I got the 512, and it hold 9 hours of music. I figured it would be enough, but I already wonder if I should have gotten the bigger one.

Yea I know. I saw it there. But I decided against it. I mean, a gig would have been enough for me.

BTW, when I use the iPod as an external HD, will it work with the plug and play on a different pc, or will I have to install the software onto the pc's I want to use it on. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I try it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

mine just shows up as a HD on the desktop of whatever machine I plug it into. I think there was an option I had to turn on somewhere that made it automount as a HD.

an ipod shuffle is $100 and can hold 240 songs
an ipod mini can hold 1 500 and is $199

do you see the difference?

you pay 100 more dollars and get 1260 more songs
with an ipod mini you can build on ur song collection over the years b/c 1, 500 songs is a lot, but if you get a shuffle you will eventually be making sacrafices for your favorite songs that you might still like.

ipod shuffle = waste of money
ipod mini = good times!

besides with an ipod shuffle there is NO SCREEN so what if you have a song stuck in ur head and you really want to hear it? you'll have to shuffle threw all ur songs to hear it.

and if you spend 300 you'll be able to hold 5 000 songs

And it is the shit. I can load all kinds of videos on it and watch them on the bus, at home, wherever. I recomend it.

I said it was the shit, not cheap :D . It was sorta a response to Craigs post, and a brag about how cool my new toy is. It's nice now when people say, "Footbag? is that like Hacky Sack?" I can just reach in my pocket and show them a video of Lon Smith laying down the law.

But the shuffle is like crazy small. Just righ tfoir footbag. You put it on your hat or head band and you are set.

The mini is to heavy for that.

I don't think you are taking into considerations all the trade offs. If you read the first post in this thread you'll see that Cameron was interested in getting an iPod shuffle so he could easily wear it on his head while he played footbag. In this respect the more compact shuffle works better.

I also think it's capacity is fine too if you're going to use it while you play footbag. I doubt you could possibly play long enough to exhaust all the songs that fit on an iPod shuffle.

For Cameron the shuffle does what he needs, and does it for just 1/2-1/3 the money. In this case the larger, more expensive mp3 players would be a waste of money.

Everyone who is saying the ipod shuffle is way crappier than the ipod has no idea how crippled the ipod is.

Apple has made a habit of creating really powerful technologies and then crippling them so you can't use them the way to want to. You have to use third party hacks just to get your mp3s back off your ipod, and i'm pretty sure you can't load anything but mp3s onto it, unless you have an ipod photo. With a 40gb harddrive they could have made a powerful ipodOS to let you move anything you wanted around, but they didn't. instead they charge you a whole bunch then fuck you.

Ya'll should buy the iRiver. You can put any file type you want onto it, and even watch movies on it. It's like the ipod, but less shitty.

At least on windows it's really easy to get mp3s off the ipod, and it doesn't require any software, you just have to tell your browser to show hidden files... Also, it plays a lot more formats then just mp3's, I forget them all but I know it at least plays audible format books, mp4's (this is a file right?), and apples format. If you were talking about just putting files on it, but not neccesarily playing them on it then it doesn't stop you from loading whatever you want on it, the computer views it as a hard drive.
