Oh and I like how you don't have a poll option for non-players
How popular is 4 square?
Plain, with everything.
I only like 4 square whenever I see Steve go all out. I don't like playing because I have to act a bit "sneaky" just to win. The joy factor is there, but I can think of a lot of other things that can make me burst out laughing.
And it is a great warmdown game to do, and a very good recruiting tool. However, why there are clubs only dedicated to the game of four square, I don't understand. Don't people find it gratifying to "level up" in their freestyle, or hit a very cool and nasty string? Do four square clubs put a lot of effort into the freestyle component of footbag as well? I think those questions need to be answered.
And I also found it funny that there wasn't poll option for not liking 4 square.
(You can't change the poll if the topic has already been replied to).

No, no... I guess I wasn't very clear in my last post. What I really wanted to ask is if the focus for freestyle for clubs that frequent playing 4-square is there. Like, which activity takes more time in club meetings, freestyle circles or 4-square?
The reason I ask is because of Ken Somolino's comment on his club's progression (in his blog), that he was glad that there is more potential dedication to the freestyle component of the club than 4-square. 4-square is a perfectly laidback and fun game, I'm definitely sure, but I really wanted your thoughts on which focus is much more in, say, CIC or other clubs that play a lot of 4-square.

i used to shred in my friends backyard while my friends would chill in the CA sun and smoke bowls or cigarettes or whatever and talk... eventually i noticed there were 4 big concrete squares that made up his backyard and i introduced 4square.. now they fuckin love it and have since taken it upon themselves to learn a couple basic stalls just so they can throw people off.
i thought it was pretty cool that it appealed to teh whole group. i like to throw a mini 3 trick string and then pass it real low cause most of the time they are too busy watching what im doing to notice im gonna pass
but all in all, it became a drinking game with them as well and they would tell me about how they'd play it when i was away or whatever!! im glad they still play even without me there now that im far away
it makes me feel happy.
i miss them

I think that the players that got into freestyle first still have that as their first priority. But there are shredders here that love to play squares too. There are also quite a few players here that play squares exclusively, mainly the kids from Lane Tech HS. It's hard to say what takes more time at sessions because it differs so much from jam to jam, all depending on the turnout. We just play what we feel like playing.Wasabi wrote:... but I really wanted your thoughts on which focus is much more in, say, CIC or other clubs that play a lot of 4-square.
Several years ago it was pretty much all shred with squares played maybe once or twice a month. Now you see both shred and 4-square at all the major sessions we have. So it's definately gained more popularity here.

you turncoat
This is the main reason why I switched over. Even if I turned around and practiced my ass off to be the best freestyler I could be it still wouldn't be nearly as fun as as having my sides hurt from loud howling laughter round after round in a losing game of 4S.ShredOnLawn wrote:I laugh more during 4 Square than other types of footbag playing.

Why? What if I think it is doing a disservice to my idea of the greater good of footbag? The Actual Sized E wrote:If you don't have fun playing 4square that's fine, but don't act like it's doing a disservice to the greater good of footbag.

I think if any of you 4-square geeks went back and played the *real* 4-square--just once--you would never come back.
popular? no.
big grippy bouncy ball > footbag.
However, I should add that footbag 2-square is awesome. I would take that over both kinds of 4-square any day.

2 of our square geeks got into a game of OG 4-square with some little kids at the park we play at -- they got completely pwn3d by the 3rd graders! I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself.sb wrote:I think if any of you 4-square geeks went back and played the *real* 4-square--just once--you would never come back.

What was the old 4 square about?
Personally, i dont really enjoy 4 square that much, i feel like it doesnt have the same flow as a freestyle circle and i dont feel like im achieving anything when i play.
Aaah who am i kidding, i dont play cos i suck and im no good at arguing bad shots or making tricky kicks
