Abshire, Holton, Chad back in the day... girls who don`t bust will appear on video if they are wearing a bikini and do a toe stall.
Dude.
You have been to SoCal.
You find me a woman on the boardwalk wearing "appropriate clothing" to appear on video, and I'll agree that the reason the girl is on the vid was the bikini.

A lot of people outside of So Cal don't understand that's what people dress like, the girl is on vid because she did a toe stall, not because there is only one or two hot women walking around in bikinis.

Relax, It's not a bad thing to have people think you're a sexy muther fucker.

I say ask permission. That's going to be my policy whenever I take footage now.

It all just boils down to respect. And it is respectful to ask permission before filming, because for whatever reason if they don't want to be filmed, then they should have the right to make that decision. I also think that if this footage is going to be sold it is only fair that the people making appearances in the film will get something for it.

And for the amount of time it would take for someone to simply ask "Do you mind if I film you?" there really is no reason why you shouldn't.

We're all friends, just respect eachother.

This issue came up after CSS 3 or 4, I can't remember which one. I was filmed several times shredding during the tournament and I could have cared less. I play footbag mostly for myself, but I also play to be seen by other people and I know most of the people that are pointing the camera at me so I trust them. But there were also a few instances where people I did not know very well were filming me (and others) while I was just standing there talking to a friend or eating or some shit like that. I found this really irratating. Seriously, just let me eat my fucking sandwich. It would be different if it was a good friend just goofing around, but it was people I hardly knew.

Yeah that sounds sick!

As I said in the other thread - it's just nice. If you respect the person you are filming and you want them to respect you then you should ask. They might end up not liking you if you film them without permission and then put it on the net or sell it for billions of dollars or something.

In my eyes this is a strange discussion! You´re making an elephant out of an mosquito:( Well i´m no PRO footbagger and i don´t have any aims beeing the best player in the world, so maybe i just can´t understand some oppinions, i´m sorry for this.
did you ever see someone from TV asking some olympic players if they wanna get filmed, while warming up? i think this is so ridicoulous!
i read some arguments, that players can´t concentrate while they get filmed, then those players can say: "please don´t film me". i think nobody would go on and film... there will always be 2 sides who are able to bring up their point of view!
i really ask myself for what reason someone shouldn´t be filmed!
you´re at a public place, where you show yourself and so you´ll have the risk to be seen... and even been filmed or photographed... if you don´t wanna be seen, just play at your house, nobody will take any pictures of you.
if you´re ashamed or have "secrets"(what is the most ridicoulous thing i ever heart of) go somewhere else, every city has it´s unseen places... but don´t blame any filmmakers for "doing their job/hobby"!
in my eyes, it´s a totally different point of view when people wanna sell their video! i don´t understand why you should sell a footbag video anyway. footbag is a community, so nobody should pay for a video which ain´t professional done.
if you wanna do a professional video, you will need to ask the players who you wanna have in the video, because a professional video takes much more than just filming, but sadly most footbag filmers don´t even know that.
I agree with asking people if you wanna sell a video, but in no other case you need to ask, as long as you´re not filming the person in some private place (what actually would be a paparazzi)("true, nobody has the right to film someone against their consent, damn paparazzi's. It's just common courtesy."(Seath) <- that´s WRONG! or can you answer me the question why so many paparazzi have never been judged? there´s a HUGE difference between public and private places!)
One more thing concerning the GIRLS! i don´t wanna say what i´ve heard of some male shredders while watching the girls shredding.... this is just typical MAN! i´m so sorry, but in my oppinion this is the truth:) even if most man here don´t wanna hear this. the arguement that shreditas have been exploited is no argument at all. if a man wants to film a girl´s ass he will be able to do it everywhere. so it ain´t a footbag specific arguement, if you wanna discuss about this do it in general... old "man - women" problem:) girls dress sexy and blame man for reacting on it...
i beg all footbagers who don´t want to be filmed, say: NO FILMING! or buy yourself a shirt with a crossed camera on it!
i respect all footbagers and even all humans, but i will not ask for permisson, but i would stop filming if someone asks friendly!
why aren´t you just happy beeing that WANTED. for everybody it should be an honour beeing filmed! i film those people because i love seeing them and their great styles!

and even if i tought of not putting my video online, because i asked nobody, i´ll do it anyway without asking.
this is MY personal PROTEST!
it´s gonna be 25 minutes will features over 20players and will be fucking free! even if it cost me lots lots lots of hours of working! i think the less of you will appreaciate how much work such a video is and not the love with which all this is done!
be happy that there are people who film you and present the sport for free! (without any egoistic thoughts)
if all in this "community" would think less egoistic than such a discussion wouldn´t be needed!

P.S. did anybody of you ever download a mp3 from the internet? did you ask bmg, sony, defjam, or any artist? those people have a copyright...

Okay, maybe, a couple of people are in a local park shredding. Person A been working a long time time on this awesome set. He not that good at it so he wanted to keep it on the downlow. Along comes this guy, who wants to get some more footbag footage. So, he starts to tape with out asking. He get's the set on tape and it's really cool so he post it in the Video section. Does that sound right to you?
dAb wrote:can you answer me the question why so many paparazzi have never been judged?
Thoese are PICTURES not video. If you want to take a picture of the circle. Go ahead, IMO, you don't HAVE to ask. Still be nice, but you don't have too.
Paparzzi are really aggressive and rude to the subject of the picture. So, if you think evarybody should act like paparzzi that would get annoying fast and ruin the spirt of the game.

Fuck you!

Stop using "I just a man" as a excuse. That's weak.

So, you think that you have a right to zoom into people's ass and tape. How would you like it if a women/man zoomed in on your package then posted it on the internet. That would get a little creepy. Right?

Okay, you learn this when your like 4 but here it goes. You know how you just can't run up to some one and kick him in the spot that hurts. That's called the basic human respect. Following me? This , IMO, exteneds to spiting on them to video taping them without consent

Nobody would ever flim me since I suck. But I understand why some women feel uncomforable geting taped. It's like are they taping my feet to inculed in a video or are they taping my ass to show their buddies when they get home.

I find it funny. People wonder why there isn't more women in the sport. It's because of people like this asshole who says fucked up sexist shit. And people just say "word" after it. It's the same thing as the words "gay" and "fag", but men wouldn't be offend by it, would they? Well, I was.

Duh! Everybody knows about copyrights. That's why you share them ILLEGALY! That's why Naspter not free anymore. That's why labels are sueing people. Thats why there illegal-COPYRIGHTS! Because of copyrights! There big companys who sell there products in the millions. I think that differs from the small shreded who doesn't even sell anything! Your like comparing Tupac to my white girl rap.

Some people just don't get it, I swear.

I agree ..

dAb's post wasn't that bad, EXCEPT for the part about the women.

Just because it happens in other areas of the world, doesn't mean that completely sexualizing women in footbag is right.

I'm also in agreeance that using your sex as a man as an excuse, and saying that just because other guys are like that it's okay, is very weak.

I'm pretty certain girls don't dress sexy because they want to get their ass filmed on tape while they shred. In fact, footbag specific, I'm pretty sure what you are constituting as 'dressing sexy' in footbag is pretty much dressing logically, and dressing the same way men do - short shorts, and a non restrictive top. In fact, a lot of men wear no top at all, does this mean because they are 'dressing sexy'? Do they deserve shabby treatment because of it? I doubt you see it that way. Nice double standard.

What would you suggest, that females shred in turtlenecks and baggy jeans so as to not attract the attention of a pervert with a videocamera? Get real - respect both women and men in footbag. There aren't enough of us for disrespect to exist.

LET`s GO!
First of all i wanna say sorry, if i attacked your person! neither this was my intention, nor i wanted to attack ANY women! I DON`T THINK it´s right to film asses or other unimportent parts of any body! it´s just how i see things are going! i didn´t film ANY ASSES and i won´t do!
Now i´ll try to go through your arguements!
the "secret" thing:
like i tried to make clear, i´m NO PRO and have no aims beeing world champion, what indicates that i don´t have any idea of the motivation some people might have. i PERSONALLY don´t like the idea of having secrets because of some set or tricks. I would say: "train until you´re able to do it clean, then make it public! If you want to be THE FIRST tape it on your own and MAKE IT public"!
This still doesn´t mean, that i wouldn´t stop filming, when the player aks me to do!
Thoese are PICTURES not video. If you want to take a picture of the circle. Go ahead, IMO, you don't HAVE to ask. Still be nice, but you don't have too.
Paparzzi are really aggressive and rude to the subject of the picture. So, if you think evarybody should act like paparzzi that would get annoying fast and ruin the spirt of the game
I didn´t really get this argument. As far as i´ve read this thread the Word "paparazzi" was just used in connection to video, but never in context to photos. It doesn´t matter anyway, i think. The paparazzi´s behavior is the much more important argument.
I don´t think that everybody should behave like a paparazzi and i never wrote something like that! I even have the same oppinion like you!
What i wanted to say was just, that by law you´ll will never be judged if you do pictures, in any form, at a public place.

As i already said, i don´t think it´s okay to film "private body parts"! I think you misunderstood me in several things. maybe i´m not good enough in using the english language, that is no excuse, just an idea! i think native english speaking persons can judge this much better than me.
Stop using "I just a man" as a excuse. That's weak.
I never used this excuse, i just told how most men are in my eyes.
That i said men can film asses everywhere, didn´t mean i think it´s alright! this is also something i just see happening in the world. I think you´re right with the most following stuff you said concerning behavior...
I find it funny. People wonder why there isn't more women in the sport. It's because of people like this asshole who says fucked up sexist shit. And people just say "word" after it. It's the same thing as the words "gay" and "fag", but men wouldn't be offend by it, would they? Well, I was
Maybe i was able to make some misunderstandings clear. If not i´ll be willed to discuss :D
The thing about gay... i don´t care much about that word, but i once saw some interview with eminem, i don´t care about him either, but he said something intelligent, HE said something like: "If i say you´re gay, i mean your behavior like, men acting female. It is no offense against gay people"( this is some cite(as far as i remembred the words right!). Sometimes you need to read in between the lines, it ain´t always the thing at the surface. Anyway this has nothing to do with my previous post! so it´s unimportant for this discussion.

Wow. You need to find yourself a frined thats a girl and get advice. Because you are so lost. You just don't get it and thats scary, dude. That's fucking scary.
Ok i appreaciate, that this expression might be a bit too hard. But this is more or less my point of view, i don´t know which other, more friendly, words i could have used. I ask myself, why girls don´t wear that much clothes. I of course can´t answer this question for all females in the world. But in many many cases girls "dress to impress"! girls sometimes(or often) try to direct eyes to specific body parts, i think even you would say this is true!maybe sad but true...
but like i said we could start a very big discussion about, why girls dress like they dress (this has been discussed sooooo often)... to feel comfortable? to impress other people? to get men? to represent themselfs? many options... maybe we´ll do it in another thread

The copyright thing...
i know that everybody knows about copyrights, that´s why i choose this comparision. maybe it´s not as good as i tought. i´ll try to explan what i mean. i tried to ask at people´s doublemoral! in this thread everybody says that you should ask and bring those "artists"(footbagers) some respect. it´s great to give people respect, i agree 1000% with it, but just ask yourself do you bring everbody that respect that he deserves. I compare the official copyright with the idea of an "trick copyright" or an copyright on photos in general of a person. i ask all of you: do you disrespect the copyright in one case(musicans are great artists), but respect it in another case, where´s no copyright at all.
this doesn´t mean: if someone does harm to you, do harm to him.
it´s just an idea to let people think if there´s a need to be that sensetive with beeing filmed.

OOOf that´s all...
Some personal words at the end. I´ve not been rude! You´ve been! i understand that you get agressiv because of some things which are against your point of view, but stay cool and read carefully, before getting in anger. you should never insult persons directly, that never makes you better than your "opponent". You talk much about basic human respect and stuff like that, but your way of talking/writing/argueing ain´t even slightly respectful!

@ Posi-Cole: I have another point, besides all i´ve written, before reading your post. I didn´t want to relate that "dress sexy" to shreditas, it was ment in general, and the general well known problems concering this.

I hope i made some things clear

In the end, it just comes down to respect. Don't assume that everyone would like you filming them. It honestly does not that much effort to ask someone if they mind you filming them.

Thanks for the stereotype...

Anyways, look, just f*kin ask. It's not that hard to do. It makes sure no one gets pissed off. And it keeps threads like this from nearing the brink of getting out of hand. I'm getting extremely annoyed at how this topic should have been resolved about 7 posts ago. Both sides to the argument have been stated, and apparently by the poll, most people think u should ask.

If someone doesn't want to be filmed, it's their choice and their wish. And as a filmmaker, you should respect it. There are plenty of other shredders out there who don't give a rats ass if they are being filmed or not. GO FILM THEM. People don't have to have or give you a reason for not wanting to be filmed. It's that simple.

I don't know why you people feel the need to keep arguing about this. If for some reason i did not want to be filmed and there was someone standing there with a camera filming me, I would just take my bag and leave. Then I would just pull out my camera and film them 24/7. When I get home, I would put all of their drops in one video and everything else they did that was stupid and post it. Yeah, it's an ass of a thing to do, but so is what they're doing. And hell, for all they know, i might not think it's wrong or disrespectful because they took the risk of playing out in public.

It's all about respecting each other. All I have to say to u non-askers is don't expect any.

8) still agree to dab, and quotet NO....

and it seems, the t-shirts with a crossed camera on it and a slogen like...
please don´t film me shreddin! , are really needed by most players here.

Such an shirt would make this strange problem very eazy to handle,
in this case only the player have to put on this shirt once, so all the video-
maker see he don´t wanna be filmed.
Other way round, this player would be asked every 2minutes whether he
gives his permission to film him, and this is much more fucked up situation, than just be filmed, without beeing threated all the time...

hmm i think soon you´ll see a first version of this shirt, up to then players
should show or say that they don´t wanna be filmed, because its the usual thing to be filmed on public places, and veeeery unusual to ask every person goin around a place youre filming....

Yeah look - I know I've pretty much said this before but I'll repeat myself for effect anyway.

As I see it, there is nothing to stop you or anybody else from filming footbaggers playing in a public space and posting it up on the internet or maybe even selling the footage. I'm not sure about selling the footage but I note that in the case of Paris Hilton and Rick Solomon - where Rick filmed them having sex and then once they broke up released it on the net and is now selling a it as dvd - Paris was unable to legally do anything to stop him and hasn't received any funds for it. Obviously different countries have different laws, but in the US at least if you can film somebody having sex without their permission and then make money out of it without giving them any money while they try and stop you - I'm sure it's legal to film people playing footbag and to sell it without their permission.

Of course what you're doing when you do this is making those people dislike you. If you don't respect their wishes - chances are they're going to think you're an arsehole (asshole for Americans :P) - You may not have a problem with this but considering what a small and spread out community the footbag community is - I suspect that it will cause you more problems than it's worth.

One of the greatest things about footbag in my opinion is that you can travel all around the world (well almost) staying with footbaggers for free and making such strong friendships that I'm sure they'll last for a very long time if not for the rest of your life. By not respecting the people you are filming you are closing off the best part of footbag. Not only because the people who you exploit will feel angry about it - but they will talk to people who will also feel angry about it. Now I think footbaggers are a very forgiving bunch and I think that if you saw the light and started respecting the people you are filming they would forget your actions in the past - but if you keep doing it I believe you'll get snubbed.

In regards to filming girls - footbag in my opinion has a huge problem with the amount of girls playing - especially in North America but to a lesser extent all around the world. Things are slowly getting better but they still have a long way to go. I cannot see girls being encouraged to play more by sexiest behaviour and I think such behaviour will keep the situation how it is.

I have always been a very strong feminist and I think it’s bullshit to blame a girl for the way she dresses when it is someone else who is actually being sexist. You cannot control other peoples actions - only your own - and as pointed about by someone else - all good footbaggers (and lots of up and coming ones too) wear small tight shorts and a tight shirt or no shirt. If it's ok for guys to dress like that without being subjected to sexism, why isn't it ok for girls?

SlickVIC - I don't know if you've ever been to a footbag tournament or spoken to a real life person before. I assume you have at least done the latter.

"Is it ok if I film you - I'm going to make a dvd and sell it" - takes about 5 seconds. If I were filming I'd be prepared to take 5 seconds to say that to each group that I film. I'd even be happy to say it to each person that I film even though many of them would hear me say it the first time. If you look at (for example) - Sick03 - Which is probably the most profession footbag dvd available - it has footage of 39 different footbag players on it. That would have taken less than 4 minutes to ask for permission and it was filmed over a period of a month or two.

It is not asking a lot to ask permission.

jeremy....what i want to say is:

as you said before, in public space you ARE allowed to film everything!
so in my way of thinking logically....it means that if i go playing in a public
space i have to be prepared to get filmed, even without my permission!
IT IS PUBLIC!
so in my eyes it´s not the filmer who´s gonna ask, BUT the player has
to ASK friendly whether the filmer could stop. not the other way around.

I´m sure everyone will stop filming (INCLUDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!) when a player
is asking him to stop.

AND another thing is, that in all your cases and examples you´re imaginating an VIDEO FREAK DEMON, whos respecting noone, whos gonne film your DROPS!?!?! and that NO player on this WORLD want to be filmed.

In my case i NEVER heared of such a problem before i´ve red this article.
Always it was fine to film or not or whatever!
PHOTOGRAPHY(video is motioned Photography) is NOT gonna steal your
Soul or your skill. . This beeing filmed thing is beeing taken TO0 seriuosly in my point of view!!!

therefore i got another idea for an shirt....after we have some now for
all the players who don´t want to be filmed, i thought of the other side.
The filming guys need something too, otherwise it´s not fair ^^

The Idea is simple: " beware DROPARAZZI! "

watch out for theese brand new shirt collection.....
