I've been having some trouble with my footbags, they die too quickly. Right now, I'm using very heavy, very big zinc plated BBs, plastic hacky sack pellets (a bit lumpy and pokey, maybe they're the problem) and scraps of facile to make my filler.

I want to avoid using lead (although I love how it plays), so I guess I want tiny little steel shot. Also, I bought some different plastic hacky sack pellets, the softer, smaller, rounder ones, so I'm hoping those will be a little less abbrasive. I believe I'll also continue to add scraps of facile for soft squishiness in the filler, plus other soft filler elements inspired by some ideas my friends had...

Anyone have thoughts on filler (either what I've suggested, or their own)?

Anyone know where I can order a good kind of steel shot online?

Jake and I have recently switched to using plastic seed beads, they seem to work really well so far.. they're about the same size as .8 shot and a bit heavier than poly pellets. You could also try getting "doll beads" from a craft store [michael's], those have never given any trouble.

here are my ideas, i think that the hacky-ack pellets should be switched out to a less abrasive filelr, maybe like the ones seen in abshire bags, that i think can be obtained at michael's, also seed beads are my preferential type of filler instead of plastic bigger pellets, and the ones im using now dont seem to break apart, also as a suggestion, i think that steel shot is too light for my taste, because i like heavy, dense fillers, so why not provide lead shot primarily, and if your customer would prefer another kind, simply use steel shot? i think that the footbag's preformance comes first, and i like the variation of fillers that sitchers use...

im still working out my filler, but for now im liking lead shot, facile bits, and maybe alittle plastic pellets (not hack beads) and i might try knotted hemp (not a string, but just a knot)

Hmmmm, when I looked at the filler in Zebs bag there were 3 types of filler I think and there was one that was chipping and falling apart and causeing sharp things to float around in the bag

Where did you pick up steel shot? Just a local sporting goods store? gun store?

I don't think I should just use lead. It's poisonous, and I don't want to handle it directly or give it to people for them to handle.

Steel is preferable.

Its 345 pellets to the ounce for #7.5 lead, and its 460 pellets to the ounce of #7 steel shot. So lead is around 30% heavier, I think brass would work well too but I dont know if they make pellets of brass.

Hey man, I was just fucking around. I pick it up at an ammo store 15 minutes from my house. I thought I was being fairly fucking generous when I said I would hook up anyone who needed it.

Thanks for clearing that up, now, back to the topic... does anyone here have any experience with both lead shot and steel shot? I haven't used lead, but I've used steel (they're just too big currently) and I didn't have to fill the bag up too much to get it up to the right weight. I think the steel could work out just fine.

I have experience with both. They're both great fills. The lead's obviously softer, and there's the common theory that it coats the bag as well as the plastic beads you're using. Steel seems to do a similar thing, but not nearly as much. I'm only using steel because of people's lead-phobia, otherwise I probably would've stuck with lead.

www.ballisticproducts.com is another site, and I think their stuff is a tad cheaper.

grits works fine without grinding them up... so does rice... you can't get them wet though... you also have to add some bb's or shot for some weight...

Use sand if you want a finer filler. You wouldnt have to worry about it turning into anything if you get it wet.
