yeah, I completely agree with everything Jane said.
I am really really new at this, but most of the reason that I didn't get as involved sooner (along with the fact that school and everything was hectic) was because girls were not represented very well, and often (it seemed to me) discriminated against in this sport. and I was very repelled by that.
I mean, I did not necessarily want to devote my time to a sport where, if I got good enough, I would only hear "she's really good for a girl". and I have heard that A LOT. even from my boyfriend, who I would say is pretty good with girls playing footbag (teaches a group twice a week, and is really pro footbag for everyone) so I don't know if it is a mentality that has just become accepted here, but saying stuff like that is sexist, and I am sure has made more girls than me reluctant to join the sport.
but that's all I have to say about that for now. just be careful about what you say sometimes, and remember:
when you are the minority, it is really hard to stay involved with something unless you have a community in which you can be specifically that minority (that is what shreditas is good for...amoung other things of course). I am saying that it would be really hard for girls to be footbaggers when they have to face a majority of males in the sport, unless they have a place to improve without worrying about that. so no, the shreditas website is not sexist, just essential to making everyone feel comfortable with the wonderful sport of footbag!! anyways, have a good day. oh, and PS, it's my teddy bear.
