well, I didn't end up taking that nap yesterday. I gave my new place some much-needed cleaning for a few hours. I cleaned all the dishes and put away the ones I've got, emptied out and cleaned the fridge and microwave, wiped down the kitchen surfaces, took some really fruity stickers off the bathroom walls, cleaned the shower, put the living room back together.
so, now that I've begun this post in such an interesting manner...
the gig went well last night. being that this is a college town, the place was almost empty last night. my friend opened the night with a solo acoustic / vocal set, and I did the same after him. I only made $25 at the door at a dollar a head, but the way I see it, if I hadn't been there to play and drink for free, I would have been sitting over at the bar paying to drink, so all in all, it was a fun time. Also, because the attendance was so low, I played a lot more original music than I had at previous gigs, which was nice. I have a song that's been one of my favorites to play for a while now, called show me a scar, and I realized last night that it's almost been 5 years since I wrote it. A few beers, a few songs, a few bucks... not a bad night.
I woke up at around 9:30 today and then went back to sleep until about 1, got up and bought soup for my friend and next door neighbor graham, ate it down, and set about to getting my wireless internet working. That just meant about an hour on the phone with linksys tech support, and I'm using it now, so that's good.
my session today was fun, I played for about 1.5 - 2 hours. I was SORE from that long session yesterday, so I started off with some kicks and then some tiltless. Then spent a little while getting toe blur > tripwalk > blur repeat, which took a few tries, but I got it to a string, then I did rubberman to a string, then fear > fairy butter > blur repeat > string. I believe I did the same with pixie, not sure. maybe not. then, fear > smoke > string both sides, then dlo > op toe repeat a bunch of times > string (my DLOs have never been that strong). Then, it took me a LONG time, but I got muted spinning clipper > gyro clipper repeat > string. That was a good drill to pick because I was tired and sore, and it's not a very strenuous combo. Then, I worked on diving mirage > legbeater repeat, but I couldn't get it, only the link on both sides. flip diving mirage is not strong. I need to readjust the way I set my ducks and dives, especially on my flip. I need to do the whole set with the set foot. I've been doing a small hop of the support leg to really get the bag up in the air. Same for spinning ducking. More work to do.
Tonight, we're hanging with some friends from buffalo. I had considered going to rochester tonight to hang and eat sushi, but it's a bit late now. I'll go next weekend. no gigs or anything planned, so I can head out on friday, hopefully get in a session with the RFA, crash somewhere friday night, get up on saturday and check around town for this and that, catch up with this girl I like and take her to a sushi dinner and dollar pints, crash somewhere that night, head back on sunday at some point. I LOVE going to rochester, because I've got so many friends there that I can just crash around and hang out with people and have a little weekender. I feel like VIP when I go there. The last few times I've gone in for sushi, my friend who works there has given me a bottomless pintglass of plum brew beer, which is SO good.
Things are getting settled around the new place. I'm getting my crazy landlord to start taking care of some necessary shit (like providing me with a space heater, giving me locks for my doors, getting trash off the front porch, etc) and the place is starting to feel a bit more homey after those first few rough nights. I'm glad to have my internet to connect me to the rest of the world again. now, to start stitching again. alan underhill, your bag is first. then, who knows?
