Sort of on topic: I hate the smell of ketchup, but like the taste.

That is gross, but I think mayo is nasty. On a side note, European mayo is delicious! I was irked out when I went to Europe and they served it with fries but it is completely different and so good. Also, yellow mustard sucks, you should get the gouldans spicy mustard or stone ground or something of that sort.

My three favorites:

Sriracha hot sauce (The one from the bottle with the cock on it)
Butter
guacamole

But where do you draw the line between a condiment and a sauce?

Hot Sauce is definitely first. If I had to choose, salt then pepper next.

Definately try something before you label it as gross. My current favourite snack/meal (Mi Goreng noodles with onion and egg) when my mate tried to get me to try it, I looked at him weird. I have been converted. my god. it's good. and yes, I am so eating it tonight. hell YEAHS

Mi goreng is tastey stuff Jamie! High five! I often like adding some spring onions to the mix too. I buy Mi Goreng and Shin Ramyun by the box.

Is Kimchi a condiment or a side dish? Because I like Kimchi on almost everything and I rarely ever use real condiments.

Correction: It's addictive... and even better when you put eggs and onion in it! muhahahaha...

I'm contemplating having it for breakfast but I'll probably just have eggs.

We call those "suicides"...mixed soda drinks. I dunno. I used to do it when I was younger, but then I realized they tasted like crap most of the time. Then I realized pop is horrible for health, so I don't drink it much at all.

Blue cheese, nacho cheese (queso w/e), thai peanut sauce (i have no idea what its really callled)
After extensive review of the play the ruling on the field is

1. Thai peanut sauce (whatever is the sauce for pad thai, god is it good)
2. Marinara Sauce
3. Honey Mustard

peng: I think due to kimchi belonging to a culture with a much different approach to eating than is typical in North America it can't really be classified strongly. Of course, it can be used as a condiment, but whether it's considered a "condiment" in traditional korean cooking is another thing. By my understanding, it's more a small side dish.

re-sauce: I guess I would say that while condiments are "optional" savoury type things used to enhance the flavor of a meal, a sauce is an integral part of the meal. Eggs benedict would not be eggs benedict sans-hollandaise sauce, fettucini alfredo can't exist without alfredo sauce, etc. However you can add something like a salty white cheese to fettucini alfredo as a condiment. The presence of it doesn't alter what the meal is.

This is basically splitting hairs, though, and I think the nature of this hair-splitting is kind of ridiculous. Cooking experimentally and exploring is something I really enjoy and this kind of hair-splitting doesn't seem to have much place in it.

My favorite condiment is that Japanese mayonnaise mixed with sri racha sauce.

Thanks mostly to this thread and a Red Robin advertisement, I am now a guacamole addict (before I didn't want anything to do with it). I add it to any burrito or chips, but today, we just had guacamole on our burgers. MMMM! Our next burger experiment is going to be teriyaki sauce.
