Are you joking, or have you never actually talked to him or read his posts? If you knew him at all you wouldn't make that assumption.comastalker wrote:well I'm sure you take drugs too

You should ask what drugs are. Maybe you now get my point

at I would have said it this way....
I though second that and add footbag (or sports at all).
Base Jumping, Love, Computer Games.... take it like you want... these are drugs too. It's just the sublimated(sp?) way of getting high.
In fact, the humans own morphines are really heavy drugs.

Could you explain what you are trying to say when you use the word "sublimated" since I know that is not the word you're looking for and cannot think of any similar sounding / looking words that you might be thinking of?comastalker wrote:It's just the sublimated(sp?) way of getting high.
Do you see any difference between, for example, playing sports and smoking pot as recreational activities? How about between spending time truly interacting with people instead of getting wasted (indeed)?comastalker wrote:Base Jumping, Love, Computer Games.... take it like you want... these are drugs too. . . . How many people have done things they regret while intoxicated that they wouldn't have done otherwise? Why?
How many people suffer from addiction? Why?
How many people can't go out to a bar with friends and not drink?
How many people use recreational drugs to escape life?
I feel that using recreational drugs for happiness / fun is a shallow replacement for life. I don't think I've seen one situation where it has made things better, but I've seen more than my fair share of incidents where it has definitely made things worse. As you've pointed out, there are definitely more constructive alternatives.

Well, that's really hard. In psychology, defined by Freud, there are several ways to deal with the conflict between society/mother (defines "Über-Ich") and tendency/instinct ("Es"). For example take the anal phase :wolfpac444 wrote:Could you explain what you are trying to say when you use the word "sublimated" since I know that is not the word you're looking for and cannot think of any similar sounding / looking words that you might be thinking of?comastalker wrote:It's just the sublimated(sp?) way of getting high.
Children like to play with their rectal organs and what they produce this way. It's a way to deal with aggression and love ("libido"/"destrudo"); the big two factors of "Es". But there's one problem :
Mom doesn't like it's child to play with shit. So one way to get around this problem is what I translated (maybe the wrong way) "sublimating" which in fact could mean :
Child smudges Colors and mixes them and so on in an extra space. It creates something the society (in this early situation completely represented by mom) respects and it lives its "destrudo".
So to "sublimate" means to deal with instinct/tendencies in a way that is socially respected and/or wanted.
So regarding the first question :wolfpac444 wrote:Do you see any difference between, for example, playing sports and smoking pot as recreational activities? How about between spending time truly interacting with people instead of getting wasted (indeed)?comastalker wrote:Base Jumping, Love, Computer Games.... take it like you want... these are drugs too. . . . 1. Not really except for the part of self-destruction, but that's up to everyone (footbag can also easily be self-destroying)
2. Smoking pot doesn't necessarily mean not to interact with others. In fact I only know one out of around 70-80 peoples who also smoke pot alone at all. Most drugs are and shall be consumed together with others.
For some specific drugs you should also have someone sober you can trust to guide you through possible paranoia (well I never took more than pot and one time mushrooms myself).
Well I always say it this way :
If you forget how to have fun (that is getting high) without drugs, you are maybe doing something wrong ("maybe" because there's no right or "wrong"). If you bring other people in danger (for example alcohol while driving) you're doing something really asocial and most people (including me) would consider that "wrong".
So to sum it up: There's nothing inherently wrong with drugs; it's the man that kills, not the gun. If you know how to use them and you know how not to use them it's OK. And my original intention was to stop you from calling drug users "weak minds" [indirect quote]. In fact I think (though I don't know you) there are many of them that have stronger minds than you. There's nothing wrong with controlled hedonism.
Well, at least for some drugs you could also turn that around :wolfpac444 wrote: How many people have done things they regret while intoxicated that they wouldn't have done otherwise? Why?
"How many people have done things they regret while sober that they wouldn't have done otherwise? Why?"
A lot of aggression could have disappeared. Well it's not OK to say drugs may make you do/not do better things but there are (especially considering aggression) "weak minds" that make positive use (regarding the society) of drugs; e.g. to deal with aggression or stress. Remember that these factors both depend on each others and that smoking pot reduces stress by forcing the body to reduce colchicine amount.
How many people that now love each other for decades started while being drunken in a bar ? It's also possible to do it without alcohol, but it's harder for the majority.
Drugs are a tool, not a way.
And then there's the mentioned Love analogy...
A lot people here suffer from being addicted to sending SMS (or mobile phones in general). That's no joke ! They land on the streets. And here's my original point on what drugs are. Taking drugs doesn't need a weak mind; getting easily addicted doeswolfpac444 wrote: How many people suffer from addiction? Why?
How many can't go without looking for a fuck ?wolfpac444 wrote: How many people can't go out to a bar with friends and not drink?
You see we are getting away from the drug but near the way people deal with them (e.g. love/sex). There a billions different people and by this billions different ways of dealing with drugs/stimulation/instinct
Well I have to say I sometimes use footbag for that.wolfpac444 wrote: How many people use recreational drugs to escape life?
Doing 10 stringed symp moves makes it really hard to stay agressed or depressed. Footbagging is my "sublimation". Maybe that now gets clearer.
I know how to deal with such emotions the 'usual' way without 'tools' like footbag/drugs; but there's no sense not to use footbag if I keep knowing how to do it the hard way.
Again there's a need to define: What is escaping life ? When/how does it start ?
Well I know a lot of situations where drugs have made things better in an easy way. Drugs are a tool, not a way.wolfpac444 wrote: I feel that using recreational drugs for happiness / fun is a shallow replacement for life. Btw. : Except for drinking a beer at the weekends I don't take the drugs usually defined as such. I have my own drugs e.g. love and (love for) footbag.

Gee, this was a philosophical outburst, i didn't feel like reading all of it, so i'll just post my opinion on drugs, so here it goes. I did my share of pot, and other things(was young&stupid) and by drugs i mean drugs, not love or SMS.
There are some very young people on this forum who could get the wrong idea, that drugs are a part of footbag. As i understand it the majority of players wants people to start thinking of footbag as a serious sport, and not a hippy thing potheads do to make the day go away. So at least for the image of footbag, drugs should have nothing to do here, there are other places to dicuss things like that.
I hate it when some idiot comes to me and says something like: "wooh, hackysack, nice, got/need some weed?"
