Blake- new moves!!!!

Post by Beezer »

hey, at Conrad's suggestion, I'm finally starting up a blog!

My name is Blake. Quick history: I was a "hackey sacker" for like 5 or 6 years on and off before I found footbag; I could do toe stalls and all kinds of head and back stalls, but that was it. I started to find footbag videos online when I got to college and it took off from there. Unfortunately, I didn't find anyone to kick with until just recently, so I never got very good because of the lack of motivation, pointers, good examples... So I figure I've been in the novice range for the last 2 years or so.

But now I'm gettin out for sessions with Conrad and Josh (whenever he can make it :P), so I'm actually learning some stuff!

Sessioned wtih Conrad a couple days ago and hit like 3 or 4 new moves.
First it was just the blurry followed a little later (after many failed attempts) by ripwalk, almost bs, but not quite.

Next thing was a pdx mirage followed closely by butterfly>pdx mirage.

I didn't really hit any long strings or anything, I was really just trying to get some up time elements down to add some spice to my game as it were. I worked on pixie and realized that I can hit it way better barefoot than I can with Lavers; the toe box was getting in the way, I gotta get used to that.

We are going to session again soon, we'll see how it goes! :D

Hey man, sweet progress! Sorry I couldn't make it out on friday, I wish I could've! Dude, you've already hit ripwalk! Mega props! Can't wait till thursday to kick with ya and Conrad!

Take it easy....
Josh

P.S. I got all the panels for your bag cut out, I'll probably stitch it tomorrow if I can get in the mood for it!

Blake,

Good idea to start a blog! I want to kick one of theses days but first I think I better hit the doctor first. Hopefully nothing is messed up to bad with my ankle.

Anyway, great progress! Keep it up! Don't forget to work the 2 adds (tiltless)! I think it is finally getting through to Josh. He is drillin more! He is an animol anyway. Sounds like you are on your way too! I will talk/see you one of these days!

take it easy and keep kickin,
later...

Sessioned with Conrad and Josh a few days ago, it was less eventful than the session with Conrad a week ago, but not too bad.

Unfortunately, due to some tight muscles, I was afraid to do too much with stepping sets so I didn't hit ripwalk again. Footed it quite a few times though.

Didn't really try to hit any other big moves, I just tried to put together some tiltless strings. I got some, not long ones though. I think the best was mirage>LO>rpt.>butterfly> then I just toe stalled because I was so amazed that I had made it that far that I didn't think of another trick to do after the butterfly! haha

oh, I did hit illusion bs with shoes on, which is new, I have hit it before barefoot, that's easier for me, I don't know why.

Shred on! see you later

had a pretty good session with Conrad today.

First I hit the string: mirage>LO>rpt.>butterfly again, but easier this time.
After that, I started going for some bigger single moves.

I decided my goals were either ripwalk again or sidewalk for the first time and either parkwalk or dimwalk.

I tried those and failed.....a lot, so in my crappy shreding induced boredom, I decided to try symp mirage and hit it after footing it a few times!!!! :D :D :D

Then I went back to the others and still couldn't hit anything. After seeing Conrad hit some awesome stuff with drifters, I decided "what the hell!? I'll give it a try for kicks (no pun intended)." So on a whim, I tried a few drifters and hit that too!!!!!! 8O 8O 8O :D

Then I went back to the walks again. Finally, I hit sidewalk (with a little slurry, but back the hell off!!!! I was tired and it was the first time I hit it!!!) :D

I never did hit dimwalk or parkwalk :( My pixie sets weren't really consistent enough on either side, I did foot it quite a few times. I also tried dragon from a same clip set sort of as a joke, then got really close and tried it a few more times more seriously. I cought the bag a few times, but was never able to set it back up, when I tried to toss it up again, it would just roll off :( but it was close!!!

I think that's everything, I'll get back to you after next session!!

later shredders!!!!! :D

Hey!!! Sessioned a little earlier with Conrad

Pretty much my only goal today was to put together some strings because I haven't really been trying that much, just trying for bigger single tricks (well....bigger for me). Also, it was kind of hard to keep the energy level up because we were shredding under the only lights in the park which happened to be near a funeral for a guy named Rob. So while we were shredding, we had to listen to these people crying and talking about him. I really don't mean to be an insensitive ass or anything, I'm just saying that it was kind of a downer.

Anyway!!! Good stuff:

Hit a few solid whirls for the first time and got fairly close on the flip. :)

Had some pretty good runs, at least....better than mirage>LO>rpt. :) The best was
mirage>LO>illusion>ss butterfly>ss butterfly>almost infinity :D

I also footed a lot of stuff: park walk, dim walk, not footed but got sort of close to DLO, drifter sort of, and my pixies are slowly getting better. :)

I think that was about it.

later!

I’m a little late but I figured I’d go ahead and post about the session with Josh and Conrad on Friday.

I’m still trying to put together some tiltless strings which was going pretty well. I don’t remember any specific runs, but I tried to add some stuff that I didn’t have before like pick ups and mirages and illusions from ss clips (is that called near? I think so).

For some weird reason, my stepping sets got really good at the end of the session out of nowhere :) , so I hit some cool moves with that:

ripwalk again….finally :D
blurry legover :)
and I tried to hit blurry pickup and blurry mirage (what was that called? Blur?) I didn’t hit either one, but it felt good, I think I’ll be able to hit those soon.

ok, had a last minute session with Conrad, so unfortunately we couldn't get Josh out for it (sorry man).

I was feeling really good so the session went really well. I hit some righteous new stuff:

BLUR!!!! (told you I'd get it next session :D :D ) It took like 6 million tries footion it to actually hit it.

Ripwalk bs (first time hitting it on the flip) :D :D

DLO!!! 8O 8O (hit this on what I thought should have been the flip side...weird) :D

Then for the sake of strings, I had Conrad com up with a run for me to do and he gave me:

Mirage> ss mirage> butterfly> pdx mirage
so I hit that and, since I was in mirage mode, hit another mirage at the end.

Had yet another session with Conrad

I was workin the stepping sets:
blurry clipper :)
stepping clipper :)

hit some cool connections:
consecutive stepping clippers
stepping clipper> ss butterfly :D this one was fun

I also hit an 8 contact tiltless run, but I don’t remember what was in it

later!!

Hey, haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d post about last Friday’s session. It was the biggest footbag circle I’ve ever been in: Josh, Mike, Jason (new guy :) ), Conrad (sort of  ), and me.

I hit a few ok runs with a whole lot of mirages.
My strong side illusion got a lot better.
I’m still trying to improve the basic elements so that I can hit longer tiltless runs.

I did hit a couple new moves:
Flip far legover
Ans……….BLIZZARD :D :D !!! it was nice too, pretty clean and smooth, it was awesome.

Might session with Conrad later, not sure yet. But if not, then Friday will be the next one.

Wow! It’s been longer since my last post than I thought!!! I’m finally posting about our session last Friday!! It was sweet.

I hit a bunch of stuff:
Atomic clipper
Tapping mirage! :) (is that what atomic mirage is called?)
Legbeater!! 8O :D
Drifter :D :D (finally hit it again) I can only do it from a toe set though, not from clipper which is supposedly easier.
Flip whirl!! (Oddly satisfying even though it’s not a very big move) :D

I also hit some pretty good runs; I can never remember what they were though! :x

Ok, finally posting again.

I’ll start with last week, which I didn’t bother posting about because there wasn’t much to talk about. Really the only thing worth mentioning is that I footed flip blur….yay….

This week’s Friday footbag session was pretty sweet though:
Hit some ok runs
New stuff:
Stepping osis
Blurry osis
And…(drum roll): atom smasher!!!! :D After footing it like a million times.

I also had some good pixie sets (well…better than before :) ), but I didn’t really do anything with them.

Disaster struck toward the end of the session though when my footbag sprung a leak!!! One of the panels has a bad hole, NNOOOOOO!!!!! 8O    :(

Until next time, I wish you good shredding

Ok, finally got past crunch time at school (a.k.a. finals) s owe finally got together for another session last Friday!!!!

I don’t have a lot of highlights:

I was hitting longer strings like Mike said in his blog. I think I’m finally starting to slow down, though Mike says I still need to slow down more, I’m sure he’s right. Maybe it was the cold that slowed me down…

I think the only new move was whirl. :)
I hit rev whirl before, but now I have both on the strong side… well, I don’t “haveâ€

It was ducking butterfly from an opp clip set, I don’t know what that’s called, but it was awesome!! :D Like a phoenix only not nearly as cool cause it was only a clip set, not pixie. :P

Oh!!! We nicknamed Josh!! :D He is now Josh Gumby Munstermann. I like it, I don’t care what he says, I’m calling him that from now on. (evil laugh)
Props on Ducking Butter! And by the way, that is what's called too!

And........

Gumby will not stick! EVER!
