speaking of fasting.
BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Saddam Hussein ended a brief hunger strike after missing just one meal in his U.S.-run prison, a U.S. military spokesman said on Friday.

Will 1 day of fasting have any significant effects?

Really interesting topic. What I've been doing at times is just drinking more water than normal for days. This most likely isn't as benificial as fasting at the same time by judging from the thread - but probably benificial none the less.

I try to drink a lot of water always. I went through a period earlier this year where I drank loads, I just carried a water bottle around and drank out of it all the time. Peed a lot. Probably cleansed me out a bit. I should do that again, I've gotten out of the habit.

90 day fasts? I thought the human body couldn't sustain without food for more than a month, whereas without water is around a week. :?

Today I tried preparing for my fast for Sunday to Tuesday. I didn't eat the whole morning, and only drank a Superfood health drink (it was similar to Naked Juices' Green Machine) around 11 in the afternoon. Then it was just a footlong Subway full of veggies with turkey and cheese that I ate in moderation late in the afternoon, and a small bowl of rice with vegetarian sides for dinner. I think by Saturday if I keep this routine but with smaller meals and a health drink, along with water, I can start my fast.

Anyways, though, thanks for the advice David. I'm going to tough it out and do this solo, and will try my best. :P

Answering my own post:

Fasting technically commences within the first twelve to twenty-four hours of the fast. A fast does not chemically begin until the carbohydrate stores in the body begin to be used as an energy source. The fast will continue as long as fat and carbohydrate stores are used for energy, as opposed to protein stores. Once protein stores begin to be depleted for energy (resulting in loss of muscle mass) a person is technically starving.

So how is everyone that is fasting with me feeling today? I'm looking forward to my juice meal tonight, haha. And some fruits and vegetables tomorrow. I haven't felt too hungry but the absence of taste is definitely getting to me.

My day one is over. I've got two days to go. It should go pretty easily since I'm doing a water & juice fast. :)

my science teacher says it goes in "the rule of threes for average people"

3 minutes without oxygen
3 days without water
3 weeks without food

in that case you should be fine :)

Who the fuck can hold their breath for three minutes? I'm an average person and I definitely can't.

I just tried and got to 51 seconds.

You could go 3 min without oxygen and not die, even though you can't hold your breath that long

yeah its for the average person. But after a couple of minutes you would go uncontious and then start breathing regularly again unless you were underwater or somethin like that. Of course there are people who train for these types of things and go way longer but for the average person this is about normal.
