I like to find a concrete bench with a sharp corner. Then I place the crochet bag on the corner, and grind it around with my foot. It breaks them in pretty fast.
And lawn, how durable are your grandpa's bags? I have been looking for a bag that will hold up to the antics of circle kicking, but that will also work decently for basic stalls. My current crochet bag's material is stiff, and doesn't allow the bag to set well. I have been thinking about getting a Dirtbag for this purpose.
I guy I know hit his with a sledgehammer then ran over it in a car. Crochet is definately the way for a circle kick, especially if your playing uber hack or extreme hack, in which case a sandbag will get mangled. Playing uber hack it took about 5 kicks before the bag broke, so go crochet.
