Just got home from Kickass.

It was just that.

Got myself a Wasabi and a Mosher to start off my 32 collection, I'm fucking pumped. The circle competition was intense, and I'm sure the Sick 1 and 3, which should be going on as I write this will be just as badass.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT CAME!!!!!!!

KICKASS2 was a complete success!

I really hope that everyone had an awesome time, I sure as heck did!

Here are the results: (we only did circle)

Intermediate:
1) Ben Roscoe ($20, Matt Cross bag, Kolosport hoodie)
2) Dan Cyr (shirt, sonic footfighter)
3) Josh Lackey (shirt, freedom)

Open:
1) David Clavens ($50, Felix Zenger bag, kolo hoodie)
2) Flash Gordon (Pengpeng bag, kolo shirt)
3) Matt Cross (or was it Willie? someone sort me out please)

There were a number of people filming all weekend long so I really look forward to seeing what gets made!!

Again, I can't thank everyone enough for being so easy-going and cooperative and understanding. It's ALOT of work to make a tournie happen, and to have one go off as smoothly as this did is really rewarding. I totally feel like this was way more than worth my effort and I am glad so many people came out!

I hope lots of people write really long and detailed blog posts about the event so I have stuff to read about it and so I can see it through other peoples' eyes!

Oh yeah, and sorry once more for the 'ruggedness' of the indoor spot.. it worked out in the end! Thanks for being so understanding!!!

YAY!!!!!! footbag! :D :D

I am spent! I feel like I havn't stopped moving in weeks, it's time to go crawl into bed and fall asleep with Pengpeng.

Night, all. :)

Thanks Tom. :D

I like the term "rugged"......all those who didn't attend will have to wait for the video to get a glimpse of this strange shred spot.

Yup KICKASS was pretty sweet, had a great time. Didn't get to play half as much as I wanted to, but competed well in the first round of circle comp. It was Matt who took 3rd for open circle Tom, just barely over Will. Too tired for a long post right now, but thanks Tom and Peng for throwing a great bash. Hope to see everyone at Cornell.

If KICKASS happened in a forest, and no one was around to hear it, what would it sound like?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsKpLBEWXAg

I am Mike Anello. Yes, thee Mike Anello.

I had an incredible time at KICKASS. Before I get into it I just want to thank Tom and Peng for making this event happen, Matt Cross for being such a great entertainer, footbag player, and supplier of great party favors, Nick LaRoche for being "so hot" and such a great person to hang out with (I wish we lived closer together), Camille Surovy for being so cool and hanging out with a bunch of drunk guys and laughing at my jokes, Aric McIntosh for being so crazy and throwing himself on the ground, the chairs, the bed, and around the room and for making everyone laugh with "pancake hair" and "pinch hair", Josiah Digges for hanging out Saturday night with me and for being such a good older brother to Will, Will Digges for saying "Can I try that?" out loud at the bar and for tossing ice cubes at Juice and for being such a riot on the way to Tom's place Saturday night, Pascal and his friend (whose name I do not remember) for being such great roommates and for being understanding of my drunken state and staying up late Saturday night and partying with the "get down girl, don't hate, get down" crew. Saturday night was rediculous and I will never ever forget it.

Now on to some single moments of extreme awesomeness...

I finally, after many, many years, got to meet Erik Chan in person. He is as cool, if not more cool, in person than I ever imagined. I was so bummed about his legs for him but he managed to bust out quite a bit considering. He filmed a lot, and I mean a lot, during the tournament so I am looking forward to some Erik Chan videos. Of course, if he only filmed for his own personal collection, that is cool too. He captured me doing my Golddigger impression and I'm happy about that.

Scott Bevier and David Clavens were so much fun to watch. I am sad that I did not get to hang out with them personally but I did get to watch them shred a lot. What I like about Scott is that he has been shredding for a long time and yet he keeps his style fresh and continues to bust new stuff, and big stuff, every time I see him. David Clavens is of course incredible. He shreds with such focus, consistency, and most of all is non-stop. It is certainly commendable for anyone to string a few good moves together. But, when you can hit several huge combos all in one string like Clavens can, you are something special. I try to keep up on move names and such, but David hit more moves that I didn't know than moves I did. Both of these gentlemen are unbelievable, and if you get a chance to go to an event they are attending, do it.

What else... oh yeah, Saturday night. What can I say but, "A guy walks into a bar and says to the bartender..."

First off, Juice night club was great. At around 9:30 PM the place was dead and footbaggers started pouring in. At around 10 the whole place was ours.

The food was pretty good, and the fact that four of us got two pitchers of beer, a plate of nachos, a plate of fries, and a plate of some cheese and bacon bits bruschetta all for only $26.00 was just amazing. To top it off we all got a piece of cheese-cake with chocolate and caramel topping for free (I love food).

The circle competition finals were held right in the first floor, where anyone walking down the street could see people busting huge. I saw so many pedestrians walk in, and stay in, because people were shredding it up so huge. The crowd interaction with the players was amazing and at times the cheers were deafening.

After the circle competitions, Nick LaRoche asked the first floor DJ to play one of his CDs, and he did. The music was bumpin. I believe it was at this point in the night when the whole Golddigger thing started happening. I am going to have to wait to hear from LaRoche to confirm this one.

Anyway, I don't remember the exact order of events that lead to closing time, but there were times I was down stairs chillin out with Josiah Digges, his brother Will and some others, and other times when I was up stairs dancing around like a fool. At one point I did the windmill for someone – was that you Erik Chan?

Just before our time at Juice was over I went to the first floor bar to hang out with the Digges brothers and some others. The one guy behind the bar was trying to toss ice cubes into the cleavage of the woman bartender. I leaned towards Will Digges and whispered, "I wish someone would yell out, 'Can I try that?'" No sooner did I take my next breath did Will scream out, "Can I try that?!" So, the guy behind the bar placed a handful of ice cubes on the bar and everyone took turns trying to make a cleavage shot. The woman bartender loved all of the attention she was getting. This was good clean fun ladies and gentlemen.

Eventually, everyone started packing things up to leave. We all left, some of us more reluctant to leave than others, right Will? Does anyone remember the whole "Everyone crowd around him!" incident? How about the staggering piggy-back ride I gave to Will? Man, you are heavy when you want to be.

Somehow, I was fortunate enough to end up spending the rest of Saturday night with Camille, Nick LaRoche, Aric McIntosh, Josiah Digges, and that other guy – sorry to forget your name. (Sarcastically spoken) It sure was a nice walk from Juice nightclub back to Rest Inn (2.4 km to be exact) [mapquest edited out because it was messing with the page formatting] . Oh, did I mention it was IN THE RAIN? We did call a cab but for some reason it came, picked up this couple across the street, then drove off. We were in such a bad way that it took us about one hour to realize what had happened. Then it took us forever to finally decide to walk to Rest Inn instead of call for another cab.

Back at the hotel was amazing. We tried partying outside to let Pascal and his friend sleep, but we were much too loud. Pascal and his friend could not sleep through our nonsense and the rest of the hotel would not have liked it if we stayed outside. So, we moved the party inside. It wasn't long before we got the call from the front desk telling us that there had been complaints about noise coming from our end of the hotel. Take my advice, you should pick up the phone and put it to your ear BEFORE you say, "hello." However, it is much funnier to say hello first, then pick up the phone.

I have to wrap this up now or I will ramble on forever. Let me just say a few words in closing...

To Camille, a.k.a pancake hair, a.k.a pinch hair... It was really, really nice to meet you. Peace out girl, don't hate, peace out.

To Nick LaRoche, "Coo Yoo Bee Baw! Caw Zaminee!" I want your music. Sell me your music. You say it's not ready, but I'm ready for it anyway. Keep shredding, or at least keep coming to footbag events so I can see you again. Sorry that thing at Juice didn't work out for you, but you still got to spoon in room 218.

To everyone else, I had a wonderful time, an unforgettable time. Thank you all.

I'll also say that I have 7.5 hours of footage, half of which is non-stop sickness. I was standing between, like, 3 ridiculous shred circles for hours on end, capturing some of the most stupid shred on the planet. I will try to briefly recap some highlights and I will also cut and paste this paragraph to the top of the post so that people can skip my banter and get straight to the good stuff right off the bat (I guess, probably, mostly a bunch of crazy stuff Dave hit...?:

-Whirlwind swirl
-a huge 40-something contact run IN competition, with multiple fearless links, ending on big apple
-another 40-something contact run in competition with even more fearless, some 6s, and food processor > fog midrun
-janiwalker > alpine blurry whirl, by Will Digges
-like, 6 or 7 fearless by Will
-like, 4 6s in a row, I think in competition, by Dave...
-nemesis beesauce a couple times
-nemesis by Matt Cross (missed filming by just a hair!)
-9 tombstones by Dave
-9 ripped warriors by Dave
-10 fearless by Dave (may have done more too, but I remember a 10 combo)
-something ridiculous like sumo > pigbeater > dod swirl, by Flash (more ridiculous than that, I think, though)
-lots of sweet combos, like, sumo > atomic ducking whirl (Flash)
-flurry > symp whirl beesauce (Flash), and the same but bedwetters instead of flurry
-some huge trick by Ianek (will have to watch later). I wish I had more footage of Ianek and Tom :(
-pixie same dlo > smog > pixie same dlo > pixie paradon midstring, by Will (perhaps even in competition?...no, I think just during the break between rounds...)
-sick shred by Dave no matter what (even in baggy pants...)
-lots of good Matt Cross too, but I forget specifics. I didn't get much of Nick Laroche, sadly, either.
EDIT: -I think Scott may have hit barfly swirl beesauce midstring?

I want to thank everybody at KICKASS for making the best weekend of my life. I never imagined that a footbag tournament could be so amazing without even playing footbag!! This was honestly THE best 3 days of my life, I'm sure.

I can't even understand how nice you guys bloody are! Freaking everybody was the nicest person in the world! It's given that Tom and Peng are the best. I think that letting, like, over 10 guys stay at your place and mess everything up and inconvenience you to the utmost is unbelieveable; you two are sick. I was talking to someone about how crazy it is that, like, one single person practically can influence so many amazing people and shredders to come to a teeny little town to throw down; it's not hard to understand, at all, when you consider what these guys are all about.

One person who's been really sticking out to me as, like, 150% friendly is Ianek from Montreal. I didn't even talk much with him, but I just remember him coming up to me and being so friendly and really down to earth and everything; this, and his locomotion-beesauce-and-whacky-reverse-swirling-moves-all-over-the-place shred perfectly complimented each other. He also hit the second ever motion sickness that I have ever seen in my life (the first being Brad Nelson, after I posted somewhere that I'd never seen the move and him having to send me a video).

I felt so sad on the last day, leaving everybody. Footbag tournaments are so bittersweet. Part of me really wants to be able to play again just so that I can go to lots of tournaments and see all of my friends.

Meeting Dave Clavens was like a dream; it was so surreal. It doesn't seem like it could have actually happened -- like when I go to watch all of the footage I took that it just won't exist. I couldn't believe how nice he was to me, and how he kept wanting to talk to me; I completely didn't feel worthy of that. It's silly, but Dave is one of the best footbag players in the whole world and that's bloody huge! He gave me what was possibly one of the biggest compliments imaginable and that will stick with me forever. I'll also never be able to forget watching him play. I asked him on camera if he could hit nemesis beesauce; he did first try. And then again.

Speaking of compliments, I know that I officially live in Toronto now and I can see her all the time, but I don't know if anyone has ever said so many nice things about me as Camille did this weekend. Camille is the sweetest! She is so ridiculously humbling (I think that's the word I mean?) Hanging out with Camille is always the greatest pleasure.

I got to see Matt Cross again. Like most people, Matt has to be my favourite person to have ever met through footbag. Matt is just an amazing person. I can't even pinpoint anything without writing forever, it's just always an honour to spend time with him. His "That's the way I get High" (or whatever) to end his set on Friday was a highlight that I wish I had got on tape (I turned off the camera as he started the song...); it would have been much better, too, if I smoked. He also agreed to record an entire set just for my camera just for Marita (which resulted in tears -- the happy kind) and signed a CD for me! I keep feeling like I am forgetting something to write about, but there is a lot that I could. Matt's shred is always top notch, too. In competition he hit his ass stall, and in the same run food processor beesauce, and blurry whirl beesauce. In finals he also hit ass stall beesauce. Oh, lots of great stuff -- I got something like phasing stepping butterfly on tape, as well as barfly gyro dragon (or something???).

Matt's done an amazing job at bulking up the RFA; these guys are SICK! And they are allll so bloody modest and sweet. Paul A. is the master of the neo set (I think he said his record for alternating neo guays is, like, 30-something?). Paul is so nice. His family lives right around the corner from me in Toronto, so I can't wait to see him again soon. I just got goosebumps remembering how much fun I had with Paul.

Aric has got to be the most modest; he pretends like he's nothing special, while meanwhile he busts frantic legover midshuffle, midrun, in competition, while injured... It's boggles the mind.

Chris Dean/Christine is another of the great RFA crew; so friendly. I could say a lot about everybody, but I feel like I should stop writing so much about particular people because I will feel bad when I forget somebody when I have written multiple paragraphs on others... my bad in advance. Chris Dean was holding his own in a circle with Scott Bevier, Will Digges, And Dave Clavens, busting non-stop 5s, and one combo I loved, blurry drifter > 69 (or something similar).

I can't forget Mike Anello, either. I'd been waiting so long to meet Mike, after talking on AIM all the time, years ago. I didn't talk much with Mike either, which is sad, but I enjoyed just being in the same room as him many times. And shredding! I played in a circle with Mike, which was another amazing experience.

I had a rad drive with the FAT crew up to Kingston, thanks to Joshua Lackey and his girlfriend, who were super nice, and so crucial to making this event possible at all for me (and the rest of us...). So many thanks for driving me and offering to drive Marita too, and reserving us seats! Also huge thanks to Dan Cyr for driving us home, and also Adam for telling me how to get home on the subway.

It was unreal to meet Scott Bevier and watch him shred in person. Nick Laroche too!

It was REALLY REALLY good to see Taishi for a second time before he so-so sadly left for Japan (though not until tomorrow I guess).

Great to meet Ben Roscoe, especially after missing him in Winnipeg, like, a month before.

I also really enjoyed talking to Lewis (or is it Luis?) from New York (and Texas); Lewis was another of the really-friendlys that stood out whom I loved meeting at KICKASS.

Umm, gee, I was going to say lots more, especially since I left out lots of people, probably lots of memorable times too. I could say so much about Tom and Peng. Oh yeah, Aaron (I think?) from Rochester, who didn't play footbag, but who was the official photographer of the event ( www.sgart.org !); I spent lots of time talking with him too which was a real pleasure. We talked about everything. I also had a great really long talk with Pengpeng Du about art and stuff. I can't wait to check out comics with her when she comes to Toronto. Umm. Wow, a huge thanks to everybody who sang happy birthday to Tom and I; that was so breathtaking. Also a huge thanks to KFM for the birthday cuddle bag and KICKASS pin!

That's all that I'll write.

EDIT2: I feel bad for not really writing anything about Tom, but I think it might be best to just say that I can't even put it into words how great he is. Oh, and while I'm adding more I should say that the guys who took care of the drunken Pat Talon and Will Digges were really awesome.

EDIT3: Oh yeah, meeting Ryan Seath was also really really cool finally!

(sorry for bad punctuation; was really stream of conscience)

wow this entire event was just so cool, i have nothing to really to compare it to, but it was really amazing! the first night i got to meet all the people that i knew from modified, the first person i shred with was paul who was really nice. meeting tom a peng for the first time was really cool too, tom is such a hilarious guy, and peng was really nice and sweet. I met so many people i couldnt really keep track of them all but in the end i pretty much knew most of the people. im pretty sure on friday night i played four square and was in circles with a load of people, i got a sweet rainbow bag from matt cross and an awesome looking peng bag, which had three flowers of a blur pattern, but she screwed up and made it all white and it looks sweet. matt cross was really the only person i had imed before, and he was such a cool guy to meet, everyone there was so nice! then we went to toms house at night and matt cross played a et, after that i went to play four square in his house (on a carpet! :) ) and it was cool to get know everybody, everybody was just so cool!

on saturday we went to the same place as friday and i shred with lackey skippy mike and seath maybe? i dont really know but i hung out with them mainly then the circle competition started and I really blew but i did hit my second pixie ss rev whirl in the circle and that was really cool. i didnt get past the first round but i was having such i a good time i didnt really care that much! then we shred a shitload more and i got a kickass shirt and i had a great time ( not to forget shredding with skippy and his all black footfighter!.) now this is really awesome peng had some backup clima 3s and they fit me! she said she would even mod them for me! you're awesome peng! she did the insiddes and the harder stuff, and i spent a while takign the mesh of the toe and stuff like that, i havent played with them that much but the toe is so sweet, but they kinda take away from my crank (but then again i hit parkwalk second try in jeans and really sore, so we'll see haha) but overall there pretty much awesome. Then we went to the juice night club and the finals of the circle was there, and it was just soo sick! then we shred for a while and i shred with waylons (who showed me some stittching tips and was really awesome) extramini and ben roscoes(also awesome!) hania mini, and i loved them both! (definitely gonna get some soon). Then ben and i hung out in seaths/skippys/lackeys room for like thirty mins and then we had to go back up.

sunday was really chill i shred in possibly my favorite circle for the whole trip which was clavens jake, taishi and waylon and it just felt really nice. i was really sore but almost hit smudge (this week i swear!) and got some tips from clavens who was just really nice. then we had to leave and it was sad but also awesome.

see you guys in ithica! :)

(sorry for bad punctuation was really stream of conscience)

new tricks hit
parkwalk
pixie same rev whirl
pixie dada
fairy beater
some other stuff i cant remember..

I'm so glad everyone had such a good time. I really enjoyed the weekend and being able to see those I've met before again, and some of you, for the first time. Footbag tournaments are what the best because footbag people are the best. Thanks everyone for coming!

I'm glad my life is back the way it is though. It's time for me to catch up on sleep.

BTW, we have here:
Matt Cross's blanket
Marc Giard's Lavers

Please contact us and arrange something to get them back.

I'm missing:
A red Roots hoodie. It's actually Tom's. Rob, did I lend it to you?

WOOOOOW What a fun weekend. I'm finally just now getting a chance to sit on my comp and right about it. And even then I should be getting ready for school.

But yeah, this weekend pretty much had me speechless. There was so much wicked shred that I can't even think of, and I met so many awesome awesome people. Most importantly for me, competing was quite possibly the best rush I've ever felt ever. I really wasn't expecting to get past the semifinals, let alone to attain the runner-up spot. Props to Ben Roscoe for shredding it hard into first, and also props to Josh Lackey and Camille Surovy. I didn't get a chance to look at the judging scores or anything, but I'm sure all of us, as well as the crowd could tell that it was so close the whole time. That made it so exciting for everyone I think. I mean, even though nobody in intermediate hit any fearless links, we still got the crowd pretty pumped for the finals, and I think everybody had some surprises. The circle comp is such an awesome competition format...I don't think I'll ever go back to shred 30.

I think it's pretty obvious that all the people in attendance at KICKASS2 were awesome people. Waylon for his professional sandwich snatching, Erik Chan for 'KIC', Ben Roscoe for keeping it real, Dave Clavens for being a footbag superhero, Nick Laroche for Pete's Place, Matt Cross for still being the coolest dude in existence (also for shaving), and tiger balm for saving everybodys ass at some point or another. :P I think that's basically all I'm gonna put in here for now. I'll go more into detail in my blog, as I hope everybody does. WOoooooOoOooO!!! FOOTBAG. Can't wait till the next tourney. I hope to be at Cornell, but if not then I'll see you all soon I hope!

Last, but definitely not least, thank you Tom and Peng. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. Not only have you both helped me out so much with footbag, but your also both some of the best friends I've ever had!!! Thanks SOOOOOOO much for throwing this tournament, if it weren't for you I'd still be a clueless circle kicker!!! You were both so dedicated to being awesome hosts, and I think you achieved Ultimate Host status. Props for being so goddamned awesome. I will see you soon. Guaranteed.
