"Is it best to have protein and carbs after a workout?Erik Chan wrote:I don't know anything either, but I read, or was told, or something, that it's best to have protein and carbohydrates after a workout (to renew your torn muscles?). I'm not interested in supplements or anything, and like I said I don't know anything, so I've been eating meat and whole grains after. Should I do something different?
Also I had heard the thing about working out when you wake before eating, and that it burns 300% more calories or something? But then I also heard that this doesn't work for cardio, just weight-training... something like that. Can you clarify?
I wanted less muscle before. Apparently I build up pretty well if I work out just a little bit. I didn't like being an Amazon woman. But now I feel like I'm losing too much strength. I want to get back into it some.jon wrote:If you do not use the muscles they will atrophy. Why would anyone ever want less muscle though?
Only getting your nutrients from crackers and butter for ten days in a row in itself is extremely restricting. In addition, running the entire time is going to require even more calories and proper nutrition. My guess is that a person following this diet and trying to do the race wouldn't last past day four. They simply wouldn't have the energy from those two substances.Tsiangkun wrote:For a 10 day race, is it feasible to eat a pound of butter and a handful of crackers each day ? Are there health consequences to such a diet, or is it okay for short term use ?
Yes. Muscle size can increase and decrease depending on the amount of blood in and around the muscle cells. If you are running and have large muscles, they will shrink temporarily so your cardiovascular system has the blood it needs to oxygenate the body. I recommend training a muscle or muscle group from 12-16 repetitions if your goal is muscular endurance and not size. Losing muscle with reduce your resting metabolic rate, or the number of calories you burn per day. Muscles run the show when it comes to metabolism. Is there any way to reduce muscle size besides getting your body to basically eat it's own muscle?
I can't diagnose this one Ken. There are many small muscles in the head, neck, and shoulder girdle. Keep in mind, a nerve problem is serious and is usually related with uncontrolled numbness or tingling, in which a neurologist should be brought in. A strain is when a muscle is pulled beyond its elasticity /flexibility, a sprain is when a ligament (bone to bone connective tissue) is pulled.C-Fan wrote:I recently pinched/strained a nerve in my neck, such that I cannot turn my head quickly to the left, and even when I turn my head slowly, it feels weird. What's the best way to recover? I took a few days off, and have started doing neck stretches, but I am curious if you advocate me eating anything in particular or taking more time off. Thanks Pee Wee.
This is the first time i've checked in on this part of the forum for quite a while, and the first time i've seen this thread. other than the little slip up above, Aaron you're doing a great job! Do you plan on taking your Kin degree into the education field? Seems like you have a knack for it.Maraxus wrote:A strain is when a muscle is pulled beyond its elasticity /flexibility, a sprain is when a ligament (bone to bone connective tissue) is pulled.
Hah, I guess that's what happens when you second guess yourself and hit post. lol. Thanks for the support man. I'm totally into fitness these days and loving helping other people out with at least as much information as I know.hacksterbator wrote:This is the first time i've checked in on this part of the forum for quite a while, and the first time i've seen this thread. other than the little slip up above, Aaron you're doing a great job! I'm not a vegan myself, or a nutritionalist, but good proteins without meat in them that I know would include:Xain wrote:Hi Aaron,
What are the best vegan proteins? How important is diversity of proteins?
I pretty much eat oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar on it with either eggs or whey for breakfast. My biggest recommendation is just eat something, the largest meal should be breakfast.Danny Petrick wrote:What's your breakfast routine, and if that's radically different from somebody who's NOT a bodybuilder, what would you suggest for someone else. Pretty much everywhere I look there's conflicting information at breakfast.
