Glad you enjoy them :D Unfortunatly, until i can get outdoors and play there wont be a whole lot of footage from me. I cant get a decent filming angle in my kitchen (aka my indoor spot) without knocking out a wall and moving it back about 5 feet.

It wont stop me trying though...

That's called Rev Up :P It's probably my favorite swirling trick. Props dude, Looked clean and looked like you had great control of it.

Edit: Maybe not favorite, but most fun to do ;)

I thought Twitch was twirling (Rev Swirling) Toe, Rev-Up is Rev Swirling Pickup.

Oh, you're right, it is rev swirling toe, after a second look. But Ian, you're not far at all from rev up. Watch some videos of it being done. Preferably this one:

I learned rev swirls from this very tutorial, and then about a month later, I learned rev up from it too. You'll hit it once you study the trick a little. It's such a butter trick for me now.

Hello blog...been a while....

Not a whole lot been happening from me footbag wise. I got into that "ill play tommorow" routine around January time, and never really got back out of it.

Its a shame because my catch-up sessions have reminded me what I could have been hitting right now. Last night I managed to hit my first ever 5 add (im not saying what.... more on that later :) ) and yeah it felt great, but by now I could have linked two 5s together, or hit a 6, or possibly even been able to consider myself a guiltless level shredder. What a shitter.....

Aaaanyways.... im back, and im back into a routine of "practicing" rather than just "playing". I can still nail open and stepping tricks mid string and bsos, whch im really happy about. Flip whirl seems to have totally escaped me, but ill find it again.

When i first started this blog I wrote
I love watching the freestyle vids that crop up on this forum, so im practicing that too, in hope that one day I can get a jaw dropping vid posted myself. Well I can but dream
Well, thats the dream i intend to realise this summer. Rather than rush out a lot of little clips, I want to make THAT video.... it may not drop jaws, and my camera sucks, but itll be my video, my achievements....

... and thats why Im not naming the 5 add :)

Ian! So happy you're playing again. If you wanna get good, here's the way to go... stop doing stepping, pixies, 5 adds, and whatnot, and go right back to your 1 adds & 2 adds. Drill the living crap out of those for a few weeks (every day if you can). I went back to solidify my basics this summer and I improved a lot after that. The only thing that got me to my level of guiltless play is drilling the very basics. TRUST ME, YOU WON'T BE SORRY. Looking forward to continue reading your blog.

Blah! Shortly after my last post, I got stung by a bee or a wasp, or some evil winged creature, right on the ankle. My ankle ended up about half as big again, to the point where even a short walk was uncomfortable.

Anyway, all better now, and ive taken Nicks advice, primarily because itll help me build some stamina again. Hit near > same > opp switch, mirage and pickup drills for well over a hundred contacts each. Illusion... mmm...not so many. Iv always struggled with it, having good days and bad. I figure ill work it earlier in my session next time while i have more energy and enthusiasm.

Ended the session trying random tricks and strings. Hit atomic down, then later atomic down > ducking butter. Linking multi component tricks is always fun, and atomic really works my stomach muscles, so I love trying them.

I did film during the session, but im on a freshly formatted laptop and for the life of me I cant remember what audio codec I need to install to get my vids to play back properly :/

These shoes were made for tennis,
But thats not what theyll do.
One of these days these shoes are gonna ripwalk over you....

The sun cleared, the ground dried, and I managed to get half an hour to play for the first time in, ooooo, too long. Typing this while the sweat still drips from my forehead, which as weird as it sounds is something Ive missed.

Missed y'all!

Quick video post more than anything. Have cleared out two shred spots in my back yard now, one indoor for winter, and one outside. Spent the vast majority of my 1 hour 30 session working on clippers. Flip clipper was always a problem for me. I could duck strong side 9 times out of ten, but could barely get the bag waist height on the flip. Illusions and pickup are next on my "nail them down" list.

Hooray for hitting new concepts! Couldn't get the sauce, but I had so much fun with it last night, I'm going to put pickup/illusions to the side for a while and keep with clippers, gyro and ducking. Yes, I know, its not strictly following the footbag curriculum, but hey - having fun comes first!

Incidentally, I told Nick i liked Gyro so much because "its like your saying "wheres-it-gone... Ahh there it is" if that makes any sense". Nick, I don't think you quite grapsed what I meant by that so I'll elaborate (purely because it gives me reason to pad out this otherwise sparse post :D ) The reason I like gyro, and in the same respect a few other tricks, is that when timed right to a piece of music, the trick can.... how to put it.... sing that part of the song? tell a story? its hard to explain, but i see it in videos a lot, most recently in Ken's little masterpiece "Upular" (props to you for your performance at USO BTW :) ). Intentional or not, there's a couple of spots where Ken ducks, and it coincides with that moment in the music so well, you almost get this impression that the bag is singing that little piece of the music as it passes over his head. Gyro is one of those components that can fit well to a piece of music so well too. I like how quick and snappy it can be, and when accompanied by the right drumbeat at just the right moment in a song, can compliment that moment so well.

Well... I just read that back to myself and even Im left scratching my head a little, so if you've made it this far through my ramblings, I thank you :) If it makes sense to you, even better, we're on the same wavelength and should definitly go for a beer sometime.

Oh and thank you to Marco as well! The material is most appreciated, you'll see some stunning examples of UK produced footbags soon :)

There must be other people in the UK (myself, Andrew, Nick and Matt aside) who have heard of, or who play footbag. Or even "that other kicking game whos name is trademarked and cannot be repeated". I find myself on youtube, regularly typing phrases such as "Footbag UK" and ordering the results by upload date, just to see if anything is sneaking through my tightly wound net, but nothing. I want to be Nick Polini, I want so many people texting my phone saying "hey, i just hit [insert trick here]" that I consider getting my number changed. Blah.......

Session hilights from last night:
 Gyro Osis, BS. Strong side gyro clipper is qucikly becoming a "hit it once in every two tries" trick now, so im expanding it into other concepts. Flip side is still a bit wayward, not so much because of the set but because I struggle to keep my upper body in check, often ending up stooped over with my arms flailing

 Cloud Stalls to Osis / Clipper. Just because they look fun.

I think Clavens is in London now, with plans to play with Mat Bailey. You should get in touch with them if you can.

Yep, first session already happened this week. There was an English bloke that lived in Australia for a while, he was more of a net player. We kicked a few times in 2007 in Melbourne. From the top of my head I can't remember his name, but I will see if I can find his info on footbag.org.

I know how you feel though - it would be great if people were so stoked on the sport, harassing you to play, it's great that Nick has really built that vibe in his area.
