The world against Bush - impossible to find!
The world against Bush - impossible to find!
In Canada and the rest of the world, this is all over the news, but I could not find it anywhere on U.S. news websites. Ten major newspapers conducted scientific polls in ten different countries, and this is what they found:
direct to the poll results:
http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sondage_mondi ... ats_en.php
direct to the article:
http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sondage_mondi ... 816138.php
The numbers are striking. Just a little commentary, I'm sick of hearing people say/imply (including Bush) that it doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks because America decides what's best for America. Since the USA is the most internationally active superpower, the opinions of those in other countries whose lives are directly affected by America's actions actually matter very much. And what's more is that the way the rest of the world regards America is what determines the safety of America. I see a sharp division between prevention and protection, but Bush makes them seem one in the same. It's like eating hamburgers and smoking cigarettes: you know they will give you health problems, so you can either stop harming your body or just take pills and delay the onset of disease, while your actual condition worsens and weakens.
Enjoy, and share your thoughts.

I went straight to the results; I didnt read the article, and I have to say that although the reults are striking, the number of ungrammatical questions, misspellings and errors in the questions makes me question the validity of this poll. One would expect that if someone/something went through the effort to take a "worldwide" poll, they would at least make a site that accurately reflected the questions that were asked, no?
Im a bit skeptical, but overall, it was enlightening.

Here's a story about it from a "righty" website:

I don't know why these polls should be major U.S. news.
Foreign opinion should be translated by American voters this way:
"So who does France want us to have as President? Really?
Well then I better vote for the other guy."

Maybe hate is the wrong word.
People don't like to admit that they are jealous.
They want the power and wealth of America for themselves.
Real hate exists for sure, but when did we start appeasing the "haters" in order to be liked?
Should we accomodate those who hate Jews, blacks, fags, and women in power?
Or should we condemn their hatred and give them nothing?

Yes people [foreigners to be more precise] are jealous of the american superpower. No doubt about that. Yet I know that a lot of those jealous people would LOVE to see Bush elected for another term because he is making the US look like the equivalent of some dumb 13yr old AOLer on a message board.

Jealous?!
HA!
The only reason I wish my small country had your power was to stop you from from using it! The Ol' Precious US of A scare the hell out of me!
Wealth?!
HA!
To me the american nation seems poor - I would rather live without the material goods I have now than accept the norms and values USA stand for.

Nationalism is Anti-Humanity.
Property is Theft.
I'm not jealous about what the US stand for.
I'm not jealous about what the US "archieved".
I'm not jealous about what the US "own".
There is danger for you, it IS true that Bush only raises that danger.
But the source of danger ain't no fundamentalists; they are told almost the same shit like you are told and if they only think about what the US did to them and their neighbours, they have to see the danger coming from you.
The real problem is that hate-based nationalist and capitalist government you (or your people) are controlled by. It's not saddam and not a third world nation nuclear weapon program.

propaganda is written by the victorous.

Here's a few online polls, they're not very reliable, but they still give some kind of an idea.
The first one is made by a finnish marketing agency, they advertized it on the streets to gain publicity. The page is in finnish, but I'm sure you understand the result

And I'd like to say that I think this type of thinking displayed by america is why people hate america:

Exactly!
People hate the US because they think they are so good and know what is best for everybody else. No other country enforces it's beliefs on the rest of the world like the US do. The hypocricy is enourmas. The US is "The land of the Free" and yet they sponsor dictators, support right wing militias and drug lords and frankly don't give a fuck about democracy or freedom in any country. The constant lies that come from the US are nausating. "The war on Iraq is helping fight the war against Terrorism" - No there are no links between Saddam Huissain and any terrorist networks. There are terrorist attacks in Iraq now because that's the only way poor people who aren't pacifists can fight back against an invading force. I am sure that many people here would fight if their country was invaded. And as for "brining democracy to Iraq" - how about bringing democracy to your own country first. If the scandals from the last US election occured in Australia the election would be called off and a full investigation would be launched. - In the US you are FREE to cheat and lie and break the rules to win the election. You are FREE to fuck up any other country you want. You are FREE to exploit the third world and bribe them into supporting your position with "aid" - aid that doesn't actually help the nation to get out of it's poverty but makes them dependant on your aid so that you can keep them doing what you want.
The fact is that most countries understand this and hate the US government and their imperalism. In Australia I am sure that at least 80% of people feel the same way.
