Maybe your game is self serving, but mine isn't :) And I'm not alone so you'd better get used to it. Only time and evolution will decide what happens in the long run, but we'll be vocal about it while it still has a chance to matter.

Everyone self-serves when they play solo. Don't be condescending, Damon. That is not the issue.

Rule #3 is actually really cool because it means the hack circle is a place where beginners don't have to feel bad for not being "good." In the freestyle circle, you generally only say sorry when you give someone a bad pass. By the way, when I get a bad pass, I usually go for it, because *it's fun to make saves*. I love saves!!!
AllanHaggett wrote:Ellis isn't trying to tell you how to play. He's just saying he thinks it's bad form to catch a perfectly reasonable pass and then self-serve yourself. There's nothing wrong with that. I applaud it because I agree. He's an experienced player who has been playing long enough to see trends come and go and sees things that concern him. Like anyone else here, Ellis is trying to improve the vibe in the community the only way he truly can in a wide spread sense - using this tool we call a forum.
Well said. Thank you.

You make me laugh out loud.

Evolution What, are you Darwin now?

In time we will all die of old age, or from bickering. Whichever.

hahaha - You said long run.

Then what is bro? Really? We practice alone. We get the bag in a circle and we hog it til it drops. Sounds like selfishness to me.

You must play in space where the bag floats constantly and never drops. I gotta get a shred spot like that.
By the way, when I get a bad pass, I usually go for it, because *it's fun to make saves*. I love saves!!!
Selfish bastard  ! You're suppose to catch it and self-serve  .

Yep! And I'm laughing my ass off at the attempt. Heart's in the right place, I'll give him that. But please don't tell me how you would prefer I start EACH and EVERY run.

To quote a wise self-propogating freestyler:

"Only time and evolution will decide what happens in the long run, but I'll be vocal about it while it still has a chance to matter."

In my own words:

"I spit disgrace in the face of the oppressor. Blast back with verses to shatter the existance of your political banter. Object to your stereotypical player. Peal away the lies layer by layer. Feed your rotting corpse to the dragon slayer. Produce a recall on the mayor of footbag town. Laugh as I beat his ass down like a clown. It'll be a matter for the judge and jury. Hope they hurry the conviction before the flurry. You can kick my pass if you wanna. I'll laugh from the comfort of my sauna. Roll a spliff and smoke some marijuana. Just chill homies - its not even a recognized sport. So think first before you support your retort. I'm good at sorting out shit. This thread is definately full of it. I'll kick alone next to the curb. You can join in if you got the nerve. In San Diego, we bitches self serve. Its apparent by the skill produced, self-service has enhanced the juice. Not slowed it like a dragging caboose. Best to hang yourself, I'll supply the noose. Or get cut by the blades, when my tongue gets loose."

I have a story with a player in the cirlce. I will keep his name anonymous. But we shred as every cirlce should. We pass the bag around in one direction and we get the bag and allow like two to three drops. But then it gets around to this single guy (anonymous). He will catch the bag! Self serve to kicks (alright). Then stall bust out one move and catch. Self serve again, then attempt another move, this would go on for like ages at leats six serves 8 at the most. He also never claps to a person who hits a awesome combo that is lower or even sometimes at a higher level then me. Sometimes when others clap he just makes jokes about how low or not good it is. Its really a matter of respect I think. Other things like footbag knowlegde, its kind of hard to take. Like when he names a move same side drifter and when people try and correct him with tips and stuff he sticks to his thoughts. Sometimes its okay to take, but I find it hard to play with someone who constantly catchs the bag, and completely stops the flow of the cirlce.

By the way, its not Tobias

A good way to think about the original topic of this conversation--and to realize it's absurdity-- is to simply imagine it in the context of a simple hack circle. Gee, that would be fun....everyone catches the pass coming to them and throws it back up and kicks it to the next person.

Ellis is not trying to throw down "rules", he's bringing up a phenomenon that anyone who has pushed themselves as hard as he has has a right to be offended by. That shit is weak. If you cant kick a hand toss from someone else in the circle, yet you are trying 4 and 5 add moves, you may want to consider going back and working on your basics.
Not only that, it's just sloppy. It looks bad. But hey, if that's how you want to play, enjoy.

Learn to kick. It's not very hard. There are plenty of other sports where catching passes with your hands is what you're supposed to do. This isn't one of them.

It doesn't upset me to see it, but it's goofy. This is footbag.

Realise that footbags ancestory; the flying disc and the yoyo are both used by hands.

Hands are a gift from God. Don't neglect them, imagine if you were in a car accident and lost them.
I freely use every part of my body. Even my ears! Which can be quite fun he-he 'cause I have quite protuding ears so I can stall the bag inbetween, kind of like a taco and the footbag is the filling.

well you say it's FOOTbag well what about your knees? It's not Kneebag
Ok so you might say "Well only hippys like Peter Irish use their knees."
That might be true, but I still think Pete is ok and doing well for a guy in his 40s.

Anyway, I think it's really upto who ever owns the footbag what the rules are. If Ellis is going to throw a little hissy fit every time so be it.

remember play for PEACE!

Peace out!

"troll
n.
A supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore, variously portrayed as a friendly or mischievous dwarf or as a giant, that lives in caves, in the hills, or under bridges."

To me they sound like quite nice creatures

who are you? and where did you get your information? footbag didnt come from the frisbee (im not opening the wham-o and hacky sack can of worms so can it) or the yo-yo, in my honest opinion, the closest thing to footbag that ive seen is takraw, which is closer to hack circles than anything else.

if you arent a mod, then mods, how about enforcing the "real name in signature" thing? because some of this bullshit is so deep i need my hip boots, and The crab!? you've got to be joking

We are trying to enforce the rules but it's hard - what can we do? Ban everybody who don't have their names displayed? I've sent Si_is_high a message. After that I can't really do much about it. It's kind of tough because if you do more you get flamed, and if you don't do more you get flamed.

All I can say is I'm pretty sure Si is from New Zealand.

edit: lol oh my god it's Simon Hughes!!

I personnaly don't like the two-shot rule in pool. But if the local pub rules say so, that's how it is.

In my opinion, self-serving is bad and catching a bag in hand isn't bad. In Football they also use hands sometimes and noone tells it's something wrong.
