Yay, someone posted! Thanks Ken. Glad you enjoy some of my more random moments.

Figured I'd talk a bit about Star Wars Mini's. It's my new obbsession. Basically take the D&D miniatures game and throw star wars characters and Force powers in. So much fun for a fan like me. I've only been playing for like 6 months, but have spent well over a grand buying mini's. They are so cool. I play with three other guys and I'm quickly becoming the guy to beat even though I'm the newest person. I guess this is just an introduction to my future posts about it. As I play matches I'll post about the results and maybe post when I get new figures and wanna talk to myself about them.

Had a session last night. I'm trying to focus on drilling for a while. Shredmonton is coming up and I wanna be back in shape for it, so for about a month I'm just gonna drill. Last night's session started slowly for a number of reasons. I am using the spare room that's not really part of our suite to shred in. So I got it cleaned up a bit and vacuumed. Then I popped my shred mix cd in and realized it wouldn't play. Turns out I had burned a data disc instead of audio. I reburned it and started warming up while it was burning.

my session went like this:

 50 consec kicks (turned into 88)
 stretching
 10 of each atw
 messing around and putting some short strings together
 pixie>mirage>pixie>mirage>pixie>drop
 10 right pixies
 10 left pixies

Then I started to feel hungry so I did my 50 consec kicks to end the session (ended up at 58) and stretched.

I made some pork chops for supper and they were really yummy. I just sprinkled seasoning salt and curry powder on them and then fryed them in oil. Deelish!

I also managed to splatter burning oil all over my chest and now it's speckled with puffy red spots.

I had a short session last night. Watching Jim's new video really made me want to play, but then the fact that it was already nine thirty and that my legs aren't used to the stress of playing yet turned it into a short session.

I felt that I hardly got past my warm-up before I got tired out. I'll post what I did anyways:

 50 consecutive kicks
 stretching
 messing around with ducking and hating how it felt
 10 each of all four atw's
 pixie>mirage>pixie>mirage>legover
 tried some fairy's but by this time my legs were already gone
 50 consec kicks
 stretching

Why do I play footbag?

Post by sen »

Why Do I Play Footbag?

I'm not going to be a world champion. I don't have the dedication to train that hard. I don't have the desire to spend that much time or put my body through that much stress. I also don't want to eat healthier so I can have the body of a pro athlete. I don't play footbag to become the best in the world. I've decided I don't play footbag for my mother, or for my wife. I don't play footbag for any of you on modified. I don't play footbag for Mike, Brett, Kevin or Rory. I don't play footbag for my friend, Jonathon who helped me learn my first tricks and get interested in more than kicking. I don't play for anyone. I play this crazy game for myself.

I play footbag to keep in shape. Even if that shape is round. I wouldn't call myself fit, but the only thing keeping me active is Footbag. Footbag is my way of staying off my ass. I like video games. I like movies. I like TV. If I didn't have something I enjoyed doing to get me active I would be 300 pounds. I also like eating. I really like eating! In time I hope that footbag well help me get in shape. I don't care about weight, but I'd like to lose some belly fat. I'd also like to get in better shape so I have better stamina. Right now I can hardly play for 10 minutes without tiring out. I play footbag for fitness.

I play footbag because it makes me feel good. I feel good when I hit new things. I feel good when I get sweaty and know that I have been playing hard. I feel good when someone posts in my blog to let me know I'm not alone. I feel good when I can go to a tourney and play with other people that are way better than me and still treat me like an equal and like I'm an old friend, even if they've never met me. Footbag makes me feel alive.

There are other reasons I play, but mostly I do it because I enjoy it and like how it makes me feel. Once and a while there are days when I hate the sport. It might be because I can't hit any moves or because I just feel to tired and weak. I seem to be forever taking time off. Sometimes i take months and even years off at time. I recently noticed that I signed up for Modified in March of 2003. That was over five years ago. I'm pretty sure I was hitting atws before I signed up. How many players out there are still tiltless after five years? I don't think there are many. I've decided that I don't even care if I ever become guiltless.

Why do you play?

Starting tricks

I've been really footbagging for almost 3 months now, and I've started to hit inside stalls, toe stalls, and my right clipper. Got my lavers last weekend. SWEET! I can't seem to ever get my left clipper. Any suggestions?

Your last post was really touching. Thank you for sharing that. I may write a response when I get through the next month of hell. But for now, just wanted to say thanks for sharing.

For the left clipper: I assume it's your weak (flip) side? If so the main reason it's tough to hit is just because you aren't used to using it. One thing I found that really helped me get used to the motion was...

1. Catch an inside stall on your bad side
2. slowly pull your foot around the support leg and into clipper position
3. be careful to keep a flat surface while doing this
4. hold that weak clipper for a few seconds
5. set the bag up and slightly in front of you
6. try to catch it in an inside stall again
7. rinse and repeat.

Also, any time your standing/sitting around you might want to work on your crank. Just remember to be gentle with your stretches. Don't pull anything. Most importantly practice. I hope that helps you out. I'm honoured to be someone you would come to for advice, but I can't help thinking that was just a mistake.

Ken, I'm glad you liked it. Something I read in Jame's blog sparked my mind going so I figured I'd type it out. I figure it'll be a good read later on. I'd love to hear your response to it!

No footbag for the past while, been busy with life. I've decided to do twenty sit-up's a day. I still haven't done todays . . . *huff puff* There, now I have. Today my wife told me I should buy a new bag or two. Then told me I could spend a hundred dollars on Footbag stuff. I figure I'll get four bags for that. I'd get a video, but honestly, with what I can watch online for free I have enough footage. I'd rather get gear to play with. Peace.

Thanks for the quick reply, and it's great to be able to see what another shredder does to improve his skills. I'm a noob, and most of the time have no idea how to get better. The advice was great.

Glad I could help.

So, yesterday I figured I'd get a nice long shred in since I had the day off. I didn't think I had anything pressing to get done, so it was going to be nice. Because I figured I had all day, I started my day with a big cup of coffee and some Smash Brothers. I unlocked a few new stages and designed a few custom ones, then started picking my way through the "Great Maze" in Subspace Emmisary. I really wanna unlock Sonic. I've been a fan since near the beginning of his comics and still pick them up once in a while. Anyways, I ended up playing that until about eleven and then my wife got up. Turns out she has a list of stuff we need to get done on our day off. Pick up groceries, mail taxes, delivery thank you cards, pick up propane, shop for other stuff, fire up and test BBQ. My afternoon was shot. No footbag. Oh well, maybe . . . MAYBE I'll play tonight.

OH! I have a PM! I never get those, I gotta go check it.

So last night after laying in bed for a while I decided I wasn't tired. I got up, drank a Boo-Koo (my curent favorite energy drink), and turned on the Wii. I "finished" the SSE and got Sonic. Then I went and played about 20 four-man brawls with him. I like him alot. I won the majority of them. I love doing repeated homing attacks where you never touch the ground and keep pounding your opponents. The best way to KO with him is the grab and throw. Other wise he doesn't have much launching power. His up special is great for saving your butt from falling.

I decided to work on classic mode and was feeling cocky so I put it on INTENSE mode. Oops. Not ready for that. Got to level 3 but couldn't progress. So I switched to Easy just to work through. That was no problem. I messed up when Toon Link challenged me though.

This game is awesome. And Mario Kart comes out soon! I won't be getting it for a while.

SNOW

It's April. The end of April. So why did I just miss two days of work for snow? I BBQ'd Saturday and Sunday morning I couldn't see my BBQ. I couldn't get my car out of the driveway. Monday I looked outside and called work. They were waiting for my call. Tuesday I attempted to go to work. Even got onto the highway. The highway was glare ice. I turned around at the first oppurtunity but got stuck trying to do so. I want summer.

I have had lots of time to play footbag, but never did. Too lazy and hooked on Brawl. After a weekend of using Sonic, I'm not sure if I can main him. I'd like to, as I love him, but the lack of KO potential is kinda scary. I'm gonna try it, but I dunno. It's like I play competively. I don't even play online! Back at work today . . .

Something else I did on my snow days was some reading. Generally all I read is Star Wars stuff. And my religious reading, but that doesn't count. So I read Darth Bane, Rule of Two. Great book. I don't know wheather it's Drew's writing style, or Bane's story, but I can't seem to put the Bane books down. The first book in the series, Path of Destruction, is the first book I haven't been able to stop reading. I was down in two days. I usually take two weeks to read a novel. Same thing happened with this book. I really like reading about the pre-movies time. Knights of the Republic wet my appetite for this timeline. When I finished I decided to start reading the Thrawn Trilogy. Somehow I have never read it, even though it's pretty popular. I'm not very far into the first book yet, but am liking it so far.

I played a game of Star Wars Mini's on Saturday and lost. I'm trying to figure out if my squad just wasn't good enough or if I played it wrong and could do better with it in another match. I think my biggest problem was that Josh brought out Cade Skywalker. He can do 80 damage to one person on every activation, while doing forty damage to each character adjacent to the target. He weeded out my lower characters because I underestimated splash and line of sight. I set up my squad so that Luke Skywalker, Champion of the Force could do 200 hp of damage in an activation. That's enough to take down anyone in the game. But I couldn't pull it off. He let me pretend to do it afterwards, and was really excited about the idea. He's seeing if he can get it set up with his figures.

I read Star Wars Rouge Squadron over the weekend. It's the first book in the X-Wing series. I didn't really like it, but am going to try and read the rest in the series so I have a better idea of what happened in the years they cover.

Good Morning Blog!

Yes, I'm talking to my blog. No, I'm not crazy. *shifty eyes*

I played footbag on the weekend! But only for about ten minutes. I wanted a longer session saturday afternoon, but once I started playing I just lost the drive. Didn't really hit much. It's possibly that's why I lost the drive. pixie>mirage>pixie>mirage>drop. I can only hit the first four contacts of my shred 30. I have no idea what I'll attempt for sick 1 or 3. Is there really any reason for me to go to ShrEdmonton? Especially since I'll only be going for one day? I'll go. And I'll train hard to do it. Since I'm nowhere near guiltless I'll one again be playing in the intermediate level. Meaning it should be an easy win. *sigh* I think I'm actually worse at this point than I was last year. Maybe I'll just go open for the hell of it. It's notl ike an intermediate win would do anything for me. On the footbag front, yesterday morning I was thinking about all this stuff I should try and was genuinely excited to play in the afternoon. But then I had like a three hour nap with my wife.

Then we had supper and she was looking at the guide and decided to wath Star Wars as it was on Spike. I couldn't leave after my wife chose to watch one of my favorite movies that up until recently she has shown little interest in. So I watched Star Wars with her. When it was over it was only 8:30 and I was like, ya . . . I can still play now. Just then, they showed a preview that Empire Strikes Back would be on next Sunday. Natel looks at me and says, "Wanna just watch it now?" I was torn. . .

Play footbag by self --- watch great movie with me wife and get her a little bit more into SW?

I watched the movie. She's even getting into the extended universe through the audio books we listen to on the drive to work. I think she really likes piecing together the things and characters that the movies alood to as we read the books. She actually showed an interest in some comics I was reading the other day. It's awesome

If you hadn't guessed by now, I am kinda a big Star Wars geek.
