reverse add hunting
reverse add hunting
I was just thinking, there are a lot of moves I don't hit because I think of them as too easy for their add value - or I'll hit them as a joke but not as a serious move. It's not really a conscious thing though. It's kind of like add hunting but in reverse. Anyway I've decided to try and do a better job of not worrying about adds. What do other people think about reverse add hunting?
When I saw the thread title I thought you were going to define reverse add hunting as trying to hit unusual tricks noticeably hard for their add count. For example, tricks like Mxyzptlk, butterfly reverse swirl or triple around the world. Seems like this would be a creative way to push yourself.

pogo is illmatic. i do some pogo move during pretty much every string now. its not what jeremy was talking about, but its similar. im not really at the point where i think any of the 'easier' 5 adders are easy enough to not be worth doing, but i guess im getting there.

Yeah but are adds that important that you try and hit a move based on its high or low add value? I think you should try and hit stylish moves, not high or low scoring moves. I often think that people look at a hard move with a low add count and say it's stylie because of that. Style has nothing to do with add count. Not many dogs have style.

So it sounds like there is stylie hunting and reverse add hunting which are two different animals. IMO if you got the skills go stylie hunting!
Consider the following reverse add hunting examples:
The Doof [DEL] - Classic reverse add hunting here. Dragon stall in front of the body so you don't get the XBD add! Looks sick! Part stylie, part disgusting!
XBD Neck stall [XBD][DEL]- The back of the neck isn't an unusual surface so 2 adds! Anyone hit this one yet? Reverse add hunting pimpage! We can call it the George Bush stall because you gotta stick your head up your ass just to hit it!

I think that there is a small misunderstanding of the rules pertaining to unusual surface stalls. I believe the misunderstanding comes about because some people are correct in understanding that a forehead or back-of-the-neck stall doesn't get the two ADDs that you'd ordinarily expect for an [UNS] [DEL] trick, but they've got it backward as to why it loses an ADD.
It sounds to me as though most people on this board are saying that if an unusual surface stall is done above the waist, than it does not count as an Unusual Surface. Thats not correct. The right way to express the little quirk of rules that accounts for the missing ADD is that if an unusual surface stall is done above the waist than it does not count as a Delay. A forehead stall, for instance, still scores an ADD in the Unusual category but not in the Delay category. Same for a back-of-the-neck stall or shoulder catch. Unusual is unusual whenever its not toe, inside, outside, and knee. Any intentional contact with any surface (other than the palm of your hand, I suppose) is an unusual surface trick. But stalls only count if you stall the bag with your leg. I like to think of it like this: there isn't really a forhead kick or a back of the neck kick, the most basic forehead or back or shoulder contact is a stall, so in almost any move done with the upper body that I can imagine, the stall is the most basic contact therefore the stall equivalent to a kick (yeah, I can imagine bouncing a footbag repeatedly on your head, like soccer [I mean football, Jeremy :}] players do with soccer balls, but I have yet to see it done with any degree of style when done using a footbag, and it's just one little example of that other subject I've gone on about recently, where stalls make doing tricks easier rather than harder, and in this case the rules actually reflect that a little more accurately, but thats kind of another debate...).
So, one last time in plain language: a neck stall does get an Unusual ADD, but does not get a Delay ADD. The unusual ADD can applie to any surface but the basic ones. The Delay ADD only applies to delays done with the legs and below.
(again, [I just can't help repeating myself sometimes... a touch of OCD I suppose], the legs are the only place that we say you could actually have a basic kick from which a delay instead of a kick represents an Additional Degree of Difficulty that you earn for the delaying element [at least, thats what I suspect is the reason behind this rule].)
(yeah, you've probably all seen this before, but what the hey...)

Guys in all seriousness, the XBD neck delay that I posted was more of a joke. It was just one of those things to point out how the ADD system can't accurately capture the difficultly of certain bizzare tricks. This one is a case where you'd have to have the flexibility of a contortionist to stick your head under your leg and and stall it on your head/neck and only get two adds. I think this confused more people than it amused. You may start laughing now...
