of eggbeater is fun.

I played with my last year fletcher bag and it was like melted butter. Played so well.

21-26JAN2008
Not much training this week. But some good shred, Pixie is coming along well. It sets so well now. And to think that I only needed to practice 2 weeks to make my game so much better.

I hit mantis in shoes! It was scary easy actually. Like slow motion again. When I hit it in my lviing room a few months ago with no shoes I felt like it had to be so precise. Now it just felt like ...easy.

I schooled last night and did a bunch of gyro illusions. That's a tasty move that can be thrown into strings. I schooled it for reversius (gyro flux). I think that move needs some time. I may be able to hit it, but should build up to it over he next 2 weeks or so and on the wayI'll pick up gyro illusion and flux.

I also tried Haze yesterday. I made sure my flip step set was focused on and the set was so perfect and well actually really high. I hazed that bitch and had time for crumpets. I decided to do a ripped warrior too since the set was so tits. and it's my flip side! Haze x2 BS. Gonna hit it today at Navy Pier.

Hitting Haze and gyro illusion made the sesh so fun. Not just drilling ya know. Oh and also this combo pixie ss illusion>atomic op legover>eggbeater was so fun cuz they're uncommon moves.

Went sledding with Kamil @ Wright college. It was so nice to not have to go to bumble fuck Evanston at night and meet up with everyone. Kamil hadn't been sledding in 12 years so this is a warm up. Can you believe he hasn't come to Mt. Trashmore? Trashmore is definitely better of course. Cuz regular sledding is only fun when ur a tiny kid (not that i ever did when i was a tiny kid cuz i live in chicago - flatty mcflatsville), but now I always have to make it better: be it with bails of hay or ramps or linked with others or super tall and steep hills. I need to get a cheap faux snowboard to use cuz that'll be fun. CIC we need to sled at trashmore this year. Be on alert for the next snow. :)

This weeks goals
10 3-move combos 5x BS
drill gyro illusion
gyro illusion in a combo
1 new move
hit toe flux a few times

challenges welcome

:)
Yesterday was a great sesh for me. I could string so long that I would stop from being tired rather than dropping. I attribute it to the drilling for the past 2-3 weeks. Solo drilling is so key. Much variety and new core tricks.

Playing on carpet with the sun shining through big windows and the lake and skyline in the background and all your homies around is way better than slightly slippery floor and low ceiling basement.

If I could kick like I did yesterday every time, footbag would be the most fun thing ever. I would play several times a day.

I was so in control and sticking every move. No frustration - only possibilities.

I wish I could continue to have sessions like this, and progress. The only thing that'd make it better is if I could show my original crew on a regular basis, and have them progress with me.

I'm really happy to have new dedicated freestyle partners, though. There was a time there when I was all alone like baby in snow.

One though I had about Nathan is how his style has transformed. He's gotten so much smoother than I anticipated. And I know his stepping and clipper game is gonna be the shat cuz it looks so natural already. props to nate for beating his whirl into good form in a short time. i know it stilll needs work to be consistent but the form is dope.

next week hope to see freddy. And maybe get some kudo and chris and twitch out there to have some good 4 square.

edit: pigbeater and eggbeater BTOS

I agree, your strings were great - super controlled and smooth - but honestly I think your strings are always roughly that good. But your spins and ducks were especially on. Anyway, I love sessions like that where you're like "this level of play is the new realm of possibility for me".

Thanks for the kind words on style. I feel the need to watch myself (but shake it fast... or not). Maybe I was dropping so many things yesterday because I'm changing how I do so many things... not that I'm dwelling, I just like to find explanations (and hopefully solutions) when something doesn't work correctly.

Maybe a session in your basement this week?

28JAN-02FEB 2008
Bad week for goals for this monday thru saturday and sunday too.
monday: schooled 1 combo
wednesday: went out to Brian's w/ Nathan to kick. Nice to kick with Brian. He's so recise and has way nice precise style, and difficult and cool links. If we lived closer we could kick mucho. Kicking with him pushes me to drill more (not as evidenced by this week's schooling).
Tues and thu-sun was no kicking at all.

This weeks goals are to complete last weeks goals.
It's not enough motivation to complete goals in and of themselves. I need more motivation. Just for the fun of it isn't really there, cuz I have to force myself to drill - even though I end up having fun when I'm doing it. I was surprised to read one of Ken's posts when he said kicking alone wasn't being fun. To me - I'm always down to kick with people. I wish I had that feeling of joy during kicking b4 starting. i think my schedule needs to change for that.

Hey y'all I have been away all week doing my sleep experiment thing. The 4th and 8th week is when we toss in the variables. This is the 4th. I will be back on Sunday. I am currently sick as hell though - aching body, cough, fever, headache (friggin prime week for it). Hopefully I'll be better in a few days.

I'm all healthy now, with the exception of a lasting tiny cough, which is how it usually works for me. And I want to get back into footbag training. Kicking with Zach was dope. And Reile is always a treat. I wish we all lived closer and had spots to kick at all the time. I wish I was as motivated to play every day as when I first learned mirage or when I first started hacking. I haven't lost motivation per se, but I never had it for solo drilling for long term, mostly in spurts. And there must be goals. I'm usually a poor goal setter, but when I do like just recently - I get shit done. Also competing or rivalry is always good motivation, Being able to have reile or tim or brian or zach or henry even once a week. I haven't played with Nate or Freddy in quite some time. March can't get here soon enough with the beginning of outdoor weather.

I watched the footbag clip on the montana freestyle jam site, and it is so dope. Mostly the filming and editing, but also the footbag. It makes footbag look so dope with all those sideways moving and following footbag shots. I guess that's Felix playing, though he kinda looked like Peter Bowler to me with that hat on. I wonder how Peter's leg/foot is doing.

Anyway kicked today. It's always weak trying to play well after not playing consistently. Confidence and motivation get lost. But I just reminded myself that only consistent practice will pay off.
I worked some spin strings. Zoom moves (clipper, mirage, pickup (first time), and butterfly (gyro-y)) All BS.
I randomly went for osis>barfly after doing a bunch of zooming (and thus osis-y) practice. It worked beautifully. Then some spinning ducking clippers 2x BS (thank you ricky moran footage). And 1 gyro whirl BS. And crispy osis - fun.

I sorta want to go to an event. Like MFJ or US open. I prolly will be busy for MFJ, and I'd def want some peeps to go with. Well see. And damn it we need to go to Noah's Ark this year again.

edit: i hit toe spinning osis from both sides, so one of them inspinning. This would be dope to throw in strings.

I drilled this combo yesterday: merkon>op osis>zooming mirage = SO FUN. Because you change direction each time. After a few times merkon gets consistent, and then I learned to slow down for the osis, because I was missing it a lot (friggin what a link to be the weak one in there). 5x bs and 10 flip eggbeater for flip mantis practice for race with reile - have you forgotten? :: one eyebrow raised ::
