Heh, thats good that you were able to calm down and come back down to earth. :)

Anyways, yes, i agree that baby steps are the answer, but do you know how frickin hard that is? Rarely do i not try to bust a large trick during my sessions either...

Well, glad you've got your mind back on track. TTYL bud

Well, my first "easy - going" session. It was pretty fun, actually.

It lasted for about two and a half hours. I was able to go pretty long and not get tired, primarily because I wasn't doing hard tricks. Toward the end of the session, I was working on inspinning. I can do it - but only out of Osis. I also hit a few combos that I've never hit before (believe it or not), so that was good.

Diving Clipper > Ducking Clipper rpt
Spinning Clipper > Ducking Clipper rpt
Ducking Osis > Ducking Osis bs
Spinning Osis > Ducking Clipper > Ducking Clipper bs (was going for rpt)
Spinning Osis > Inspinning Osis (strongside)

My shins haven't been giving me problems. I feel them, but it's a real dull, annoying pain then anything. I'll do some stretches tonite before I go to bed.

9:26 am, August 1

Well, not much to write about. I didn't really shred that much in the last few days. Actually, my only real session was last nite at 12:40 pm. I wouldn't really say much - I was a bit tipsy and so I'm not sure how I progressed. My friend came over that day, and we bonged a beer and took vodka shots. I think I had the equivalent of around... 6 - 8 shots? It was a fun nite full of Risk (I should've crushed him when I had the chance :(:(:(:( )and some nintendo action - some games never get old.

Anyways, last nite's session. I basically went over Symp Whirls for a bit, and a bit of stepping sets and some spinning. I tried Symp Whirls, and really focused on landing on the balls of my feet and all I have to say about that is wow. So much difference! I land softer and am able to absorb all that shock so much easier, and as for delaying the bag - it just works out so much better. Since my support leg absorbs so much more shock, the delay tends to absorb the bag that much more making the set out of the trick so much more controlled. I'm going to being doing that a hell of a lot more once my shins heal (but in moderate amounts).

As for the highlight of the session, I hit Smear > Butterfly > Pdx Mirage (rpt) within a few attempts. I'm getting pixie sets back finally! After months of neglection they are finally coming back.

I hope to have a good shred today. I guess I'll be working on what I did on Friday and hope to beat some personal records. If my shins don't act up, I would like to try doing a bit more 'stressful' tricks (ie work on stepping sets again). We'll see.

Alrighty...

So yesterday's shred session went decent. I did a lot of Blender work, and finally realized what I was doing wrong all this time. So, by the end of the session I was doing some Pdx Blender tricks and a few spinning. They were:

Weakside Spinning Pdx Blender & Spinning Diving Butterfly
Food Processor
Spinning Pdx Symple Blender
Spinning Zulu Butterfly

I was close to Gangsta Party both sides, but I don't think I'll go for it any time soon. My Spinning Pdx Blenders could use more work.

I also had a short session in the evening, which yielded not as much success. Not much to post about it.

Now, moving on to today's session. It was +25 degrees (celsius) outside, with barely any clouds in the sky with a bit of wind, which felt really nice. I was out there for about 3 hours, and for most of that time I was drilling Swirls. Considering I could only do swirls about 2/5 times at the beginning, I think I made quite a bit of progression. They are still akward for me, but I'm starting to get the hang of them.

Here is the list of the highlights:

Butterfly Swirl bs
Whirling Swirl bs
Butterfly > Swirl > Butterfly > Swirl
Ducking Clipper > Swirl bs
Spinning Clipper > Swirl > Butterfly > Spinning Clipper > Swirl > drop

As Chris May mentioned in his blog, we have a competition going to see who can hit the first Whirling Swirl. He actually did hit the first one, but seeings how he even admitted to it being thin, the competition was still on. Now, what sucks is that my camera was soo incredibly low on batteries that I was only able to get one Whirling Swirl on video which turned out to be pretty horrible. The Swirl was extremely thin - I would go as far as saying it's 'the'. Ah well. I hit it on both sides so that should atleast say give me a bit of leeway with Chris

I'll probably do some more Swirl work later, and hopefully work on more Ducking/Diving Clippers while I'm at it. Those are pretty hideous as well.

Another session, another post in the ole blog.

It was another Swirl session tonite, and it turned out awesome in my opinion. I hit some more combinations that included Swirls, and also a new trick - Whirr. Oh yeah!

I'm getting more comfortable with the motions of Swirls, though I sometimes question the legitimacy of some of them. I wish I had batteries for my camera so I could check, but for now I guess I shouldn't worry about that. Learn the motion, then master the trick.

Here are the combinations that I hit tonite. I want to hit them back to back if possible, but that will come with more practice. For now, I'm just happy to have been able to perform them on both sides.

Drifter > Swirl bs
Osis > Swirl bs
Whirl > Swirl bs
Ripwalk > Swirl bs
Swirl > Whirl bs
Swirl > Blender bs

What a good day. I can't believe that I'm starting to do Swirls. All this time I thought I just wasn't built right to perform them, but now I see that I'm catching on to them rather quickly. I'm going to be going over them a lot, seeings how they aren't hard on my shins at all and, when performing them after any trick, are such a good way to practice keeping the bag under control. I want to try and get Drifter > Swirl drilled, then see how many consec Drifters I can do.

As for my new trick - Whirr - it felt so good. It felt real clean, and the catch was solid. I would always do a few attempts at it in between drilling Swirls (as a short break) throughout the nite, and just before my parents came back from their walk I hit it. Then when they did come back, I hit it following a Butterfly first attempt. They both gave me props for it, which felt even better.

Needless to say, I'm in a good mood right now. To be honest, the shin pains may be a blessing in disquise. If I didn't have them, I know I wouldn't be having the success with the Swirls (and because I was thinking of Swirling moves, Whirring Swirl came to mind and that's when I decided to try Whirr). While I'm talking about shin pains, mine are getting better. It's a dull pain after sessions, which I can tolerate. I'm doing a lot of sitting toe raises (not too sure what they are callled, but they were recommended by Ian), and doing stretches that target my calves. I need to find more stretches, however, just because I can't remember them all and need to start doing the ones that target the general area where my pain is. I've also been drinking more 1% milk then I usually do (probably about 1L a day) for the protein to help build up the muscle. The only thing I could be doing better is more sleep, but now that the weekend is over and work starts tomorrow I'll try and get atleast 7 hours a nite.

In any event, that was my evening and a short summary of how my shins are doing. Hopefully they won't last too long, but I guess that depends on the decisions I make. If anybody else has suggestions on what I can do, please feel free to drop a comment in. Thanks :)

Not much of a session tonite. It was the 'calm before the storm' type evening, with cloud cover and thunder in the distance. The mosquitoes were awful, I couldn't stand for 30 seconds without getting atleast two bites.

I didn't really do much. I got Whirr on video, but I should have warmed up more before doing so. My looked at my Swirls. My strongerside (right foot) Swirls seem alright, but the other side are not. I don't extend my leg out far enough to do a complete dex over the bag. Instead, I set it, then almost tuck my leg in while performing the motion, then extend my leg back to catch. Doesn't work

So, I'll be watching some videos of people doing Swirls and see if I can learn a thing or two. So far I see that they keep their legs close together (almost like the Swirling knee is touching the back of the knee of the support leg). That's about all I could gather. More practice :)

The only advice i can offer:

Clip set (don't try to set and swirl at the same time unless you're trying swirling set) > bring foot behind the bag, raise on your support toes at the moment that your foot is going exactly over the top of the bag to give you maximum clearance > swing your foot back under the bag as quick as possible, but with as great of control as you can do!

Don't worry, my flipside sucks.

Thanks for the tips Chris :)

In the past two days, I haven't hadn't done much. Yesterday I went and saw 'The Village' at the movie theaters. Good movie in my opnion. Then tonite I went with my family to the park and hung out with another family who is staying there for the nite (long time friends of my parents). When we were there I busted out a few tricks, but couldn't do much seeings how I was on gravel and kept losing my balance on everything. I think the biggest trick I hit was Scorpion's Tail.

Anyways, that's what has been goin down over here. I feel like going to watch 'The Village' again. It was creepy at first, but after the twist ending all things creepy about it just vanished. Ah well, it had a real good story behind it and deep meaning, which I liked as well. But still... more creepiness would've been good too ;)

So I had a session today since last Monday. It felt good, very good. I think I started at around 1:30ish and decided to stop at 5.

I basically went over everything I could think of. Started off working on some 2 adds for warm up, and then progressed to the tricks that I wanted to drill. Worked a bit on stepping, fairy, pixie and atomic sets (the atomic sets could have been better, but everything else was decent). Spinning and inspinning went decent, as did Torques and double downs. I also hit two new tricks - Diving Down Double Down & Diving Double Over Down. I had Diving Blackula off my foot the first three attempts at it, but I decided not to over do it (for my shins sake).

Something that really wasn't expected happened too. For shits and giggles I decided to try Barroque again. First few attempts I hit it. So, I get out my camera in the hopes I can do it again. Bam, Barroque sealed to handcatch. Then again. Then again. Then again. It was crazy. Then I couldn't hit it for a while, but on my last attempt of the day I hit a pretty clean one (probably one of my best ones). It's hard to tell if the last dex was good - I think it was a bit thin but I was happy with it.

That's about all that really went down today. Like I said, I just basically went over a lot of things. Hopefully I can have another session tonite if my legs feel up for it.

So I had another 1.5 hour session tonite, starting from 8:30 and ending at 10. For the most part I just went over Ducking Clippers, spinning, pixie sets Torques, some stepping and some Swirls at the end.

The highlight of this session was probably the 14 (actually I think it was 15 since I did another Butterfly at the end, but meh) that I posted in the 'New Runs' section of modified. For those of you who are too lazy to check it out, it went like this:

Spinning Clip > Ducking Clip > Osis > Butterfly > (rpt) > Ducking Clip > Osis > Butterfly > (rpt)

That's when I was drilling Ducking Clippers, and I think I had some success with it. My main problem that I spotted with Ducking Clippers is that I set it too horizontally - by the time I go to catch the bag it is usually just a bit out of reach. It gets annoying, but now that I know the problem I'm working on fixing it up.

My shins felt pretty good today. They didn't give me any troubles, which was really nice. I'm still going to take it easy on all the symposium and stepping tricks (though I wish my stepping was a lot better). No hurry I guess, I have a lot of other things to go over.

So I didn't shred today. It wasn't that my legs were too sore (they were sore, but nothing an extended warm up couldn't fix) but rather an "enflamed armpit of death".

What happened was when I woke up this morning I felt a bit of an irritation in my armpit underneath my left arm. I didn't take much notice, and went on as usual. Then I made the fatal mistake when I put on pit stick before my session. Well, that little irritation must've been some of the skin that got opened up and when I put the deoderant on it hurt. So for the entire day, it felt like my armpit caught fire whenever I raise/lower my arm. It blows. As soon as it goes away (which I don't think will be too long) I'll be back at it.

And as a final thought to end tonite's blog entry - I don't want to go to work tomorrow, I don't feel like getting up at 6 (am) and I don't feel like getting in anymore crap from my boss. You gotta love work :P

Starship. Byrin Wylie... reporting... had a... session... It was... pretty good. I need... to get more... rest. Legs... felt restless... but forced... them to go... through 1.5.... hours... of torture.

[/WilliamShatner]

Alrighty then. My legs didn't feel like kicking tonite, but I had a session anyways. It started out slow, they didn't want to do much but by the end of the session I think it turned out alright. The highlights:

- Torque > Ripwalk (hit on one side, footed on the other)
- Pdx Torque > Pdx Blender off the foot
- Blender > Pdx Blender (one side, it was an off day for my weakside Blender)

My weakside Blender was just that - weak. However, tonite that same leg was also my strong Pdx Blender - strange. But, nonetheless, progress. I really should be dedicating more time to drilling those new tricks. That's what I really should be doing. Yeah - word to my homie. If my legs feel as restless as they were today, tomorrow then it'll be hard.

But in any event... I'm lazy and tired and don't feel like writing much more. Take care :)

Hey look! Godzilla!

...

Now that I got your attention, I may begin. I didn't have a session tonite. Nope, I'm a bit drained from work. Started at 7:30 (as usual) but I didn't get back home until 7:50. To boot, it was so hot outside (it was supposed to be 26 degrees celsius but... it felt hotter). Fricken work. It makes me look forward to school. Senor year will kick ass :D

So anyways... umm... uncomfortable silence...

Hey look!! Godzilla!!

Well, I had a session.

Not too much came out of it. I realized why my stepping sets haven't been doing that well lately - I haven't been setting it hard enough. I dex the bag fine, it's just the height that I had issues with. Simple error, I know but it feels like before I could barely put any effort into the set and it would still be adequate.

I think the highlights of this session were:

- Came close to hitting Mobius > Torque bs
- Whirlwind on bs
- Came close to Mobius > Pdx Blender
- Pdx DLO bs (not a new trick, but it's been a while)
- went over double downs
- Blurry Whirl first attempt on bs

Yeah, that about sums up my session. Doesn't seem too bad by the looks of the list, but it honestly didn't feel like it went well. I kept dropping Mobius, and my form for Torques was horrible. So much more to work on still...

And I'm looking forward to tomorrow. It's supposed to be 29 degrees (celsius). I'll be in the sun for +8 hours, sitting on a lawn-mowing tractor cutting grass all that time. With that said, I think I need more sun screen :?

It was a scorcher Chris :?

But anywho, I finally kicked today since... Wednesday. Man it felt good. Last nite I filled my footbag with more sand and all I have to say is wow. I'm almost certain that my footbag was the reason why I haven't been able to do much. With more sand in it, I felt my game suddenly rocket uphill. Thank goodness!

But back to my sessions. The first one lasted from around 2 pm - 4 pm at a local fair. I was on some boards, which absorbed shock real well. It felt good - I basically worked my atomic sets and ended up coming soooo close to hitting the Rubberman drill.

As for my second session, it lasted from about 8 pm - 10 pm. I went over Smears, Drifters, DLOs, Symp Mirages and Ducking Mirages a lot. They are starting to come around, which is real nice because I'm getting tired of strings that consist solely of Butterfly, Osis and Pdx Mirage. I think this was a real good drilling session, and I felt a sense of accomplishment when I decided to call it quits.

Another day, another session.

My legs were sore today from all the atomic work, but I did have a session at roughly 8:40 pm that lasted for about an hour and twenty minutes. For the most part I was drilling Illusions like a mad man, making them leggy and doing the dex higher (was aiming to do them above the waist) in the hopes that I will someday be able to do Eggbeaters. It turned out pretty well. I don't have a weakside when it comes to leggy Illusions, but I did catch myself performing Flails on my strongside rather then Illusions, which was weird. Nonetheless, I think the only thing I need to work on is the speed of the dex and I'll have it. My Symple Legovers could also use work, but I think they'll come more quickly.

At the end of the session I decided to try quantum sets. I hit Tripwalk (Toe Ripwalk = Quantum Butterfly) twice, an accomplishment seeings how I haven't been able to hit that trick in over 6 months and my sets are still extremely inconsistant. I still can not do a set on my weaker side - my leg is too slow and I always end up doing the motion underneath the bag instead of over top. Hopefully one day I'll be able to get those down.

However, while I was doing (attempting is more like it) quantum sets it seems I may be working my legs a bit hard - a dull pain has come back in my shins whenever I attempted an atomic/quantum set after about 20 minutes. It only hurts when I perform those sets, so I think I'll just shy away from them for a few days and start up the calf exercises again.

But anyways... tomorrow is Monday... dreaded Monday. I can't wait, the first place I go to mow grass is in the local cemetary. Fun stuff

Bleh, can't believe I forgot about this...

I beat an old record on my first attempt.

26 contacts of:

Butterfly > Pdx Mirage > Butterfly > Whirl > Osis > Pdx Mirage

I want to strive for 36 contacts sometime... hopefully soonish.

Andrew - It works well for me, I do it as the last part of my warm up. My next string I want to hit is:

Ducking Mirage > Symp Mirage > DLO > Smear > Drifter > Drifter > Pdx Mirage rpt

Still a ways until that happens

Anyways, I had a good session tonite. It started a bit slow in the beginning (especially the warm up), but thankfully I kept a positive mind set. For the most part I went over Smears, Drifters, DLOs, Symp Mirages and Ducking Mirages again (for future reference I will say they are foundation tricks 2 :P ). That went pretty well. I beat my old Drifter consec record - it is now 9! Word! I was very pleased with myself on that one. I almost had Drifter > Pdx Drifter on bs, which was good too considering I haven't gone over Pdx Drifters in a good few weeks.

After doing DLO, an idea struck me - what if I did a Flail instead of a Symple Legover after the Mirage? It sounded crazy at first, but once I started thinking about it I realized that if I became good at these then DLO should be a breeze. Well, low and behold, I hit it without too much difficulty. "Wow" I thought to mysel. "Now... could I do a spin before that?"

Some attempts later and yes, I could infact do a spin making the trick a Gyro Miraging Pdx Flail. That got me pretty excited as well. Afterwards, I tried doing putting toe sets in front (atomics are the onyl thing that has been good for me lately), but that didn't work though I did come close on my first attempt with the baggy shrots I was wearing. Soon after, I hit Miraging Pdx Flail and tried Pdx Miraging Flail (which will be soon). At the very end of the session, I tried Blurry Miraging Flail with not much success. My closest attempt yielded a missed catch and a the'd Symp Illusion. Ah well, I haven't done stepping sets in a while so I didn't expect to hit it anyways.

I also worked my Illusions again tonite. Boy, they are coming along nicely. I can do them high - real high now. If I were standing then the dexterity would be done at my boobie height (I told Kevin shoulder height, but upon closer inspection it seems it is a tad lower). So leggy, so fun to do. The speed is coming along, and soon I hope to be able to do some Egg - beating  .

Anywho, it's 11:20ish and I need to start getting more sleep. 6 hours of sleep just isn't cutting it :(
