This is the biggest rip off that they have come out with since the ipod nano. Are you kidding me. Just get a cell phone and an mp3 player and you could still probably save money. 8 gigs, that is horrible. You can buy an ipod video with 30 gig for $250 and you still have another $250 to spend on a phone. People are pretty stupid like that. I remember as soon as the nano came out there were kids who ditched there old ipods and got it immediately. Cell phones are overrated. Useful for calling, but now ppl just live on them. If it works then who cares, and if you need to get something with features then there will be a muchhhhh more cost effective and probably better way. People get caught up in the hype and buy this useless trash. (end rant)

I don't think its that much of a rip off. Seeing as their are many smartphones out there that have similar features, minus the hard drive, and still cost close to what the iPhone is projected to cost.

One of my managers just payed $400.00 for the new Samsung Blackjack, and it doesnt even have any large size internal memory, only external memory will give you that large memory size.

Yeah, but that's the case with ALL electronic gadgets. I remember when we still had non-color cell phones here. I saw this Japanese girl in a bar and she had a full 16bit color phone and was playing tetris on it and I was blown away. It was probably at least a couple years after that that the first color model came out here, and it wasn't even like full 8 bit color.

Basically the Japanese are always years ahead of us technology-wise. I believe the reason for this is because companies like to milk as much money as they can out of the Americans by staggering technology so that we have to buy a new computer/TV/phone/electronic gadget every 6 months.

Where do we get the money to pay for this? A job silly. I've already put away $400, and I'm using pocket change to save up the other $450 to $500. Because the phone is $600, $200 to disconnect my current cell phone, and then the 2 year contract of course.

As for comparing the iPhone to other phones... You really can't. The touch screen, compared to the LG phone you posted, is completely different, and patented. It's got some new multi touch deal, I don't know anything technical about it, but it corrects all your mistakes and doesn't recognize accidental touches. That LG phone doesn't do that. Not to mention the screen is bigger, and the battery life is longer.

As for the internet feature on the phone, it's faster than broadband. That's faster than any other cell phone out right now. And it's got it's own webpage design for using internet. It's not that crappy dumbed down stuff you see on normal cell phones.

It can multi task, (Someone few phones can do.) let alone multi task like 4 freakin' programs without a problem.

As for charging it daily, yea, most cell phones have only a 5-6 hour long active battery life. Meaning you can only talk continuously for 5-6 hours. You won't have to charge the iPhone more than you already have to charge your normal phone. Not to mention it has a 13 hour audio playback battery life. Which is way more than the iPod Video.

Yes, it will have it's kinks and bugs, but that's how it goes with all good products that come out. Except for Sony... They're just stupid, ergo, their products, and the bugs and kinks that come with their products, such as the PS3, are stupid because of stupidity. (Oh my, PS3... same games with better graphics, I think I might jizz myself... )

I dont know, but you all seem to be criticizing the iPhone just a bit to much. You saw him use the damn thing during the MacWorld Expo... It works... You can't really say that it doesn't, or that it sucks, or that it's nothing special... Because in all reality, it is. That LG phone doesn't have broadband internet speed.Oh, yea, the camera is 2 mega pixels. That's .7 more mega pixels than just about every other phone.

And it looks damn sexy too.

Just about any minor things that could be a disadvantage, such as a short battery life for those that really really like to use their iPhone, alot, can be improved apon. 8GB is enough for me, I have two iPods, I don't need anymore iPods... 20 or 30 would just make the phone bigger... and less attractive, that's just IMO.

And just how.. is not having tactile buttons on it, a bad thing? That means that, you can't, I don't know... breakt he buttons, they won't wear down to nothing, or lose the print on them, because there is no print. Exploring that phone is goning to be so fast and fluent.

Oh, and the buttons the the blackcherry, and blackjack, they fall off very easily. I sell cell phones in electronics at the connection center at walmart, and we had two blackjacks brought in just yesterday because they lost 3-4 of their buttons. Current smart phones suck, and their qwerty keyboards are crap.

I'm getting this phone in June when it comes out. And I am by no means a preppy who has everything handed to him. I haven't had anything handed to me in my life. (Besides christmas, and nothing too big, especially not $600, lmfao...) I work for what I get, so it's not just the preppies who will have them.

11 paragraphs... what the hell did I just write this for?

Sorry, you have so many mistakes that I must reply. I'm not familiar with the market in the US, but it seems that it's very different there. Maybe I just have a twisted view cause I'm Finnish, I don't know. I have nothing against you, I'm just saying that you should check your facts first. I'm using Nokia phones as examples cause I know them the best.
Switch Kicker wrote:As for the internet feature on the phone, it's faster than broadband. That's faster than any other cell phone out right now.
The iPhones fastest mobile data transmission technology is EDGE, which is a 2nd (and a half) generation technology. With EDGE data rates can reach around 180 kbit/s (effective) and with UMTS in currently deployed networks users can expect a performance from 384 kbit/s to 3.6 Mbit/s depending on the technology used on the phone. All of europe and most phones sold in europe have had 3G technology (UMTS) for 2-3 years now. Wlan is pretty new in phones, but Nokia has had models with wlan for about over an year now. I personally have a phone with wlan. So iPhone is actually slower than most of the phones (in europe) if you don't count wlan.
Switch Kicker wrote: And it's got it's own webpage design for using internet. It's not that crappy dumbed down stuff you see on normal cell phones.
My phone and most nokia phones have a browser that doesn't "dumb down" anything, though you can choose to if you want. It also has a nice zoom out zoom in feature to scroll big pages easier, similar to iPhone.
Switch Kicker wrote: It can multi task, (Someone few phones can do.) let alone multi task like 4 freakin' programs without a problem.
Sorry, but most phones that use the S60 platform can multitask. Here's a list of phones with S60.

Normal phones don't have a screen that's as big as your hand. The big size and the touch features eat alot of battery. Also if you are actively going to use wlan it will drain your battery like nothing you've seen before. I know, I use it with my phone regularly.
Switch Kicker wrote: Oh, yea, the camera is 2 mega pixels. That's .7 more mega pixels than just about every other phone.
2 megapixels is pathetic, if you really want to take good pictures get a digital camera. I've been annoyed for a few year now about having a camera in every damn phone on the market. But as we're talking about phones with cameras, Nokia has a few phones with pretty advanced cameras, but they're pretty expensive also (lots of other features also). For example N93 has a 3,2 megapixels camera which can also shoot 30 frames per second video. It's good enough for filming footbag for slowmotion (we've tried  ).

I've never seen tactile buttons fall off, but I've seen dozens of phones with broken screens. If the screen is hit it will leak the fluids in the impact area and create a black hole which will be there forever. With a huge screen like the iPhone, it has a pretty good change of getting hit with something if you carry it with you all the time. And I'd also like to say that the qwerty keyboard on my Nokia E70 is very good and fluid to use also.

In this post I may sound like I'm critizising the iPhone, but I actually think it has it's good sides. The main plus on it is the usability, Apple is known for making very usable devices and so far it looks like the iPhone won't be any different. But still, apart from the touch screen, it's really nothing special.

Oh boy, this is long!

You guys. It actually runs OSX. If you've enjoyed using OSX, then you understand what I mean. If you don't, then don't worry about the iPhone.

I can't afford one right now but I will definitely be getting one in the next few years. You can't deny that Apple is at the forefront of innovative design technology in America.

I wouldn't even want one of these as a gift. Other than being a waste of money I think it makes people look retarded walking around with these spending 600 dollars on em. YEH CITY SLICKERS.
Id like to whack an iphone with a golf club. That would be fun.

Are you from Nebraska or something? Go watch your corn grow...

What if you... farm boots (?)all of a sudden gained $600 in value... for no reason whatsoever. Would you be embarrassed to own them? That's just dumb.

Clearly says he's from Cali...

I think that I would not want to buy the iPhone as is, at this moment. I'd rather wait for the update. When they work out the bugs and have an even better phone. But that's just my opinion.

lol farmboots gaining $600. That is one of the stupidest things i've ever heard. Anyways there is a huge difference between something gaining value and something being overpriced. A gain in value would actually be beneficial to you, since that makes it sound like you already own it. Anyways, I realize the iphone has good features or what not, but it is a complete waste of money. Just kinda pathetic when people are willing to buy a phone for $600. Why don't you use it on something useful... I second the want to smack it with a golf club :D

5-6 hours? I charge my phone for 20 mins and it lasts 5-6 days. Same story with my iPod, which I've had working for 1 1/2 years, and can hold 1/3 (plenty for me) rather than 1/8 of my music. I can't imagine how fast the battery would wear out. Probably have to send it in for repair after less than a year.

I can't imagine how much the guys at the Genius bar are going to hate this....

But as someone else said - yeah it will be a status symbol for the urban hipelite, plain and simple.

I'll stick to my $30 nokia and 4g iPod.

and fyi, the "i" is always lower case. no 'IPhones' or 'Ipods' or 'Imacs.'

Hey Stephen, I think he was talking about continuous talk time. So it depends on whether or not you talk a lot.

I also think less expensive phones with less features take up less battery life, and also the size of the battery.

I got the "new" LG Chocolate on the day it came out ... but thats because it only cost me $50.00.
Well the battery life on this phone sucks ass! I talk on my phone very little ... and send a couple text messages a day. That in addition to having a small battery attached to the phone makes the battery die after 2-2.5 days .... during that 2nd day i only have one bar left. But the phone does look kind of cool ... so that kind of makes up for it.

I also think that $600.00 isn't that much to pay for a phone ... people have been paying amounts like that for a while ... the only reason it's a big deal now is because the phone is part of the "i" line or whatever from apple.

That comic is kinda funny. However no one really knows all the capabilities that the iPhone will have, so no one should be talking down about it quite yet. The iPhone very well could do all that and more. They only highlighted some of the cooler and more popular things the iPhone can do. And smartphone interfaces suck ass btw, at least IMO.

Edit: And there's a difference between having a phone that can use a 1GB mini SD card and a phone that has a 4 or 8 GB hard drive in it. For the music aspect of it I mean. Not to mention the screen is gorgeous, and it plays a lot of video formats too. I don't know... I just don't like smart phones. Bulky, irritatingly small keys, horrible unorganized navigation, bad interface, and most don't get very good signals from what I've seen.
