Footbag Saved My Life

Post by Jeremy »

So maybe not saved my life, and I don't know if I can really attribute this to footbag, but it was a good title :P

Anyway today there was a big fire in a department store in the city, I walked past it and was on my way home from footbag when I was hit by a car. I say "hit" but really I wasn't hit at all. I was crossing the road (with a green man) and a car came around the corner without seeing me. They did see me too late and started breaking, but there was no way I could get out of the way. So I jumped backwards and then put my feet on the end of the bonnet and cushioned the impact, then as they stopped jumped backwards and landed on my feet, but then fell backwards. Everybody around came running over and were like; "are you ok," and the driver (who was on a mobile phone when he ran into me) was super apologetic, but I was like; "fuck yeah, how awesome was that!" - Car Surfing - the next big extreme sport.

It was pretty mental. I'm not sure I did the right thing in hindsight - it could have been an easy way to break an ankle. It probably would have been better to roll across the front of the car. Anyway my heart is still pumping, so I felt the need to post the story :D

Man I would pay so much money to anybody who filmed it, but unfortunately not. I just say that "footbag saved my life" because it's improved my vertical spring and agility. If I had have jumped later, or not so high, it could have been a different story.

Like, where I live, "bonnet" is a little hat that a baby wears. Is it part of a car in Tasmania?

Lol, yeah it's the front :)

edit; I think "hood" would be the most accurate interpretation.

That's cool that you had the reflexes to jump on a car's hood (bonnet). I'm positive footbag had something to do with that.

You should make shirts that say "Footbag Saved My Life." I would buy one for sure.

When you're allowed to walk across the road you get a "green man" light.

I think I probably exaggerated my run in with the car, and under estimated the fire though. Pretty much the entire CBD is closed off now. Apparently the building collapsed. It's a massive building too. When I walked past it seemed totally under control. There was smoke coming out one or two windows, some firemen were coming out of the building looking relaxed. I assumed it was all over. It was a bit of a blow, because I was supposed to be buying a girl a birthday present from a shop on the street the building was on, but it was all evacuated.

we have white men in america that means run!!

, and red men that should mean dont walk.

if you read my blog post from early this week, i almost flattened a bike rider, thanks to the red man meaning "hurry up" to retards.

glad youre okay, and looked like some ninja when it happened. it made me smile thinking of you jumping on a babys head, springing off, backflip mid air and getting applause.

I have a story like that too.

When I was 19 I was with a group of guys and we had just exited a restaraunt where we had eatten lunch. I must have gotten out of the restaraunt late cause the guys I was with were backing out of their parking space as I was walking to my car. Anyways, they didn't see me and the guy driving is a maniac anyways and he gunned it out of the parking space spitting dirt and rocks everywhere (did I mention we were 19? And in a dirt parking lot?)

Like a cat I jumped into the air thinking I need to stay alive. So I ran across the top of the car as he was flying backwards. The car must have been doing all of 8 miles an hour, but it was enough for me to take 3 steps and I was back on the ground in front of them.

They all got out and were like, "Dude we didn't see you, are you ok?" To which I replied, "Yeah, Mark you're a maniac!"

I left permanent dents in his hoopty (fancy word for piece of crap car) so I don't feel so bad about almost being run over.

It's been a long running fantasy of mine to come out of a vehicle-pedestrian accident unharmed. I'm pretty sure I could do it, provided I saw the car at all before it hit me. I've got all these elaborate contingency plans for the angle / speed at which I'm hit. Some involve handsprings! I also like the idea of just plain jumping over a (small) car that speeds under me.

I'm insanely jealous of both Jeremy and Damon for their experiences.

Jeremy, you must learn to do backflips.

A jump > cushion impact on car's bonnet > backflip > give the driver a little nod > continue conversation on your mobile with a "sorry I just backfliped off a car"
