i dont remember who started the battles, it might have been sam, not sure. but what you do is make a video and edit it the sickest way possible. then both videos are posted and people vote on witch video they think was the sickest. and you cant really judge on the tricks they hit, its about the editing. and im pretty sure that there was a 2 minute limit.

i battled sam, that was fun. i lost, of course, but id love a rematch. i would battle him again but my camera is trashed. :(. o well. id love for people to start battling agian, theyre fun to watch.

A lot of the info about the battles, you've prolly read from your other thread. http://modified.ca/footbag/viewtopic.php?t=8654

Pretty much, one editor would challenge another editor for an epic battle of editing. They wouldn't use the same footage to see who could make a better edited vid out of the same content, you work with what you have. So if you shred by yourself, and you edit footage, well, goodluck filming interesting stuff by yourself !

IN SHORT, TOM MOSHER, YOu wanna battle ?!? I'll give some outlines for our footage, see how you like it. Pick one shredder to film and edit. Length of film will be 3 minutes. Finished video clip will be turned in 2 weeks from now. You in ?

EDIT : I mentioned this before, we should keep a list of people that are willing to be filmed, and edit. That way we could keep the challenges going and keeping things fresh for months to come.

Myself (Footbagger/Editor) & Brad (Footbagger/Editor) are both in, ok, I'm just speaking for brad. BRAD if you don't want in, just post to this. You all know he's in

Yah! I'd love to battle!

what did you mean by "I'll give some outlines for our footage, see how you like it." ?

I will keep editing the top post with the list of names of interested people for now.

I was just meaning some rules we'd follow for filming and editing. Anything you want to add to it or change , just tell me.

Sorry it took so long -- when I first posted I was having trouble uploading. They seem to be working fine, now. I am still uploading 2 as I write this. There should be 5 videos, in total, in this folder (including that elusive clip of Kenny Schults busting anonymous (I think -- I think it was posted as BAS, but was mislabeled and was actually Anonymous? I can't tell the difference between the two, but I know lots of people are always asking to see video of these tricks...)

old battle videos
http://www.hackrifice.com/shred/modified/

The first two videos were by me. I battled Sam Colclough once. His video beat mine (and can be found here: http://www.footbag.org/media/213/reality2004.wmv ), the next two were Ashley Danowski and Sam, again, battling each other. There were some other battles, too, but I couldn't find them all, because they didn't have "battle" in the filename and I have lots of videos they could be amongst. The battles were SICK and were more about EDITING than the actual shred. I find it hard to stay up-to-date in the online comp forum because there is just SO much STUFF, but I remember seeing Joe battle James (I think?) and James was editing Jim Penske, while Joe edited himself. Jim is more experienced (I hate to say "better") than Joe, yet this should have ABSOLUTELY NO affect on the basis in which the videos are voted for (am I making sense...it's late here.....)

EDIT: weren't you one of the original battlers, John? Maybe it was Brad...confusing. I remember a SICK video, of John, to that Rza song from Kill Bill!!!! There weren't MANY battles. Maybe 4 sets? I think it was Me VS. Sam, Ashley VS. Sam, Me VS. someone... and Brad/John VS. someone...

I thought I would make another, less cluttered, post just to say that the battle videos were 100% about editing -- the shred doesn't matter.

-I remember a rule Sam put down for one of our battles was that the video has to be EXACTLY 2 minutes. I didn't know that he meant EXACTLY 2 minutes when he first proposed it, and mine was 2:11. I should have been disqualified.
-A general rule is that you have to film your footage AFTER your battle declaration, or acceptance. You can't use previously filmed footage.
-You can make up any rules, like, "you have 2 hours to film", or, "you have to use at least 3 freestylers in your video", or, "you can ONLY use tripod footage", or, "you need to have at least 10 flyers throughout the video". Both parties have to agree on all the rules set down.

is it a viable idea that both parties started with the same raw footage, just to be positive the actual shredding didnt influence the opinion of viewers?? maybe not necessary, i dunno

That could be a good rule. I think that was part of the original idea, too. I think that would make it a LOT easier to judge which editing style you like better. It would be a lot less excited to see half as much shred, though :p If you battle, you can propose that rule :)

I've thought about that , but raw footage, well, are the biggest files out there, if left uncompressed. The file sizes couldn't be transferred via internet, and then also the length of raw footage would be really long, because when you edit, you might start with 20 minutes - 2 hours of footage. Also, like chan said, everyone likes seeing 2 fresh vids, and so do I.

Edit ::fairness can only go so far. EX. - different programs used to edit, different footage, different time spent on it, different shredders, etc., etc. I like it how it is, as long as the battle has their rules set up pretty well and it's mutual. I'm looking forward to seeing what Mosher has in store for me tomorrow :)

Erik Chaaaaan, why isn't your name on the list ? Your vids are the best ! What about Andrew Grant ?? Or Derek V. as a shredder in the videos...or...tons of other players and editors, that list is way too small. COME ON PEOPLE, LETS MAKE VIDEOS ! :P

what about team video battles? one person finds/records good footage, another person searches through libraries of music to find the perfect song, a third person edits? or some variation thereof? it would have to be a lot more long-term...like with a couple months of time before the final showing, but it would have to be an incredible product.

The only thing that matters is there will be 2 more quality videos(unless more commit) out after we're done. My editing fingers are gettin itchy, so just step up.
