I got one of Trevor's good strings on film on Wednesday, but my stupid ass camera didn't auto focus so it's all blurry:

Here's how our session ended prematurely:

Who wants play Hacky Sack? I don't have shoes, but I have about a dozen facile 32 panel bags (in disrepair) from as many different stitchers. Maybe we can play "where the hell did this bag come from?" over a few beers afterwards. I miss you all.

Sam, it's so great to hear from you. I'm rebuilding my music collection, you should help. We just had a game night at Justin's house. Scott is a Dominion hustler and I won Fact or Crap by a hair. It would be cool to just hang out.

In footbag news Dan's been kicking great and there are a few of us still figuring out how to get out of the intermediate hole. Justin footed furious blender today.

I'm pretty sure we have the same size shoes (or close). I have an extra pair of both Quantum 3's and Lavers. They are yours if you wish to use them.

Getting motivated for footbag again. Starting to lean down after a long period of trying to bulk up. Played with some new fearless links this weekend trying to get to 15. Closest I got was 9. Time to start filming again.

A video for the blog. Hurray!
I have been fiddling with this video for a long time. I wasn't really sure I was going to finish it or publish it. I don't really like how my form looks, I go off camera a bit, I don't fit in some frames, and Mathias is not seen in all but one shot. Plus we filmed two angles which I thought would be a good idea at the time but made editing a total bitch, twice as much footage to go through and decide which angles to use. Plus I had a ton of trouble picking a song.
Lately though, with getting props from people on my first 10 fearless vid from last year, getting motivated for footbag, smoking less pot, all the prep we have been doing for USO, and finding a song that fit, it seemed time to get this done and start to work on my main video from last year involving all my good stuff.
I may do a quick video from Rory Dawson's last visit to Seattle first but we'll see. I'm just glad this video is done and I'm moving on.

Mainly just worked on drills last night. Was feeling pretty tired and didn't have the motivation to work on fearless or dense strings. Some drills I went through multiple times others just once.
barrage>leg beater rpt
step ss illusion>leg beater rpt
toe blur>toe blur
b whirl>dlo>paradon rpt
pdx dlo>drifter>dlo>drifter rpt
drifter>vortex rpt (did this one starting on both sides, I wanted to affirm I could get the flip vortex as a start and end of combo)
drifter>whirl>swirl rpt (4 times through)
blur>grifter>down rpt
dimwalk>gyro dlo rpt
33 ripwalks (tried for 50)
I think that's it. whoot.

Glad to see some much activity in the blogs.
Green Cup is coming up so I started working on my routine last session. Got through it 3 times, 1, 2, 2 drops.
I need to modify the song a little but it's feeling strong. Glad I worked so hard on this routine at the end of last year. It has made it really easy to come back to and it's a much better routine than last years.
This is feeling like it will be a weird year for footbag for me. I pushed so hard last year, and got to probably the best shape and best at footbag I've ever been. I worked so hard and was so consistent by the end of summer I was doing dropless 3 minute routines easily. This year I just don't know I have it in me to do it again. Since I'm running USO this year I don't know that I will have the chance to compete. My motivation is lacking, but I am looking forward to a fun year, non the less. Can't wait for Green Cup but other than that I don't have much pushing me to dial in my game. I haven't been busking as much so far this year either. Fun weekend coming up busking at U District street fair though and it's still very early in the 'footbag season.'

:(

If you need time to digest/process whatever happened at Green Cup, I understand. That said, I do recommend writing it all down at some point. At last year's USO, I went in with high expectations for routines (even took top seed into finals), and then felt crushed when it went badly and I finished 5th. But when I re-watched video of my routine and blogged about it all, it made me realize it wasn't as bad as I thought, and it helped me feel better about my performance. It ultimately made me re-evaluate how I prepare for routines/tournaments, which hopefully will pay off this year. I'm just saying it might be cathartic to put your thoughts on paper. In other good news, at least it didn't happen at a major (USO, Euros, Worlds), and it also didn't happen at your last tournament for the season. In exactly one month you'll get a chance to exorcise any demons with a good showing at USO. Use your Green Cup experience as fuel to kick ass at your next showing.

Regardless of anything else, I look forward to hanging out with you and shredding in a month. I hope you compete, and I'll be rooting for you if you do.

I got really drunk and banged up my good knee pretty bad on my birthday early in May. I haven't been able to whirl on my good leg for a while. Something about Cali (Green Cup) allowed me to use that whirl a bit, but I haven't been able to use it since. I been enjoying the opportunity to work on other aspects of my game. All the work I've put in in the last year on my density is starting to pay off. I'm really focused on my atomics and getting better at using blurry drifters since I can't use my normal 5's with whirls. Today was a really fun session at Alki beach.
Our logo and shirt design should be released tonight, and THEY ARE AMAZING.

Couple of things.
It is interesting after all these years complaining about my bad left knee that now it is my good knee while my right knee heals. I'm really enjoying this opportunity it is giving me to work on all the aspects of my game I have been neglecting while focusing on fearless and consistency. I've fixed my flip spinning and getting my flip tricks a lot better.
I'm trying to make sure I am getting some atomic moves into every string. I was using atom smasher much more easily that I ever have in density over this weekends last session. I got a couple drills:
open drifter>ripwalk>blur rpt
dlo>legbeater rpt
smear>atom smasher rpt
fog>smog bsos
Could not get blurry drifter>ripwalk rpt yet. I can step out of toe drifter but haven't quite figured out how to easily do it from blurry set.

Here's a little blog vid from my last Green Lake session. I think my last Alki session was better but didn't film. This at least gives me a good place to keep building upon. Still have some kinks in my game I'm trying to correct.

Predator both sides stood out the most to me, as did the smoke bsos. Looking good.

It's weird how sometimes an injury is a blessing in disguise, as it forces you to experiment with other components/concepts that you don't normally do. I'm glad to hear it's working out well for you.

Excited to shred and hang out in a couple weeks. I definitely also want to get in some basketball...if we could even get a 3-on-3 that'd be amazing.

Ever since Green Cup life has not been kind to ol' Justin. I got shingles over the Green Cup weekend, threw my back out working out, got my car stolen the week of USO, threw a good tournament but was devastated by some of the events following, threw my back out AGAIN and spent another week laying down, doing nothing and recovering, then got very sick as soon as my back got better. All over the course of about 8 weeks. I have played footbag maybe twice in that span of time and took almost a month off of the gym. The longest break for both in a long time. I've been doing my best to rehab my back and get back into shape to play. I am going to attempt my first session this Sunday. I am not looking forward to the uphill climb to get good at footbag again, but I am looking forward to the fun of casually playing, although I am a bit apprehensive about the state of my back and will be taking it slow. The silver lining in all this is my knees have had time to heal from feeling very injured lately.
Since, things have been looking up, I got my car back and got a big raise at my job and I can finally stand up straight again. I've been hitting the gym, back at yoga, and have been getting in my core exercises. I also finished the two video's I've had sitting around, the Pre Green Cup and a BlogVid below. It's from just after Green Cup before everything went south, basically the last video I have of me playing decent.
I think that's all I had to say at this time. Hope to have more videos soon and get back to the game I love...and to catch up on all the other blogs.

Props on making it through the gauntlet...sounds like it was brutal. I'm glad you're back on the up and up, and that at least you're recovering while the weather is still nice and playable outside. Also, thank you again for running such a good USO. I'd come in a heartbeat if you did it again next year.

Good luck on the comeback trail!
