rod laver model

Post by comastalker »

Last time, I had enough time to get into my animation prog messiah:animate
(use it to animate and do the rest in cinema4d r8xl) and felt really comfortable with its boning system,
so I planned on doing some quality stuff to give away as a portfolio.
I planned on making a footbagger (non-existant, maybe me with another head :) ) and animate him,
as shred motions are way harder to archieve than usual shit (the bendings at the thigh and knee are unique).
So, I made some reference photos of me and realized, that I first have to model some lavers for me.
At first, I wanted to do them low-poly and let the textures do the rest, but then I had that images in my head
of matrix like zoomed-in closeups of a foot dexing a bag :
I have to do them detailed !
And so I grabbed my laver and started modeling (the image shows a work-in-progress image;
I still have to model the inside stuff to give it some thickness.
the textures are provisoral, just to distinguish between the different parts
(it's all one model); I still have to texture it really).

(btw, it was really fun to lace them up :D)

c&c are welcome, but remember this is a part of a pair of shoes for an entire footbagger, so I think I won't do it a lot more detailed :

oh, forgot, I'll for sure texture them dirty.
dirt always improves realism

That's very, very cool.

I wonder if you could take it so far as to make an interactive lacing program that reflected changes in the shoe's body as a result of changes? Interesting thought...

Wow that looks awesome. All you need is some dirt and a nice texture
of the mesh and the photo-realism is there. Did you measure the whole
shoe out and modeled it after them?

I'm currently modeling the rest of the shoe.
(@nagasake: I'll write more about your "vision" soon, but that'll need more time :)).

I took the measures of the sole and modeled it using them.
Then I made some spline curves sketching the most important parts of the shoe to see if it doesn't look right (well, I was lucky it looked right...) and then I modeled the rest "eye-measured" (dunno if that expression exists in english)

I definitely got too much time since I cannot shred due to my fucked up knee - this case in negative meaning

the modeling took exactly one day (not 24h, but the amount of time you'd spent on a work, if you plan to work the whole day)

Very interesting lacing technique, too.
I usually skip the bottom eyelet.

I had to look twice at that first image, just to be sure it wasn't real. Very cool. Can't wait for an update.

EDIT:Is there any update on how the project is coming along? How far along are you?
Comment in the BCS blog if you feel the need to.
