Early Tricks

Post by marc »

I'm just starting out... I can hit a legover, around the world on both sides, and I've hit mirage a few times. What are some other basic tricks I can work on ?

Clipper

Learn clipper both sides, it's one of the harder things to master on both sides, but once you do, your game can only take off.

Try learn a lot of the 2 adds on both sides. Then after that you could try butterfly.

These moves are fundamental elements of more advanced moves. You will want these dialed before you progress:
Mirage and Illusion
Legover and Pickup
Clipper

These are probably less important later on but easier to master and add variety to your tiltless game:
Around the World In and Around the World Out
Pixie and Fairy

Erik, I think pixie and fairy are very important as sets later on in your game. But I agree with all the moves you listed to practice.

And Marc, remember to practice on both sides.

So far everyone's given you a ton of toe move stuff, which is important, but will limit your game if you don't give due time to cliiper setting moves.

It would be a great idea to work on Clipper set mirages, pickups, and legovers as well.

To train the clipper stal do inside stals and then wrap them around ur support leg to the clipper posistion, hold it there, then unwrap. try doing consecutive clippers and alternating. however, when performing these drills there is a distinct "magic" hop. you sort of fall into your clippers with a light jump, landing on your support leg while your catch leg lifts and stals the bag. Too many times have I seen noobs do clippers with unbalanced support legs/odd hops that dont make them as smooth as they should be.

Flying Clippers an d Dragonflys.

Start skooling flyers early, if only a little at a time, so that they don't feel really awkward later. Don't limit your game to dexing stalls.

you could also try butterfly kick if you want to work on your flyers, butterfly kick isn't that much harder for me than dragonfly...
