My first footbag vid

Post by the_8_bit_kid »

Hey guys, heres my first vid after about 4 months of playing. Any criticisms and advice are most welcome! I know for starters that my game is a little one sided, especially with clippers etc. Mostly its since my flipside clippers are pretty useless at the moment but im drilling them to death to try and improve them so i can try and incorporate them into my freestyle :)
The vid also has one of my housemates in, doing a little dance representing how footbag looks to him!

Hey man, just watching briefly but I'll throw some more advice out your way.

From the looks of it (and hopefully a better player can help you out so take what I say with a grain of salt) you're double hopping to catch your toes/legovers/mirages so work on a single good hop :)

Also with your right foot clipper catch it high so you can cushion it more so (I have a nasty habit on my flipside of catch it low and basically kicking it up rather than pushing it up via delay)

I'll watch some more and throw some basic stuff your way, but odds are a better player with say something ^-^
Look a BLOG! That I never update

Not bad. You're right on the one-sided thing, but there are many worse new players. Don't worry too much, just keep practicing it.

The biggest problem that I noticed is your posture. Every player has somewhat of a hunch, otherwise we wouldn't be able to see the bag. Your's, however, is more pronounced and will probably be detrimental to the development of your game. Also, it doesn't look good. ;)

Mostly, just stand more straight up, and look down more with your eyes rather than your whole head.

Again, not bad. Just keep it up and I'm sure everything will even out just fine.

The room mate river dance is epic. tell him with moves like that he should be footbaging too.

Lookin pretty good! Definately better than where I'm at at the moment. I drilled for like 10 minutes today and lost all motivation. I find myself blaming my bag, because it couldn't be me and all my awesomeness that sucks at this sport.

Nice start to your footbag career. I agree with Zac that your posture should be corrected. Keep you back straight or even think of sticking your chest out a little if that helps. It may take some getting used to but it will help you in the long run.

Another recommendation I have is to practice catching the bag and standing still with it for a few seconds. In other words, do a right toe delay and hold it, get your balance, get control, then set and do a left toe delay. I find this easy for toe delays. Now move this same practice over to clipper delays. This is where people have trouble. It is not normal for us to stand on one leg with the opposite leg crossed behind it. Try catching a clipper delay and holding it for a few seconds, get your balance, get control, then set it back up either to your hand or to a toe delay. Once you can do this a few times without dropping or falling, try catching a clipper delay, holding it for a few seconds, then setting the bag up and catching it with the same clipper delay. You may need to do a little hop to regain your balance. That's fine so long as you don't drop the bag. What is most important here is that you make the clipper delay a comfortable position for your body to be in and a reliable delay.

Now go shred.

Hey guys, first thanks for the feedback,i feel ive got a lot to work on! I know about the problem with my posture. I have a kink in my back from when i was a young lanky school kid, constantly being told to lean forward so other people could see in class! Years of doing that seem to have given me realy bad posture all round, and its something im trying to sort, not only in footbag but in my everyday life.

More cushion on your delays would help; you seem to be starting the next move as you're finishing one. Try to have every delay be really solid, and every move feel like it's by itself.
