Another session, another post in the ole blog.
It was another Swirl session tonite, and it turned out awesome in my opinion. I hit some more combinations that included Swirls, and also a new trick - Whirr. Oh yeah!
I'm getting more comfortable with the motions of Swirls, though I sometimes question the legitimacy of some of them. I wish I had batteries for my camera so I could check, but for now I guess I shouldn't worry about that. Learn the motion, then master the trick.
Here are the combinations that I hit tonite. I want to hit them back to back if possible, but that will come with more practice. For now, I'm just happy to have been able to perform them on both sides.
Drifter > Swirl bs
Osis > Swirl bs
Whirl > Swirl bs
Ripwalk > Swirl bs
Swirl > Whirl bs
Swirl > Blender bs
What a good day. I can't believe that I'm starting to do Swirls. All this time I thought I just wasn't built right to perform them, but now I see that I'm catching on to them rather quickly. I'm going to be going over them a lot, seeings how they aren't hard on my shins at all and, when performing them after any trick, are such a good way to practice keeping the bag under control. I want to try and get Drifter > Swirl drilled, then see how many consec Drifters I can do.
As for my new trick - Whirr - it felt so good. It felt real clean, and the catch was solid. I would always do a few attempts at it in between drilling Swirls (as a short break) throughout the nite, and just before my parents came back from their walk I hit it. Then when they did come back, I hit it following a Butterfly first attempt. They both gave me props for it, which felt even better.
Needless to say, I'm in a good mood right now. To be honest, the shin pains may be a blessing in disquise. If I didn't have them, I know I wouldn't be having the success with the Swirls (and because I was thinking of Swirling moves, Whirring Swirl came to mind and that's when I decided to try Whirr). While I'm talking about shin pains, mine are getting better. It's a dull pain after sessions, which I can tolerate. I'm doing a lot of sitting toe raises (not too sure what they are callled, but they were recommended by Ian), and doing stretches that target my calves. I need to find more stretches, however, just because I can't remember them all and need to start doing the ones that target the general area where my pain is. I've also been drinking more 1% milk then I usually do (probably about 1L a day) for the protein to help build up the muscle. The only thing I could be doing better is more sleep, but now that the weekend is over and work starts tomorrow I'll try and get atleast 7 hours a nite.
In any event, that was my evening and a short summary of how my shins are doing. Hopefully they won't last too long, but I guess that depends on the decisions I make. If anybody else has suggestions on what I can do, please feel free to drop a comment in. Thanks
