Forward or Reverse Swirls ?

Post by HooD »

Just a simple poll about which way you perform your swirls strongest, forward or reverse ?

I've been doing reverse swirls quite strong for a while now, but I'm going to add foward swirls in more, I find it so much easier to do my reverse swirl motion. I don't ever think I could do a reverse swirl set, a swirl set is very reasonable.

I do nearly all my forward swirls symposium or symple. I do most reverse swirls non symple/symp. So I voted for forward swirls just because they impress me more than my reverse swirls.

As I learned swirl, I found that the reverse swirl motion was easier, but now that I'm more experienced with swirls I find the forward swirl motion easier. I think that the forward swirl motion is harder to learn, but once youve learned it, it becomes the easier one of the two.

I'm a little confused.

A swirl is a back swirl. A reverse swirl is a forward swirl...

O yeah...true jeremy...

Yeah, swirl is back, rev swirl is front:

Anyways, i voted for the "non reverse swirl" simply because i have practiced them more. I find i have more control over them than reverse swirls.

No, a swirl is forward and a reverse is back. Why else do you think that double back is called "revstein" as in reverse?

Are you trying to say that every swirl trick at footbag.org is wrong and I've been confused about swirls forever? I note that Ellis Piltz is also wrong - because he continues to label videos of people hitting swirls the wrong way round.

To clarify - a swirl where you bring your foot behind the bag, over it, back down infront of it and then stall it is usually in my experience called a swirl and if someone performs a lets say a butterfly version of this it's written something like this - clip>same in>op swirl (back)>same clip

A swirl where you bring your foot infront of the bag, up over it, down behind it and under it to stall is in my experience called a reverse swirl and a butterfly version of it is usually written like this: clip>same in>op swirl (front)>same clip.

Freestly notation has always been about the direction the foot goes in to begin with - hence an "in dexterity" is always one where you bring your foot inwards first and then outwards. A back swirl is a swirl where you start by going backwards (relative to the direction you are facing and the bag) while a reverse/frontwards/forwards swirl is one where you begin by moving the dexing leg infront of the bag - the first action is forwards!!

I think the confusion may be in the difference between forward and front.
Front swirl refers to jobs notation of swirl from front to back or a reverse swirl. A forward swirl referse to the feel of a swirl, a forward motion of the foot.

Ah, I see what you mean. It's just a misunderstanding in description. You're technically right. Everyone knows the difference between a swirl and reverse. We've always called it the other way because we generally saw the dexterity in a swirl being forward. You had to go and bring jobs into it  This is the first time I've even looked at jobs for swirl.

I used to just have swirls on one side really easy, and far butterfly (symple) swirls both sides. Now I don't really have swirls very well on either side, but I still have the symple ones, and I also have rev swirls and a bunch of rev swirling moves both sides. Which is weird... i guess I should work on getting my swirls back.

Matt, were you not trying swirling ducking at world's?

I can normal swirl as of two days ago, thus I am allowed to comment in this thread.

swirls are weird for me... I've set them to head height a few times, but I can't just do them midstring any more... I guess I have just haven't worked on it in a while.

Swirling ducking is insane!!

I guess I find reverse swirl easier, although I think they're both about equal at the moment.

hi there just to add my drop... i counted for reverse, those who s seen me play know why..
i think i came up with the word :revstein:- i was probably not the first one to hit it but i was waiting for other with that trick on the video and nobody replied so i named it revstein-after reverse ripstein..
regural ripsteins are much harder for me..the motion feels better but the final execution is one of my recent issues...
i ll try to videotape some attempts.. cannt wait to step into the shred circle again....
