US Open Registration
Chris, when can we register for the Open??

Registration should open in a week or two.
Larry, we weren't planning on including the shirts with registration but we may reconsider. It's expensive to rent a park in Portland (application fee, rental fee, noise permit, insurance, etc etc) hence the idea to sell the shirts separately and raise a little more money.
I know it's traditional to include them so I'll take another look at how much we can expect to bring in from the registration fees alone. This is starting to look like a very well attended event, and if everyone who is coming also registers in comp then we'll probably be okay.
BTW, the amount of prize money is the amount we have left over after paying for the park. Plus I'm donating to the pot.

Chris is donating pot? Well, it is a hacky sack tournament in Portland...
Seriously though, I would suggest asking that non-competitors throw in some money. Back when we ran the Cornell Jams, we set it up so that footbaggers who were competing had to pay less than footbaggers who entered the gym but weren't competing. This way, everybody helped support the tournament, and there was also an economic incentive to get people to compete.
I think asking $45 from competitors is reasonable (especially if there's a t-shirt), but it might be more fair to ask all attendees to throw in $5-10 to cover costs, and have competitors pay a slightly lower rate.
As a competitor, I also have to say that I don't care too much about cash prizes. It's USO, which is prestigious enough. That said, if there are cash prizes I vote in favor of a standard allocation where 1st place takes home 50-65% of the pot, with the rest being split between 2nd and third place. I know at last year's USO, 1st place in routines got $500, second place got $100, and third place got nothing.
Anyway, thanks for your hard work so far. Excited for this already!

Registration is now open! The announcement email from footbag.org is on its way.
One very important thing I'm going to repeat many times from now until a week before the event: YOU MUST PRE-REGEISTER BY AUGUST 18 IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE. There are a couple very good reasons for this, but the most important one is a records system that Steve has been working on which will be part of footbag.org for all future IFPA sanctioned events. If you are not registered by the closing date (August 18), there is no way to add you afterwards. I chose to have the closing date be one week before the tournament for a number of reasons which I won't bore you with here.
To repeat, you cannot simply show up to the event and expect to compete. You will be denied and you will bring a lifetime of shame to your family.
You do not need to pay the fee until the tournament itself, so there is no reason not to register right now. If you aren't absolutely sure you're competing then it's better to register now and forfeit later.

Also, this is explained in the announcement email, but the other reason to register is if you want a t-shirt. We are having the exact number made during the week leading up to the event, so you need to indicate your size on the registration page if you want one. You'll notice it says $20 for a non-competitor. This is the $10 participation fee plus $10 for the shirt... if you don't want a shirt don't register. Again, nobody needs to pay for anything until they get here.
Nick is working on the shirt design and he will be posting it as soon as it is ready.

I just registered...no women's division? I was hoping to defend my title as Women's National Champion! (Not sure who I'd be defending it from

It landed me a job instructing footbag classes and camps at the Y this fall (A Paid Position!).
Does anyone know if there will be a shred on Monday at the 'Water Temple?'

Sunny, rest assured we will be crowning a Women's National Champion! I've emailed Goldberg asking him to add a Women's category to the registration page. Sorry about that oversight. I'll let you know if/when the page changes so you can update your registration. But no matter what, you'll have a title to defend!
Our club is meeting soon to finish with the some important details, including deciding where we want to shred besides Colonel Summers Park. I've heard from a number of people that they want to kick at Water Temple, so I don't see why we wouldn't do that.

Chris, when do you want the music for our routine?

Re: --==2012 US OPEN==-- Official Thread
Anytime, but there's no rush. I won't be the one running the day-of tournament but if you're eager to submit your music then send it to me and I'll pass it along. My email is on the footbag.org page.

Sunny, women's registration is now online.
Steve added this: "Note: only offered if 3 or more women register; otherwise, women will need to choose whether they wish to compete in intermediate or open. This is important -- if fewer than 3 compete (usually it's 4, but I figure this is unlikely here) then the results are statistically insignificant and won't be good for our new ranking project. "
"
It's likely you will be the only female competitor. In that case, you'd still get the medal and bragging rights as national women's champ even if you're technically in open/intermediate

I may get Chrissy Fryer out here to play. Does anyone have a place for her to crash? I'm just telling her to show up and it should work out...

I made an effort to get Jane to play, but her daughter Amelie is competing in a gymnastics event that day...hopefully we'll see her Sunday! Does Shawnell still play? We really need to recruit some more female players in this country!!!
I'll happily play in the intermediate division, I really haven't played much lately and the way I see it, it's all for fun anyway!!

To me. All expenses have come out of pocket. I'll collect from people on Friday/Saturday of the event. Checks are fine, cash is easiest though.
