playing on that bright yellow one the day after the freestyle party was killing my eyes. i they would water up every time i looked down. i did like the cushyness though. one was kinda slippery, and the bright clor through me off a little, but i think they are a good idea. maybe a mat surface to avoid the sun glare and to help out those of us who had a few too many the night befor?

:D yeah. thats why i couldn't shred with you, andrew!
those pavigym mats (4pieces = 4mx4m) costs about 200€ without shipping taxes. but i think i'll manage to have a kind of "shredmats" for the next summer (2005). maybe with the support of planetfootbag and if its possible we are gonna sell them with a special bag to carry it. you'll be able to buy them on internet or at big tournaments. work in progress...

Hmm... I'm looking to make a shred mat for my garage(slippery floor!) for when it's too windy or raining... Something that I can put down that will not slide on the floor, has a bit of cushion, and that is available commonly at big hardware stores. Does anybody know of any relatively inexpensive materials that might work good?

Ryan Thomas uses a nice rug that he sports in a lot of videos. It's just a big rug. It doesn't move. It stays put. And I guess when you're done you can roll it up.

The "planetfootbag" mats are the best to shred on that I know. And I'm only saying that because I was the one who chose them:)

but honestly, they are made from professional gym flooring, absorb about 60% of the shock on impact without robbing you of energy for the bounce. they're 2.5x2.5m which is big enough to shred on more or less comfortably (only the player shredding should stand on it the rest should step off to give room) and not too big as to not be transportable any more. they only get slippery if you sweat on them excessively or if they get real dirty. color is an issue, the yellow ones do glare when you play in sunlight, on the other hand if you play in less well lighted places the color is an advantage. vice versa is the case for the blue ones.

for me they have been the best for my knees, hips and back. playing outside on concrete has always killed my joints, the mats have solved that problem.

of course they're hell expensive (about US$800), at least in switzerland, where everything is hell ecxpensive. but luckely we got 6 mats sponsored for the last years footjam (and not by planetfootbag, they don't have that kind of money unfortunately), so we have a big enough supply to last us a while.

i heard the same mats cost about $100 in poland, so you might want to check a carpet/flooring specialist near you for the prices.

the material is actually called "taraflex" and made by a company called "gerflor" www.gerflor.com

also never had problems with slip except when dirty or wet...or when i had dirty soles...

as i said, the mats are made out of the best athletic flooring available, specially designed for indoor sports. if you check the gerflor.com webpage you'll see that they make the official floors for all kinds of sports like badminton, table tennis and even sepak takraw. but like with all indoor sports floors its important to have clean shoes and keep the floor itself clean too.

i remember karim also didn't like playing on them at first and now he even uses them in the gym to play on...kenny also didn't like them as much, but mainly because he has a lot of lateral travel in his game and they were too small and the mats itself moved around a lot when he played on them:)

I just buy a cheap carpet at a big store for like $20-40 and it's about 6by 8 feet and 2 of those snug against each other are perfect.

Very helpful on saving your shoes' soles and your knees.
