Diaries of a noob!

I used to play "hacky sack" everyday in middle school. None of us ever got very good... i could occasionally do toe stalls and flying clipper (didn't know what it was called then.. Although, we would do it with an out dex.) We would have a circle going every lunch.. But, we would play this game known as 'God.' Basically, if it was hit three times, you could catch it and hurl it at one of your fellow competitors. lol Violent, painful, yet still fun (and excitedly satisfying.) I eventually fell out of it.. but one of my friends found his old crocheted sack and i felt like kicking again. I decided to look for videos online.. i came across Flipsider and it went from there. The most inspiring video i've seen so far is "Style is forever" with Yacine Merzouk. He's amazing...

So, eventually... i ended up here. i really had no idea that there was "Freestyle footbag" or was i aware of the insane things some of you are able to accomplish. i knew at once i wanted to immerse myself in this sport. i want it even more now.

So, i'm just starting. i have no unrealistic expectations of what i want to accomplish "soon." i'm working on the fundamentals... Kicks. i can toe stall consistently. 80%? Maybe a little less on my right foot. Just found myself able to do inside stalls.. but only right foot. Getting there... Getting there... :)

Trying to work myself up to 100 hundred consecutive kicks.. i hit 35 before school behind the donut shop. (Maybe i should have gone to Second period instead...) That number is far from consistent lol.. but i did it!

Last night i ripped my vans... but they're still playable for now. i'm dreaming about those Rod Lavers...... i see myself owning a pair and it brings a tear to my eye.

i suppose my biggest accomplishment is around the world. i can even toe stall sometimes. Only right leg though... My left is still dumb. :) Oh, wait, should i count being able to understand Job's Notation as an accomplishment? lol...

Goals
  • Practice everyday!
    100 consecutive kicks in 1 month's time
    Clipper stall

Your on the right track :!:

If you keep playing everyday you'll progress fast!

Dont forget about your flipside drill it hard

When you get good toe stalls go for legover, pick ups, illusions, mirages.

Drill the toes like op toe>ss toe>rpt

Best of luck

Work is interfering with my regularly scheduled sessions! (And so is Lord of The Rings Online, for that matter...)

Still haven't hit 100, but i almost hit mirage. (lol?) Toe stalls are almost effortless... inside (both sides) is getting there.

Gotta get back into the flow of practicing everyday. i enjoy being on the right track :D

Still need SHOES!

I always love to read new players blog, it makes me remember 10 months ago when I couldn't even do a clipper. Now I'm an intermediate player, and still improving :). If you practice everyday you can improve just as fast as I have and others have. I had the luck to play with Yacine Merzouk twice and it was amazing, he's really an awesome player and a great guy. Try to meet footbagger in your area, they may not be as good as Yacine but you'll learn a lot from them. Good luck in footbag and I want you to hit that mirage!! :D

Oh and getting a pair of lavers is a good idea, it will send your game to another level of play, you'll have better control and everything with them. Lighter, better surface, better feeling.

Selling My Soul.

Post by Rising »

Thanks For The Comments :)

i hit mirage once or twice. Only one side.. but it's something. Far from being remotely "good." lol. Funny how exhilarating it feels to yearn for something and then suddenly get it, especially if it's quite unexpected! i grasp the concept of this being a journey... i hope i can get as far in mine as some of you have.

To be honest, i fell out of practicing to some extent the last few weeks... Things are just catching up to me... i suppose it is unavoidable. So close to the end of my last year of high school and i still don't know what i'll do. What have i accomplished in this time? Nothing to boast about. This ties into footbag only in that it is something i want to accomplish. i started yesterday with a vow to play everyday.. it's almost as if i need this. Sure, it could've been something else, but footbag has become the thing that i need to accomplish. i have to prove to myself that i can accomplish something, and then, perhaps other things will fall into their places!

My mind runs in circles and tangents.. Endlessly looping on the possibilities and consequences of various actions.. it makes me feel aimless. i need this to focus my mind. Find my center. i suppose what i'm trying to say, is that i think this could help me balance everything within myself. Not fix, not cure, help. So.. i'm going to stand up, and go play.

You ever make promises to yourself you don't keep? Heh...

So, i'm officially a high school graduate. it's a shame really that i almost didn't graduate.. Not because it was out of my reach (Public school in california? give me a break..) but because i am lazy. To the extreme. Already, i look back and wonder why i didn't do an endless list of things.. but i suppose it doesn't matter now. Gotta look ahead, right? Well, now i am. i'm going to pick up where i left off with this.. at the beginning :) i didn't have time, i didn't make time.. And i'm not going to make excuses! lol

i wish myself luck.. But that's not what i need.

SHRED!!

...i would now, but it's 1 am.

So, trying to get a practice in everyday.

It feels like starting from scratch lol. Honestly, i haven't been as active lately as i once was and my endurance is pretty nonexistent.

Keeping it up. 2 days in a row.

Ninety Seven Degrees in my bedroom???? WHERE'S THE AC?!

Back on the right track! :D

Been practicing a fair amount.. With the recent heat wave that's struck my area, i haven't been up to playing every single day. Tried to go to the beach as much as possible.. But thankfully now it's starting to cool down again; Return to your regularly scheduled shredding :]

Came soooooooo close to hitting mirage again at the beach three days or so ago... yeah... it was such a good feeling! lol. All this inactivity this summer has made me gain weight :O ...So, i went today to try to sign up for the YMCA, but it's not like i can make the monthly payment without a job. lol. So, my friend just got a job at this video store.. maybe i'll go apply...

LUCK!!!!! ...to myself

Bellflower, huh? I live about half an hour's drive from there.

New trick highs are awesome. They make you feel that you've really accomplished something.

LUCK! to you :D

So, here's the story:

i finally get to see my girlfriend after three months (she was on summer vacation in egypt) unfortunately, she's a senior in high school so i decided to visit her at lunch. So, i hop the gate.. we spend about a half hour together and then she goes on her way to her next class. lmao... i barely had any sleep, so my arm kind of... got tired... at the top of the fence, and i fell wrong on my ankle..... it didn't hurt at the time, but on the way to my friends house it started hurting. SO i was unable to play for a few days. it feels fine now, and i would've been mindful of it HOWEVER

I CAN'T FIND MY FOOTBAG!!!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! God, it has to be around here somewhere... i'll be stuck with next to nothing until i get a job if i can't... Last time i saw it, i was at the beach. But, i know for sure it got home because i thought i lost in the car, but i was just sitting on it lol. After that.. *sighs.*

Well, here's hoping i find it tomorrow. Yup, just one of those good news bad news er... weeks. lol.

Dang... Sounds like you've had a rough time lately! Don't give up though, it is easy to make excuses, but just keep it in your mind... even though your ankle might still be sore, make yourself practice a trick now and then at least a couple times, even if it's something easy (I usually like to practice until I hit something--just to keep myself motivated to do it next time--and to end on a good note), just don't overdo it! This is why I usually carry a footbag in my purse  That way, even though I'm not always thinking about footbag, I have something to do if I get bored, or the mood strikes me!
I hope your ankle recovers well, and that hopefully you can find another footbag! (You could always order one of BenRea's Tough Twelves if you can't find yours--they're cheap, but high quality :D )
Anyway, I wish the best for you, and keep up the great work!!
