got a sec for some weirdness?

Post by mc »

hey, I posted these two little vids in my blog, but I'm so vain that I can't even let 2 little tricks pass by without making a big hooplah about it ;) so I hope someone digs them. Just a couple little tricks from my injured legs...

rev swirling rooted mirage

swirling rooting mirage

the root on the second trick occurs xbd, before the second dex. the first trick, I also hit on my flip. Haven't tried much for the flip on the second trick.

I am not familiar with those tricks (never heard of rooting), but I found out when I tried to follow what you were doing in slow-mo that it looks funny when you grab the "how far along the video is" cursor and go back and forth. You look like you are dancing weird.

So the first trick is just a clipper stall > op toe stall?

:? No... not at all.
If you watch it slowly, you'll see that he sets from the clipper, then the foot that set the bag rotates around the bag from front to back and then he dexes with the other leg (so the bag goes under his left leg) and he catches it on the right toe while the right toe is on the ground. If you notice, the left leg doesn't go back on the ground when he delays the bag-- which makes it a LOT harder (that's rooted: catching the bag on the foot that you use to support yourself).

Also, the entire above description can be determined by the name 'reverse swirling rooted mirage' if you learn the meaning of each of those concepts. Footbag.org has some resources related to this (and jobs' notation, which is very important as well) at http://www.footbag.org/freestyle/
Otherwise, this thread describes sets and move components by their jobs' notation.

At first, it is hard to see what's going on in a footbag video, but as you learn the moves and watch more videos, you'll eventually be able to follow them.

hahah, i read fallen's post, and I thought, I wish someone else will just explain this for me, then I read down, and you did. Thanks Zach.

These moves definitely felt awesome to hit. I love it when i think something up, and then a few minutes later I do it. footbag is full of weird shit. I also did swirling same xbd pinch the other days. new tricks are cool!

Finally, someone else who does rooted tricks. I do a lot of rooted illusions and mirages. Never swirled or rev. swirled before any of them, only pixie, stepping, and ducking. Major Props! :D

I looked at that other thread explaining rooting, and I am still not catching the concept. :?:

Rooting is also called anti-symp, right? We all know what symp mirage is to keep it simple. So from Zach's explanation, I am assuming rooting mirage is kinda like symp mirage, except that you catch the bag with the foot you just got done dexing it with? After you've landed?

a rooted delay is where you catch the bag with the foot that's on the ground, instead of the foot that's off the ground.

a rooted set is where you set the bag with the foot that's on the ground, instead of the one that's in the air.

Ahh! I should've put some thought into what the word itself meant! <slap to the head> I get it now. Thanks.

Cool tricks, but you know what would be even cooler? If you shaved a Big "S" into that triangle patch of fur on your chest.
