Online Sick 3 competition
Online Sick 3 competition
I just had an idea, after watching Ian's sick 3 video:
What about an online sick 3 contest? Post a video of your best sick3,
and every week or so there'll be a contest - where the people of
modified can vote for their favourite combo.
What do you think?

great idea!
I think the best thing to do would be to have an open competition - so anybody can enter and the best combo wins!
We could also have an intermediate competition - and people who's combos are too good get flamed after every post until they quit footbag and never play again
Actually I'm not sure - we could just go on an honesty thing - so if you post your combo in the intermediate section thats where you get judged - regardless of if you should be in open or not. But then the next competition (did we say one a week?) you have to compete open - we could say anybody who does a really good combo in the intermediate comp (fearless level - not neccessarily fearless but that difficulty) goes up a level next time and anybody who wins intermediate twice in a row also goes up to open.
We don't want too many divisions or there will be too many winners and it will lose it's meaning.

Good suggestions. I like the duel idea, however it limits the input
of awesome sick3 videos
I think there should be 2 sections - intermediate and open, depending
on the level of play you're at. if you're already guiltless, don't dare to
compete in intermediate!
Let the combos roll!

I have a grandiose idea for how I think this should work in a 'head to head' format.. Hear me out.
First, I think it should be divided into three divisions, Novice, Intermediate and Open. 3 Divisions simply because people who are just starting and learning to link 2 adds should be allowed to compete as well and it would stop such occurences as someone who has been playing for 3 months posting butterfly > pdx mirage > Around the World and having no chance against someone else who does fall under intermediate but hits ripwalk > ripwalk > spinning butterfly. Anyway, just an example.
Anyway, here's how I think it should work ....
People assign themselves to whatever skill level they see fit, and stickied at the top of that forum there would be a list of all the people who are a part of that division and have video capabilities and are able to upload a video within a reasonable amount of time, as well, it would have IM contact info for everyone and whatnot.
Then, after there is a reasonable amount of people within each division, people could go to the "Sick 3 Challenge Forum" and begin to find people similar in skill to themselves who they can challenge to a Sick 3 competition. Once both players agree on the challenge they can also take as long or as little time as they need to come up with their sick 3 video. Once one combatant finishes his video he would send a PM to whoever the mod of this Sick 3 Challenge forum is that says simply (as an example):
"I have challenged Ryan Seath to a Sick 3 Challenge, my video is posted at http://shredvideoaddresshere.com"
Once the mod receives the second PM from the second partcipant in the battle (which should be closely followed by the first video sent in, the combatants should agree on an appx time length to get their video in), the mod will post the URL's for both videos in a STICKIED thread, and have a simple 2 option poll, asking which sick 3, based on creativity, trick difficulty and style is the best. The polls will run for a set amount of time (A week probably) and then once the polls are closed the thread will be locked, and the winner will be the one with the most votes.
This is why I believe that the mod should handle all the posting of polls and whatnot - It will keep things in the forum a lot cleaner and more organized, and make it so the people voting know how to easily find the threads with videos, and don't have to wade through a pile of senseless posts from other people to find where to vote. It would be cool if it could be simply made so only the mod could start topics in the forum, but others could reply, so people didn't just robotically vote, they could voice their opinion, ie. "I would have given it to Shredder A, but the dex on his pdx whirl looked a bit thing, so Shredder B gets my vote". Stuff like that.
Within a skill division, stats can be kept on Wins and Loss(person who has the most votes after a week of voting gets a win for the week and vice versa) and "points" can be used to break any ties in win loss record, a point simply being total number of votes for a persons sick 3. This will create a fun ladder system and give people some fun bragging rights as well as an idea of who to challenge next.
To avoid sandbagging as mentioned before it could be made a rule that if a competitor wins 5 straight matchups he must advance to the next level, or likewise if a competitor loses 5 straight matchups he must drop down a level. Or someone could be promoted if a lot of people agreed it was necessary.
I think it would also be ultra cool if people refrained from showing their opponents the videos and stuff before they were actually posted for voting. That would remove someone finding out that their counterpart hit whatever combo and therefore their initial sick 3 isn't good enough, and they spend time trying to hit something new. This would cut down on a lot of wasted time I think and keep things moving.
Other small rules would include people not being able to post the same combo twice. This would prevent someone from just hitting one huge sick 3 and riding it all the way to the top. It will also keep the number of fresh videos we can get to see up. On top of that, hopefully it will promote people just filming a whole lot of sick 3's throughout the course of the session and then just having them 'on reserve' to use against whomever they challenge or who challenges them. This would also add another cool element in that people who have a bunch of Sick 3's saved up would have to contemplate how huge their opponent is going to go and pick which of their sick 3's to use accordingly.
Also, we could also have a small rule that the combo has to be shown in real time and then in slow mo in the video, so people can better judge the cleanliness of the tricks. But that's more nitty gritty that can be worked out if people decide they like this idea.
Anyway, forum wise, what I think would work best would be 4 new forums. 1 for each division where the voting polls are placed, and one for people to find people challenge/talk generally about the format.
Sound like a good idea? Did I explain it clearly enough? I'd be glad to clear anything up.
Does it sound like a lot of work? Maybe, but I don't think it would be ... And I would be more than happy to take on the role of keeping everything organized and being the Mod of the forum if no one else was keen on doing it. In fact, even if someone did want to do it, I would still want to help/be a part of it - I love that type of organizational stuff
The idea could fall flat on its face, and if so, no real harm done. However, if done correctly, I have visions of greatness for this idea and it could really bring some new life to modified. I really hope people like it .. Please give me your thoughts, and bring up any questions you may have ...

That was the only line I read because the rest of it looked too intimidating, and the bright blue link caught my attention."I have challenged Ryan Seath to a Sick 3 Challenge, my video is posted at http://shredvideoaddresshere.com"
I just wanted to let you know that the link is broken.
Sounds like a plan. A large plan, but a plan that could work.
