I gave my opinion on this subject of the effects of hallucinagens, which was a tangent of the current topic. I know that the effects of hallucinagens are not exaggerated by the government. I've already commented on why I think 'drug dealing' should be illegal, but I think Scott put out the best point. There is no way to legistlate it, and lawsuits would be in abundance if it were legal.
In closing, the question proposed lacks context. Drug Dealing already is legal ie. bars and pharmacies. If you mean street-level dealing, the above argument applies.

There is a difference between knowledge and belief. Everyone is entitled to belief. Knowledge you must strive for. A closed mind doesn't lead to a closed case. If we don't question those in power, what stops them from telling us whatever they want? I love the Reefer Madness reference, which shows that times change and what is official "knowledge" one day is scare-mongering the next.shredzilla wrote: I believe that the effects of hallucinogens are not exaggerated by the government.
Back to topic:
I guess I have a different perspective on drug dealing than all the Americans on this forum. The Canadian police really don't try very hard to enforce drug laws, so I really couldn't care less whether its legal or not.

I said 'believe' because frankly I haven't heard this overwhelming propaganda by the government talking about the effects of hallucinagens. I 'know' what the effects are first hand, and from my own personal research.Slowsis wrote:There is a difference between knowledge and belief.shredzilla wrote: I believe that the effects of hallucinogens are not exaggerated by the government.

TO me it depends what drugs.
Weed is already on its way to being legalized (medical Marijuana), and that drug actually isnt so bad. Its things like cocain and crack that have got me worried. Isnt coke supposed to be able to kill after 1st use? I dunno. Maybe weed should be legal, but only throught distributors, not drug dealers.

No, coke wont kill you first time... NORMALLY. It's possible to die off coke any time you use it, just depends on the dose.
I agree coke is a very scary and dangerous drug, but it's a question of whether prohibition is working on stopping people from doing the drug. I think, considering the failure of a drug "war" (All abstract wars America has ever embarked on have been massive failures, keep that in mind), that we'd be better off trying legalization (For most if not all drugs). With the financial trouble this country is in, we can't keep pushing billions into trying to stop something that goes inherently with a Capitalist economic system. Of course people are going to look for alternate "meanings" to life when they realize how foundationless consumerism is, which is what this country is pushing. Not even to mention how in a free market their should be an open exchange of goods, between supplier and consumer. I don't know why a true capitalist would want the government telling them what they can and cannot buy with their money.

Enough of this " alcohol can be worse than weed so weed should be legal" Bullshit. Thats like saying Mass murder is worse than rape, so rape is now legal. or Grand theft auto is worse than shoplifting, so shoplifting should be legal.
They tried making alcohol illegal, remember? People died. Lots of people.
That logic has no basis, and shouldnt be a ligitamite argument.

These two paragraphs seem is direct opposistion to eachother. In the second, you're saying prohibition didn't work for alchohol, and in the first you're saying weed should be legal.Enough of this " alcohol can be worse than weed so weed should be legal" Bullshit. Also, you should look in to the definition of a strawman argument, because that's what you tried to pull in the first paragraph. Very deceptive tactic to use in an argument, and also one that is a total fallacy.
I'm sorry, but you post gets a D.

lol. When did I say that? Notice I said WATER can do it too, I was pointing out the irrelevance of his statement. Neither of us were even talking about weed in the first place.Hakker wrote:Enough of this " alcohol can be worse than weed so weed should be legal" Bullshit. All drugs. And not specifically you, more people have said that.
And saying water can do it is even worse. If you think about it, anything can kill you (i.e-cars) but what I mean is that that cant be an argument for drugs (weed was just an example) being legal.

Why can't it be an example? People are putting themselves at risk when they drive cars, just like they're putting themselves at risk when they smoke weed. I think you need to explain why it can't be used as an argument against drugs, because until then you're just throwing stuff against the wall. And saying water can do it is even worse. I simply don't think that it's the governments posistion to step in and tell me what I can and cannot do with my body. If I want to do tweak, then I should be allowed to do tweak. If I want to drink, I should be allowed to drink. If I want to smoke weed, I out to have the right to light up for christssake. Trying to say that some drugs should be legal and others not is silly. Either all drugs should be banned, or all drugs should be legal. Alchohol is one of the most dangerous drugs (Dangerous for the public, as remember, I think what you do with your body is your business) out there.
Any time the government is telling you what to do with your body (Drugs/Abortion/Seatbelts), you ought to be worried. Governments controlling it's citizens bodies are the signs of a government gone bad.
the only reason why all these illegal drugs are illegal is because the government can't make as much money from them.
Perfect example, oxycodine is synthetic heroine, basically the same thing as it, yet it is legal because it is a "perscription" drug....the government only wants drugs they can profit off of to be legal.
