Alan,
I don't mean to be a hater, but I'm worried about what I've read in here recently.

You're playing on an injured ankle, STILL? Even if you are not doing flip clipper stuff, you are still putting pressure on it just shredding in general. It's going to take longer to heal and you could potentially exacerbate the injury. I know you probably know that, but I just want to repeat it for you. Despite what you may want to think, you're body isn't indestructible.

 80 tries to hit one move? Are you serious? I hope you don't keep doing that. Add hunting is bad footbag. It's not a good use of your time (not that you should be shredding now anyway)

I just see you generating all this bad footbag karma and I'm worried for you.

Take a break. Heal up. Be good to your body and it'll be good to you. You're so fortunate that you're young you've got so much time to get good. Don't rush it. Be good to yourself.

All the best,

Ben

I understand your point Ben. I probably shouldn't have played that much today. I was just on a roll and wouldn't let myself. On a better note though my ankle didn't give me any grief at all today from any amount of twisting so I felt pretty safe with it, though I am staying away from Whirls for at least a week. But I do understand your concerns and I will take it easy.

As far as ADD hunting, I can see where it would come across as that, but I'm definitely sticking to my stuff. I've recently been trying to school my Spinning and I'm trying to hit just about everything I can already off of Spinning. And it wasn't just a straight 80 some attempts, they were broken up between drills and rests and whatnot. But I will spend more time on my basics and drilling as well. I've just been having all these breakthroughs in concepts and it's hard to get my grip if you get my meaning. Thank you though for opening me up to that. I'll give it a good bit of rest. :D

You really need to let your ankle fully heal and then give it another month or so before you try to increase your crank. Your ankle may NEVER heal right unless you take it easy and let nature take its coure.

Seriously Alan, I've told you about the same but haven't the courage to try to discourage you more, but they are totally right, you need to let your ankle get his crank by itself, it may take something like a month, but at least stop playing for 2-3 full weeks, I know it's hard but it's necessary. If you don't do that you'll be like myself and had problem with your ankle for your whole life, because I been stupid I have been swoling my ankles at least once a year since I'm 15 and I'm now 21, I have done lot of work on both ankles and it's now lot better, but I know I'll never get fullly healed.

About add hunting, I'm not into add hunting at all, I've never hit any 5 adds and I'm not mad about that. But I don't think what you've done is really bad, like you told you're just putting together the concepts you already have down. That's a good thing, never try 80 times a trick at the same time but if you tried it 80 times in like 6-7 session I don't think it's that bad.

Ok, I'll stay off of it for a good while. I guess I'll get some more work done on the thing for Daryl. That and as of last night I'm going to start getting back into my Zippo tricks.

I know what you mean Mat, I'm not into ADD hunting either. I tend to get frustrated and end my sessions on a bad note so I've stayed away from it. I just kept going for Spinning Dyno so many times because I knew I could get it, especially after hitting it and missing the catch around try number 15.

I also forgot to add in my excitement that I broke my Legover, Mirage, and Flip Mirage records in consecutives. And I hit Strong Illusion mid-string and hit Flip Illusion by itself for the first time. So that was pretty sweet. But yeah, I'll find some other things to keep me occupied.

Just to forwarn though that if David Wilder has time this weekend, I'll be playing then. I won't be trying anything special though. I'll just be sticking to Spinning and basic Toe stuff.

And lastly just to clarify, I haven't been trying to increase my crank. I've just been guaging it daily, not putting any pressure on it.

Thanks guys. :D

P.P.S.- This is the video of me hitting Spinning Dyno. I realise it's not a very clean catch and I had to reach for it, I'm just not used to controlling all the momentum from Spinning, still was an incredible feeling hitting it. I apologize for the quality as well, Fizzied wasn't working for me.

Hey, I guess your name is Alan, my name is John Bagi. Your situation sounds similar to mine. From reading a couple of posts here I c that your at a skill level like mine. Now usually when I'm shredding I get crazy adreneline rush's. I literally can't control myself enough to stop trying ONE trick and I'm paying for it rite now :( . First, I get all siked up thinking I'm goin to hit some new trick or concept. Then, I try it until I can't try it no more. Iron Clad Ben, you think 80 times is a lot; about 4 days ago I went out to shred, promising myself I would only work on easy two or three add guiltless strings, I finished the sesh with about 45 minutes of pixie double switchover. My knee STILL hurts and I haven't been able to play since :? . To have self control mentally is equally important as physically, if not more. I hope I could be of some help! It's definitly something I must work on!!

I agree with Pete.

Not about the ankle though, don't go too hard on it.

That move is super sick nasty, quite clean too.

Oh yah, spinning dyno, very nice. Must feel great to hit that! Try pixie dyno, when your ankle gets better of course. That was my first.

not to encourage/discourage you from playin on your ankle, but don't think that trying a move alot is bad. drilling concepts is good and everything, but i don't think 100 tries for a new move is pushing it unless its high stress.

fact:

it took me over 70 tries to hit my first sick 1 for the modified online comps...

(weaving butter)

props on your first 5.

I would say stick to stuff that has low stress on the ankle, and not push it too much.

good job ;)

Wow. 8O This is the best response my blog has gotten...ever! :D
No Footbag today either but I did manage to hit an Inverse Palm Squeeze with my Zippo... thankfully my 1937 Vintage Brass is nice and grippy.

Taylor- Yeah, I was unbelievably exhausted and at the same time thrilled so the only thing I could do was just lie down. 8 P

Pete- Thanks buddy! I agree to some extent but I believe that Ben was just trying to keep me on the right track in my progression instead of going off trying to hit huge stuff. I understand his intentions and it is pretty nice to have someone to keep you grounded if you get my meaning. :D

John- Hey man, I definitely agree 100% on that. Footbag is just as much mental as it is physical, which is one of the things that makes it even more appealing heh. I do need to allow myself breaks more and not get caught up in the excitement. You did help. I can't Pixie yet though. That's something I'm going to hold off on until I can get together with Aric McIntosh, he's amazing at Pixie's.

Zac- "Super sick nasty..." <--- I like how that sounds when I say it. :P

Eric- Thanks man! It's a pretty nice feeling hearing that from such an awesome player!

Nathan- I know what you mean bud. Anything that starts to hurt or feels slightly stressful I tone it down a bit. Plus, usually if they are high stress I tend to run out of energy before hurting myself.

Zeb- Thanks buddy. I've been off of it for yesterday and today besides school and mowing the lawn. I think I may just do some consecutives tomorrow to blow off some steam. My Flip Mirage could use some work.

David- I got your pm bud. Heh, we can be cripple buddies when we shred! Looking forward to it!

Hey thanks guys. 8 ) Yeah Ben, that was a Flip Spin. Both sides are pretty uch equal with Spinning. I even managed to spin out of a Toe Ducking Butterfly on Tuesday before the Spinning Dyno, but when I went for the Pickup I swatted the bag out of the air. :x And like I sai, all the credit for my encouragement with Spinning goes to you buddy. :D

DTank- You're quite welcome. It was much deserved. :) I actually just talked to Aric on the phone about an hour ago. He's not far at all from where I live. He won't be able to shred tomorrow with David and I but he said in about a week or so. I'm pretty excited. He kicks ass at Pixie's too. Lot's of learning oppurtunities.

I just got off the phone now with David Wilder as well, shred time is set tomorrow. I'm excited as hell, finally someone to shred with. :D

As for today, I did maybe 10 minutes at lunch to blow of some steam. Did some consecutives. Managed to hit Toe Ducking Mirage x2. Nothing else really. It was humid and hot out. My least favorite things. >_<
I also managed to hit a regular Palm Squeeze with my Zippo today for the first time. It turns out I learned the hard version before the easy one heh. I'm liking it either way. Maybe when I learn some Aerial tricks or even some other simple Squeezes I'll make a video...

Tomorrow is going to kick ass.

Later! :D

I don't think today could have been any better. Ankle feels fine, though it's slightly swollen after shredding a lot, it doesn't hurt at all though.
I was able to shred with Daivd Wilder today, awesome guy. I was able to help him with some set height for Toe Ducking and a few other things too. And he helped me with my timing for Toe Ducking Mirages. It was great to finally be able to talk Footbag with someone and have them know what you are talking about too. I had fun. Looking forward to the next time. :D

I hit a BUNCH of shit too. My Spinning was pretty good today. Dyno's not so much but oh well. Did about 2 hours with David and Brandon, he's new to Footbag, and then about a little over an hour at the gym followed by weight training. Today was basically a huge release of energy for me. :D

Before I get into highlights, I just want to give a little info about Brandon. He's a Freshman, very enthusiastic(almost too enthusiastic sometimes  ), and built fairly similar to Mike Anello. He's only been really playing for about a week or two. BUt today he did really well. It turns out my old worn out Lavers fit him as well so he didn't have to use his really cushiony shoes with bad surfaces. He managed a couple of Toe Stalls on both feet and managed 17 consecutive kicks using both feet by the end of our session. He did very well just in that small amount of time.

Ok Highlights now:

Session with David and Brandon
 Whirl>Torque (Though the Torque was kind of choppy and forced.)
 One particularly long run with a decent amount of variety. I was pretty excited about that, though I forgot everything I hit during it heh.
 I hit a couple of Illusions and Paradox Mirages mid-run with really thinking which was pretty cool.
 Butterfly>Whirl>Infinty>Whirl drill for the second time ever.

Solo Session Afterwards
 Lot's of Flip Whirls, absolutely no stress at all on my ankle. These felt very good today.
 Flip Paradox Whirl. These are surprisingly easier than my Strong Paradox Whirls. And again there was no stress on my ankle. Woot!
 Spinning Clipper BSOS.
 Footed Flip Toe Ducking Butterfly.
 Toe Ducking Butterfly>Spinning Mirage. <--- This felt awesome.
 Practiced my Atomic Set. My set is getting higher which is good.

I got about 6 compliments at the Gym. Kick ass. :D

Props if you read all of that!

finally got to see the spinning dyno video,
props :D
be careful with your ankle. Do what you want with your shred and don't feel pressured to do stuff just cause people tell you to, if you want to take 100 tries to hit a trick that's fine, just make sure you are thinking about how you are hitting it so you don't get injured.
